lucky guy. He could use it for major cosplay! Every 'flaw' has it's perks!

What's an Oddworld
Ah, y'know what, this actually looks decent. I'm sure the results will be very interesting. |
So, here's what I think: y'all should CALM THE FUCK DOWN. This is a press release. A press release that is specifically responding to the criticisms of the previous game. A very vaguely worded press release that is filling all of your heads with ideas of what the game is going to be like. It doesn't actually say that Abe is leading all 300 muds across the desert, although that's what many of you have assumed. It doesn't say that it's a new game set in between AO and AE, but there's many people suggesting that too.
Here's what I interpretted the press release to mean: It's going to be AE but slightly less cartoony. Nothing more, nothing less. All of you are just asking to be disappointed when the game comes out and it's not the wonderous fantabulousness you're imagining. Jeez, do Oddworld fans never fucking learn? :
|
Why do you feel your interpretation is any likelier to be accurate? With quotes about them planning to "re-tell the fable from a very different angle" and adding "some great surprises in store this time around we don’t think anybody’s going to predict", I'd argue it would be more reasonable to expect a reboot of Exoddus instead of a remake. A second draft of Exoddus' story.
|
Just heard the good news! I literally screamed! This is crazy, I'm so happy Oddworld is going back to the gritty that the first game had. This should be great!
|
You literally screamed, did you?
Also Nate, it actually kind of does say he's leading 300 Muds across the desert. |
I actually did. Not super loud, but I did.
So Soulstorm is technically going to be like a prologue to Abes Exoddus? I remember in the intro for AE, they are walking across the desert and whatnot.. |
I'm guessing you didn't read either the actual press release or Nate's post.
|
You all got it wrong. I'll gladly explain it to you.
:
Mouths are Oddworld Fans and Abe's Lorne Lanning |
I did but I haven't slept in 21 hours, so it all kinda breezed by my head, hah.
But no I didn't look at Nate's post. |

Computer Graphics cutscenes returning? When exactly did they go away, may I ask?
|
Fine... pre-rendered CG cutscenes. You know perfectly well what I mean.
|
Not really. NnT has pre-rendered CG cutscenes. What *do* you mean?
|
He means hi res, hi quality pre-rendered cutscenes that uses hi res models and are not rendered by the game engine itself. You know, like every major Oddworld game except NnT.
|
NnT has 'pre-rendered' cutscenes inside the Unity engine. That's hardly CG, that's creating a scene in your game engine and recording it. And while it may look okay, it doesn't hold a candle to the pre-rendered cutscenes in the old games that were made by dedicated 3D animation teams.
Seriously if you still don't get what I mean I'm not even gonna bother explaining. |
How exactly is that "hardly CG"?
|
Nep, I know where your going with this. CG stands for "Computer Graphics" and thus anything showed in NnT is CG. My question to you is, how relevant is it to have this debate?
|
Ugh, people getting hung up on semantics. Please never change, OWF.
Fine, the return of CGI cutscenes. How's that? |
I think Lorne is going to change how you pronounce Abe's name to Ah-bae, like the Japanese prime minister. Y'know, to keep the game modern and relevant.
|
I hope he replaces Glukkons with modern dicktators.
You know, to give a stronger, clearer message. |
:
A really big part of why the new Halo games look so ugly is because they decided to make all the aliens look “realistic” (squat, covered in detailed teeth/spines/scales) and it brought down the entire aesthetic. If that happens to Oddworld it’d be awful. :
|
I think it'd be cool if they could render scrabs and paramites how they are in the concept art, with more detail placed upon things like their inherent muscular builds. Scrabs always looked sinewy, strong and regal in the art book.
|
I'm really glad that it looks as though the team have taken feedback on board and aren't simply doing another 'New 'n' Tasty' type straight remake of Exoddus.
I hope they're 'rectifying' the mistakes of Exoddus, in that it was essentially just a rushed re-hash, and they're now taking enough time to tell the story 'properly' as they initially would've wanted. If that means an Exoddus remake essentially split across 2 games, then fantastic. |
Thats what i mean. Paramites looked shit in NnT. They weren't detailed at all
|
:
Sure the low detail showed in the cutscenes also (with the one cutscene of a paramite), along with the low detail Sligs, etc, but eh |
Nate is a true Oddworld fan. A shame he isn't the one interviewing Lanning (because he could ask him relevant questions).

Who would've thought I'd ever look forward to seeing a picture of hands |
Same here. :D
Can someone please save the html code of the teaser page? I'd like to put it on the Odd wide web but I'm at work and have no access to the page. I'll try to do it when coming home later today but I rather play this safe. |
