Paramite of War 04-10-2007 02:55 PM

I didn't think it was gory. I thought it was appropriate what they did because its about time someone made it look real. Also they were interpreting a war so it was necessary.

Day After Tomorrow

Great movie. Kinda ridiculous, though. I don't really believe in global warming too much. Still a great ****en' movie though!

Chubfish 04-10-2007 04:21 PM

Now i have just watched all the Matrix triliogy in order again. I like Mr. Smith's speech in the second one after the oracle leaves. I think some of it is:
"It was purpose that created us, purpose that connects us, purpose that pulls us, that guides us, that drives us, that thrives us, that defines us, purpose that binds us. We are here because of you Mr. Anderson. Now we will take from you what you have tried to take from us." Just loved that bit.

I just saw Hot Fuzz. That was the funniest thing I have ever seen. I won't spoil the plot, but let's just say you will NEVER guess the twists.

ziggy 04-11-2007 01:57 PM

I really want to see Hot Fuzz, because Shaun of the Dead was really appealing to me. The trailer also looks really funny. Is it rated R?

Patrick Vykkers 04-11-2007 02:21 PM

R13 in my nation. Dinnae about yours.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest .. third time.

great film

Leto 04-13-2007 01:28 PM

Disney's The Black Hole.

This I have to say: within the 92 minutes of my life I dedicated to this, did anything actual happen? What the **** did anyone ever talk about in this film? Did the robot go down on beardy in the end?

So terribley grand.

Fluid 04-13-2007 02:26 PM

it's disney for christ's sake. what did you expect.

Rex Tirano 04-13-2007 05:36 PM

The Godfather.

F*cking amazing.

Watch it. Now.

Wrong, monkey, wrong.

This was a scifi experiment of Disney's that was released just after or very close to when Stars Wars first came out. It's quite possibley their only shot at credibility, which is hilarious. Some very un-Disney moments in it.

You lose.

disney's scifi... that's even worse

Chubfish 04-14-2007 04:23 AM

I have just watched Mr. Deeds. It was ok for something I had never even heard of and it is a comedy.

ziggy 04-14-2007 11:23 AM

I hate Mr. Deeds. Adam Sandler's movies now seem like they're trying to make him look like a great guy and mr. perfect. I stick with Billy Madison.

snuzi 04-14-2007 11:39 AM

I actually liked Mr. Deeds. Although, you're right. Nowadays his movies all come with where-the-hell-did-that-come-from plots and endings. I mean, take Click for example. It was supposed to be a comedy, but it had the most depressing plot ever. What the hell is with comics trying to become serious actors now?

used:) 04-14-2007 11:46 AM

Just saw Disturbia last night. If I had watched it at home I would have completely hated it, but being in a theater surrounded by laughing, screaming, 21st century American teens made it a blast.

Arxryl 04-14-2007 06:38 PM

Hm... I want to see that movie. Don't know why, but with all the new horror/scare-you-out-of-your-damned-pants movies coming out within the past few months/years I'd like to see it.

And I finally watched Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. It's been for frikken ever since I have seen all of them (I watched them in reverse order, just because I couldn't find two of them for the longest time) and I am still pretty happy with them...

Although in Raiders, I didn't see as much "Booby-trap" actiony cool stuff. Except for the begining... that was pretty neat. Even though the movie is fairly behind in special effects, the ones they did have looked kinda cool still.
Like the part when they open the Ark, and all the spirits and stuff come out and totally kill everyone. I don't know why, but I thought that was kinda cool.

And I have seen numerous children movies over the past few days because of my younger siblings and all I have to say is, "What the hell are they thinking?"
Plost suck, and the only reason people watch them is to see their favorite character form the T.V shows in action.

The whole point of children's movies is to keep them out of your hair for an hour or so. They don't need a plot, only pretty pictures and fast-paced action.

Statikk HDM 04-16-2007 07:56 AM

I have just seen Road to Perdition. Fantastic movie, a bit predictable at the end. B
Raging Bull: Rewatched, one of the greatest performances ever, DeNiro is mindblowing. A all the way.
A Day Without a Mexican: Funny and educational, but didn't care for the slight illegitamacy story line at the end.
"Why is it that rich white men who want to keep minorities out of America are called racist?"

I just saw Hot Fuzz. That was the funniest thing I have ever seen. I won't spoil the plot, but let's just say you will NEVER guess the twists.

I did. ;)

Been away, lets address a few points.

Brazil: it is indeed wonderful and if you haven't seen it and are a fan of anything wonderful I'd urge you to check it out. Though I wasn't entirely enamoured with it first time round, it's a grower of a film.

300: it isn't terrible, it isn't great, it's mediocre. You could almost get swept along with all that macho-guff dialogue and think it to be decent characterisation. Well, I almost did, but that's cos I'm a great lumbering sod.

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang: it's a stunning film! Really wonderful. More people need to see this, but pay attention.

Now, what's been bothering my eyes recently...

Doctor Who: it's the new series and it's ****ing marvellous! So much more confident than before, better effects, better stories. The third episode that was just shown was... a masterpiece of television, I think. Just wonderful. Beautiful, uplifting stuff. Epic and small, all at once, with a fairly unique structure. In an age where 'adult' and 'mature' in drama means relentlessly dark, grim plots with humourless characters watch this stuff. Just excellent and nothing else like it on telly or film. In fact, this week (well, last week) I've seen three wonderful examples of sci-fi (or quasi-sci-fi), including...

Life on Mars: only really got into the second (and final) season and the finale last week was stunning and absolutely keyed into my own person beliefs, which usually makes me like things. Beautiful.

Sunshine: I'm going to be seeing this film again this week, just brilliant. Fantastic direction, amazing visuals, so-so acting (the script never particularly calls for anything more), but... it stays with you, this film. Some sequences are just over-whelming, making you (me) lean forward in your (my) seat. I loved it, just needs a little tweaking to be a genuine proper masterpiece.

Few other things…

La haine: modern-ish French film, very pretty, very good, but tied pretty closely to the actual nature of French society, I felt. And I ain’t French, but I still liked this film very much, where a bunch of people ramble from place to place.

A Clockwork Orange: it’s taken me a while to see this and it was wonderful. Some barmy performances, in a good way. Alex’s doctor/psychiatrist guy was brilliantly weird (“yeeeeess?”), plus you get Fred Elliot before he went bald and moved to Weatherfield. But I was left a bit confused as to what it was actually saying about violence, the state’s ‘treatment’ of it, etc. There seemed to be some contrary stuff in there. Need to watch it again.

The Prestige: Stunning. Everyone go see it now, it doesn’t matter how.

Little Miss Sunshine: stunning, but more so than the film above. Everything is perfect about this film. EVERYTHING.

The Queen: rather wonderful, too. Very small, and theatre-ish, but witty and kinda fascinating all the same.

Un chant d’amour: a silent piece of 50s gay erotica with a bunch of rough looking French blokes. Apparently one of the first times an erect penis is shown on camera. Wow.

It isn’t porn, it’s art, mm’kay?

Dead Ringers: David Cronenberg is one of my most favourite filmmakers of all time, ever, ever and I finally got to see this film a while back and it’s fantastic. Jeremy Irons is amazing, and the story is just gorgeous. And it was the Cronenberg film made during the year of my birth, which makes it’s seem even more special, somehow.

Yeah, that’ll do for now, these were the first things to come to mind. :)

moxco 04-16-2007 12:18 PM

...Click. It was funny.

E'l Scrabino 04-18-2007 10:18 PM

I just saw disturbia ^.^

Really good movie :D

snuzi 05-05-2007 09:01 PM

I just watched X-Men: The Last Stand. It was very good in my opinion. It's a shame it was the last of the X-Men films.

OddjobAbe 05-05-2007 09:05 PM

I just watched the finale of Magnum P.I, and I'm still trying to fathom out if Higgins admitted that was lying about Robin Masters or being Robin Masters.

True that, but, *Possible Spoilers*

if you watch the ending closesly (the chess pieces) and, if you saw it on DVD and watched the post-credits Easter Egg, You can see that it might not be such a final ending after all. if they ever want to revisit the films they can easily. Plus XMen3 was only released last year, so it's not like it'd be so much later it no longer feels right.

Nate 05-06-2007 05:39 PM

Last I heard they were working on a Wolverine prequel and maybe a sequel with the younger characters. It's going to be more or less impossible to get all those big stars together again for a film.

Mutual Friend 05-21-2007 09:57 AM

I've worked my way through 'The Sopranos' at an incredible lick, very addictive. It's probably the most strictly perfect piece of television drama I've ever seen. Should seriously be seen by everybody, regardless of the extortionate prices HBO charge for their DVDs (though they're come down to a fairly reasonable price here.)

Amarcord and 8 1/2: my first ever Fellini films and they were fantastic. Wasn't so keen on the second which seemed slightly dry, but I think that was mainly my mood as I was watching it. Especially considering it's supposed to be one the best films ever made. :)

28 Weeks Later: I adored the first film, and this was also wonderful. Not as wonderful, but still wonderful. Great story, looked beautiful, and the opener is stunning, along with the sequence where soldiers are picking off the people. Just a pity it didn't actually have anything to say like the first one did, but oh well. I was expecting them to make some comment about American Imperialism, but no.

OddjobAbe 05-21-2007 10:08 AM

I dared to see 'Saw'.
Some of you may realize that I'm referring to the slogan, Dare You See Saw?.
It was good, but I don't really understand it.

I also re - watched Reservoir Dogs. Quite good, but not the best ever film.

Mutual Friend 05-21-2007 10:10 AM

I LOVED that slogan! I chuckled about that in some car park for far longer than was acceptable.

OddjobAbe 05-21-2007 10:14 AM

Whenever I read it, I read it as, Dare You Seesaw?!

Mutual Friend 05-21-2007 10:16 AM

...I think that was the intended joke, Jeremy. :)

OddjobAbe 05-21-2007 10:19 AM

Oh. Please excuse my blindness.

Oh, I read a review that implied the entire film was about the American's gung-ho attitude to fixing Iraq.

Patrick Vykkers 05-21-2007 04:00 PM

American Imperialism is a myth.

After the 80's.

Nope, not a thing. Which I think is a shame cos the film would have been SO bolstered by some philosophical or political meat. In a cool way.

Arxryl 05-22-2007 01:43 PM

I watched "Happily Never After" and it was pretty good. Very predictable, but good for a watch.

Ooh, all the reviews I read said it was shocking. You know it's made by the same people as Citizen Siege?

Arxryl 05-22-2007 04:35 PM

Really?... well... that's interesting. Still very predictable tho'. Don't know if sarcasm was placed in that post but...

Majic 05-22-2007 07:12 PM

Though I watched Terminator 2 a multitude of times during my childhood (as did any other reasonable, God-fearing kid), I only just yesterday saw The Terminator. A most excellent film, if I do say so myself. There's enough badassery packed between Michael Bienh and Ahnuld to more than make up for the blatantly dated 80's soundtrack.

I also watched Judge Dredd for the first time about a week ago. Fun stuff. Action/sci-fi movies were so much cooler when every other scene wasn't cgi.

Nate 05-22-2007 07:23 PM

I was at a friend's place last week and watched Johnny Mnemonic (I got outvoted). It was as truly horrible as I suspected it would be.

They made up for it by following it with Thankyou For Smoking, which was nothing like I expected but wonderful nonetheless.
