Game looks good.

Steef looks okay, though his face is a little...crowded.

I love the hickens. I'm guessing they'll play the same sort of role as the hillbillies in 'Deliverance'..Minus the sodomy.

the one quote out of every post that stood out the most [poetry in motion, people.] was:

"And since bounty hunting is atleast illegal in our world"

Bounty hunting is not illegal. My grandfather is a bounty hunter, as is my girlfriend's father. The only time it's illegal is if you're working for someone other than the government.

Thanks I never knew that. Although, maybe I didnt want to know that...

"How do they Bounty hunt? Do they use guns? How much do they get paid?"

I talked to my grandpa today, and he told me they're now called 'bail officers'.

The pay is mediocre, but my grandpa [and nick, my girlfriend's father] assure me that the excitment makes up for the lack of money.

They carry guns, as well as a variety of 'stun' type weapons [pepper spray, stun gun, you get it], though the actual pistol is only to be used in cases where they are being attacked.

The way a bounty is set up is basically a price on someone's head for dodging jail/prison time, breaking out, or having several outstanding warrants. Then, a team of 'bail officers' is dispatched to find the person, arrest them, and turn them in to the authorites. There's never a 'dead or alive' bounty like you see in the media.

Nick also told me that in addition to being paid the price on the person's head, you have an average salary. So going after bigger criminals brings you a bigger check, but also a bigger risk of injury.

My grandpa has been shot at numerous times, but only shot once.

for a 60 year old man, the guy can hustle.

Bounty Hunting: shoot for cash
Zap: more than a drink, it's a threat
i donno....both are useful

MrBoj 07-02-2003 01:22 PM

ok, after finally seeing the concept sketches of the game my disappointment has metamorphosed into anticipation. I like the style of Steef. The places and boats seem to have an Asian mixed with Scandinavian influence. Quite odd! Steef himself looks great.....those conceptual designs are bitchin.

As for Steef's place in the story, why wouldn't he be part of the Quintology? He could have his own story and meet up with MUnch and Abe later to battle the undustrialists, as others have suggested. Who is to say whether there should be 5 heroes in the quintology. Who knows anything, it's all speculation. OWI have a lot to work with here........I mean, they dont habve time for a movie, as has been suggested in another thread. Jsut look at what they are doing in games alone.

oh, and that map of Mudos.....I had no idea that was in existence.......that's just what I have been wanting for years!

Scrubs 07-02-2003 01:38 PM

Because we've been told its not part of the quintology, its concurrent. That doesn't mean that they could meet up after the quintology has finished! exciting aint it

Al the Vykker 07-02-2003 09:15 PM

OWI has made it clear they will eventually make oddworld feature films. Lorne Lanning also explains that these films will touch basis on things, problems, characters, enemies, creatures, etc. that the games only scratched the surface of. Also the atmosphere of the films will be much darker than the games, closer resembalance I would think to AO.

Also there is always the fact that quint means FIVE!

well we knew there was gonna be five story games, he probly tacked extra games like AE and Steef to last OW longer

Xavier 07-04-2003 04:15 PM

OWI won't stop after the quintology, so there is no reason for them to use Steef to make it last longer...
:fuzconf:

OANST 07-04-2003 04:17 PM

I think you misunderstood what I meant. Mr. boj asked why there would only be five heros in the quintology.

paramiteabe 07-06-2003 05:18 PM

I think Steef will not meet Abe and Munch for awhile because one he looks like he would be an industrial that has become an outcast to society in the way he was being hunted. I believe his game will be based on him getting hunted by that other thing. Like at one time he was a respected hunter but then pissed everyone off and became the hunted. So Steef's Oddessy will be him basically tryng to avoid being hunted in this case. And then eventually running into Abe and Munch in another game.

Xavier 07-06-2003 05:28 PM

the game won't be called Steef's oddysee...
it isn't a quintology game, and I'm pretty sure only the quintology games (first of each hero) are called "oddysees"

Wil 07-06-2003 05:33 PM

EDIT: Watch how the mighty Encyclopedia is brought crashing to his knees. :fuzemb: :p

There are two hunters chasing our new hero, one is a sort of whale/rhino/shark thing (the one that jumps on the log, I think) and the other is the turtle/Glukkon guy.

Sekto Springs 07-06-2003 05:38 PM

um actually i think you misunderstood the pictures max, they're both the same guy look....
http://www.inhousemedia.net/mf/dc1.gif
http://www.inhousemedia.net/mf/dc4.gif

the physique and face are the same as that of the guy on the log

Jacob 07-06-2003 05:41 PM

Why does Steef have to team up with Abe or Munch?? Can't he just be a bad guy? Or die at the end?

Xavier 07-06-2003 05:44 PM

true Jacob, very true

anyway, sligslinger I think you are kinda right, check attach

Wil 07-06-2003 05:45 PM

The turtle guy's eyes face forwards, the shark guy's eyes are on the side of his head. The upper lip is different. The shark guy has nostrils at the tip of his head, the turtle guy doesn't. They are most definitely different creatures. They have the same hat, but then so does Steef - indicating they may be 'employed' by the same people.

Sekto Springs 07-06-2003 05:46 PM

no max that little white dot you see is a gap through his hat, and he does have eyes, beedy ones they're not nostrils, if you look real carefully you can see the pupils if you saw the actual show you would think otherwise, because it was shown all in sequence it was the same guy

Xavier 07-06-2003 05:49 PM

sorry max but I'm wit sligslinger on this one... it is the same guy
look at the pictures

Wil 07-06-2003 05:52 PM

Hmm, I kind of see what you mean, now that you've shown me the eyes. I still think the lips are different, though. I'm not sure. You're probably right.

Silly hole in hat.

EDIT: Stop editing and adding posts when I'm typing. It's very annoying and it makes me look silly. :crying:

EDIT II: Everybody keeps having to correct me on all this Steef stuff. Hmph.

Sekto Springs 07-06-2003 05:57 PM

im sorry :crying:

oddguy 07-07-2003 01:28 AM

Don't worry. I get corrected too! :crying: Lets all cry together!

Sal the Mudokon 07-07-2003 12:09 PM

Wow... It's terrible that I haven't been able to post since I saw the show on Discovery but... WOW. The "Hickens"(btw: who came up with that? good name!) looked like crap at first, but after covering my friends background with the image of the two arguing, I came to notice the interesting barrel-design architecture and the evolutionary similarities between them and mudokons... in fact, if you slide the facial ridges around the eyes together and by spreading the eyes, take away the feathers, and evolve the beak into a mouth... why, YOU GOT A MUD!

Steef looks GREAT! Oddworld HAS TO BE the only game producers that can SHOCK people by making a big, over-strengthed bad-ass character it's new focus. Everything about this new game looks fantastic. ...Slig armies (complete with marching snoozies) covering a hillside... a WESTERN character (shocker!)... at least 5 new creature types... and OUT-THERE environments! Oh, I'm salivating on the keyboard again... sorry.

Has anyone spoken about the giant wart hogs or the dancing desert salamander people yet? They were interesting... not to meantion the overweight karate... thing. If you have seen his
"moves" then you're missing out.

Well, that's my opinion STEEF...
Stay Odd!

Xavier 07-07-2003 12:26 PM

true... the "hickens" (temporary name created by Max until we get an official one) DO have some similarities with the Mudokons...

and since they do both have bird ancestors there may be an evolution connection

Wil 07-07-2003 12:42 PM

Thanks for the credit, but I didn't create that name. I just think it's fitting.

I can't see the Snoozers in the video. I keep looking closely. Are they in the one where the Sligs come right at the camera or the one where the camera is overhead? It seems strange that the Magog Cartel have started using Vykkers nursemaid technology in invasions. Maybe they replaced the narcotics with proper weapons. I'll have another look.

The dancing desert salamanders that you speak of have indeed been talked about - but not in a good way. As far as I can tell, Khanz is the only dude to have said he likes them, although I might be wrong. I hadn't associated the giant blue Slog with a warthog, but that makes sense.

New species:
Steef
Hickens
Hunter
Salamanders
Blob
Warthog
Skunk
Orcs (can't say I've noticed these, either)

*counts* Eight, hey? There were 14 new creatures in AO, 3 in AE, 9 in MO, 8 so far in OW4. I suppose there are nine if the boat turns out to be a living creature, but that might just be EGM being plonkers.

Xavier 07-07-2003 12:52 PM

Orcs? wich creature do you call orc?

anyway is this the creature you call blob?
http://www6.plala.or.jp/atusiya/steef/steef8.jpg

Wil 07-07-2003 01:33 PM

Orcs are supposedly creatures featured in the FPS part of the X-Factor video. There's a green something that Steef shoots at, but I can't make it out. There are production images of an ogre-looking thing just after the salamander production art in the first part of the video. I don't know what that mummy thing is.

And by blob I mean what Sal says: the overweight karate thing that has a sort of toad face, with strands of hair coming out of the back of it. It's doing some weird slow movements. Hopefully I've attached an image.

I still can't see the Snoozies, but once I get the video from Oddsville I'll be able to see the whole thing in great detail, hopefully.

Xavier 07-07-2003 01:39 PM

oh yeah. I forgot about this one (I can't see the video right now, my best PC is down and I'm working on an old one right now)

I didn't noticed any snoozers in the Sligs Attack part :fuzconf:

Al the Vykker 07-07-2003 03:58 PM

The snoozers are there, but you can just make them out. If you were watching the online version than you probably could not see them very clear. And I agree with max I hope they have attached actual weapons and not narcotics.

Disgruntled Intern 07-07-2003 06:20 PM

I also like the salamaders. The bulbous eyes give them sort of unreadable expressions, which I don't like. Hopefully OWI will give their faces more detail.

Assuming they'll be in the game, that is.
