So my friend and I were playing for a bit on his Minecraft server.

I gave myself some mob spawners. Mob spawners, for some reason, only spawn pigs when they're placed by players.

My friend saw this as a great thing for his barn. Little did we know, the pigs spawned by mob spawners are incapable of dying. Whether this is a glitch or just how it's programmed is beyond me.

Long story short, his farmland is now over run by thousands and thousands of pigs.

Thousands upon thousands of immortal pigs.

It certainly didn't used to be the case. I created a pig farm using this method some time ago and it worked just fine.

So I started a new world today and I made a bed and when I slept it woke me up little after it was still night and a freaking zombie was staring at me and I fucking shat my pants and took the sword out to kill 'im, but the question is, is this normal? Is it like an 'event' that can happen, because I only had one window and it wasn't even big enough for a zombie to get there.

I recreated this event and put it on Youtube. Don't know why though... Anyways, here's pretty much my first night:

EDIT: And yes, I now know that I need to put the bed in a spot that isn't next to a wall, lesson learnt.

DarkHoodness 03-12-2011 10:26 AM

lol

Hmm, this never happens to me when I dig a hole. Make sure it's a deep (at least 4 squares) hole though - If the bed is too close to a block above it, you'll get your head stuck in it and die of suffocation.

Dynamithix 03-12-2011 10:27 AM

I am aware of that too, yes.

I like how after you killed the zombie you just sort of looked at the bed and thought "let's not try that again".

Dynamithix 03-12-2011 12:58 PM

My plan was to add a stupid annotation saying something similar to that, haha.

Mr. Bungle 03-12-2011 01:50 PM

Ah, I want to try this game so badly. Is there any kind of free trial or anything of the full version?

Dynamithix 03-12-2011 01:54 PM

Probably not, I actually just bought the Beta a while ago, I was playing an old version of alpha that available to download during a weekend when the servers crashed. For some reason, for me, it stayed as an Alpha ver. with no updates.

So... no, there isn't.

Phylum 03-12-2011 03:21 PM

Dick about building stuff in creative mode, which is free, if you want an idea of the feel of the game without the really fun stuff.

Dynamithix 03-13-2011 04:35 AM

I've been working on a hotel in Minecraft for the last 2 days. I even named it 'Skylite Hotel'.

I was almost finished on it, it had 4 floors (+ a basement.) that were all almost finished and it even had some semi-rare materials there and I was so happy that it was almost finished.

Well, I'm not so happy anymore since I was an idiot and thought I could make a simple fireplace in the basement. A fireplace. And wood. No good.

The aftermath:

If you know someone who has the full version, all they have to do is install the most recent release on your PC, sign in once, then when you want to play, just hit login (without a username/password) you'll get a 'login failed' screen with the option to play offline. Do so. Works for me, and I've been playing for upwards of a month.

It's fine to have your bed next to a wall if it isn't near any mobs. All of my beds are next to walls, but I know for a fact that there aren't any NPCs anywhere near them.

Dynamithix 03-13-2011 11:06 AM

Actually, people say it's a known bug that if you put your bed next to a wall, whether there are or aren't enemies near you, a zombie or a skeleton will appear. Unless it's on peaceful.

dripik 03-13-2011 11:27 AM

I've seen this bug myself, yeah. Not exactly pleasant. Also, you can also find yourself outside the wall of your shelter if the bed is right next to it and you leave the bed.

Good job there wasn't a forest nearby.

Here's the damage down by the accidental smack of a TNT block. I was committed to cover a large portion of the map*.

*Within reason of course.

Manco 03-14-2011 12:09 PM

Not mine, but holy shit this is fantastic:

DarkHoodness 03-14-2011 02:04 PM

I found that a while ago, it was impressive. :)

This guy must've been bored to find this to be that funny:

Creepers make people have funny responses (0:20):

How to make a massive, massive hole in the ground (this guy rambles a bit, skip to about 1:20ish):

DarkHoodness 03-15-2011 02:32 PM

Fortress work in progress:

Ridg3 03-16-2011 04:00 AM

Do you mine all the material you need or do you still use INVedit?

Also, does anyone know if there's a cartographer built suitable for the updated beta?

DarkHoodness 03-16-2011 04:43 AM

All the material for what I've built so far has been gathered - It'd be rather pointless otherwise, IMO. The only "cheat" I've used is sticking it on "Peaceful" to regain my health, then putting it back to "Normal" immediately afterwards, when down dungeons where I can't find food. The minecart rail system at the beginning of the vid isn't complete yet 'cause I don't have enough iron. :P

This is the quarry where the majority of the stone came from to build my first castle, compared to it when seen briefly in my first minecraft vid (yes, same map):
http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1300279079
http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1300279219

For my second castle I've mined the stone from a really, really long tunnel a few blocks down into the hillside underneath it. It's what all the furnaces briefly seen in the basement are for.

As for cartographers that are compatible with the new maps, you may find this list on the Wiki useful - I had a look at it earlier but haven't tried anything yet: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Programs_and_editors

Dooooo want.

Wil 03-18-2011 08:01 AM

AWWWWWWWW :D

DarkHoodness 03-18-2011 09:38 AM

Notch said something about having a pet dog in Minecraft - Now I can see how this would actually work.

Manco 03-18-2011 09:59 AM

According to the video description, that's going to be an official update.

Yesssss

Ridg3 03-18-2011 10:42 AM

Max, why does Oddworld Administrator appear seven times underneath your name?

Dynamithix 03-18-2011 10:58 AM

Those wolfies are cute!

dripik 03-18-2011 02:06 PM

I'd be pleased if those dogs would bark whenever there's a Creeper sneaking up on me.
