Wow, you're getting better and better at this! This image looks so true-to-source. I love his pants especially, and his mask. His chest appears a bit flat and I think his fingers need to be slimmer. But it's great; you really feel for him! :p

I guess this would be from back when he was still a scout? It's cool. I like it. Hope it gets finished, but you have a rather valid reason for not having time (unlike myself).

Actually I recently got into TD again, just the other day I was really in the mood for it. I started rereading it from the beginning (there are bits of part one, especially the prologue, that make me cringe at how bad it is).
Actually I started reading the Rupture Farms chapters, but then I decided to go back and read the bit in Dion and Stivik's part where Stivik remembers a misadventure where one of his pack got hurt. And that made me want to read the beginning, so I've decided to read it all the way through. I might get round to installing AE on my laptop soon, and have a go at that, too. Might restore my interest in Oddworld.

If I do get back into it, and I'd really like to, I'll probably delete all the chapters of the latest 'part' and start that bit afresh; I really don't like them, and if I was really in the mood for writing I know I could do better.

You've complained about me over-analysing my own writing before, but in part one... There was an atmosphere of... well, sligs in the wild, industrials out of industrialism... brotherhood and survival... something I wish I'd spent more time working to capture when I was writing part one, but there are so few really significant moments for Stivik in that time, apart from Stack's death and Tilic's betrayal, which was why only they got written in any detail. It's why I grabbed the opportunity to mention one of his jobs later on when he was watching over Dionysia. I wish he was open enough to discuss them more with her, so we could have heard of more :p But then he wouldn't be who he is.

Thanks for this art. I still want to tell the stories of these four, so I hope I get the chance. I could tell you right now some major events in Stivik's life after he leaves Rupture Farms, but... well, I'd rather tell the story as it should be told. Hopefully I'll get into it again soon, and work out how things should go.

It's hard working out how the Arnie of the story would react to the rebellious Dionysia, and there's a slig, Gappiqu, who I had trouble forming a personality for (his player was rather nooby at first, but he's so important to the story). But I think I'm getting there on both issues. The other thing is the short time Stivik and Dionysia have in Rupture Farms. How short can I make it, and yet keep it relevant (needs to be longer than just a day), and how will they react in that time?

you're right about the atmosphere in part one... it was and still is very inspiring, if it wouldn't be for that first part of TD i guess i would've never become such a huge fan of Sligs xD

it might not be as well written as the latest chapters but despite everything i like them the most ^__^

weird question: if Stivik has a really bad day and Dion is in a temporary coma and it's his fault ... would he start to talk to her / or blame her while she sleeps or isn't he that kind of character? -Stivik is not easy to see through while it has been always very easy to see through Dion xD ...this btw, is no critique, it's fascinating:fuzcool:



i would give them a week or even a little more... a week seems long but it seems short aswell depending on what happens... a single day is too short xD

btw: ...I'm sure Arnie has more than enough sectrets that could ruin his reputation if they end up in the wrong persons hands - things that could make him go to prison...
you could create a situation in which Arnie Dion and Stivik are in a pinch, because each has hold of secret informations about the other 2, and if they do a wrong move the other one will sell them out,
maybe someone else comes to rupture farms and the situation gets even worse because noone knows on which side that one is... never mind i watched too much Code Geass and Death Note xD xD

btw: the time of the story and the time in which you read it can be very different... moments can be stretched out endlessly... or be very short.. what is it called in english? I can't find it anywhere xD )

Well... if it had happened before he betrayed her to the Cartel... If Stivik's gotten angry enough to knock her unconscious, he'd feel bad about it. He'd panic a bit and be angry at himself that he'd lost control, but he wouldn't confront it; he'd run off and leave her, maybe make sure she was safe first if it was really bad. After that he'd avoid her until she approached him.
He wouldn't apologise; she'd be the one who'd come and make it up with him. She's good at forgiving people who hurt her and show no remorse. She'd wonder if it was her fault that he'd hit her, though she wouldn't confront that feeling.

If it happened at Rupture Farms now, well... deep down inside he'd feel bad, but on the surface he'd probably gloat about it, and then go away and hope to pretend it had never happened, with himself and with the other sligs; he wouldn't brag about it a second time. Again, he'd avoid meeting or talking to her unless she came to him, but then he wouldn't have forgiven himself for all he's done to her, so he'd get angry immediately. If this happened not at Rupture Farms but somewhere she might be in danger from other sligs, he wouldn't hide her or do anything to protect her while she was unconscious. She makes him feel guilty, and he can't confront that guilt, because he really, really wants to believe that the things he's done are right, that he's right to serve the Cartel. If he was wrong to betray her to the Cartel than he was wrong to betray Tilic, and if he was wrong to betray Tilic, his brother... He'd cope with it worse than if Anni thought she'd killed Kix or Nova. I don't know for certain but it could potentially drive him to suicide if he was faced with knowing he'd been wrong to betray Tilic.
Dionysia would be slower to forgive Stivik for hurting her than she would have been before he betrayed her, but eventually she would, very cautiously, approach him. They'd probably end up having a very loud, very hateful argument, and while he'd be fighting to avoid hitting her again, she'd take him by surprise and smack him. Then she'd run off and hate herself for hurting him.
After he betrayed her as Bescher's factory (was it Bescher?), she told him she hated him; this was as far from the truth as conceivably possible.


I don't think we have a word for it in English. Like, I believe you have a word that translates directly as 'ear-worm' (I think), which means a song that's stuck in your head. I love the phrase 'ear-worm', and am rather chagrined that we have no version of it, and would just say 'a song that's stuck in my head'.


Could be interesting, but I fear Arnie's a bit too sceptical of these accusations against Stivik, and Stivik's already told the Cartel his secrets. Plus if Arnie found out Dionysia's secret, it'd shake things up too much. So Arnie's is already known, and he wouldn't find out Stivik's or Dionysia's. But they know each other's, and they both know that. If that made sense.



With your picture... I like the idea that he might really be sat at a table in a factory, and he's imagining the tree and sky. I guess if you made Stivik and the table quite dark, and realistic, and the tree and the surroundings much brighter and more impressionistic... I dunno, I can't confess to knowing much about art :p

That Slig animation is quite cool, nicely done, Sci. Rather noir-ish.

If it's any comfort, Hungarian has no equivalent either, or at least I don't think there is.
