I never played SW but I think it's good game. Atmosfere (spelling, correct me if I'm wrong) is great, also enviroments, but those chickens are so... so...

...so...

used:) 07-03-2006 10:57 AM

I like the Clakkerz.

Xavier 07-03-2006 12:07 PM

if you do this once more you get a warning

Mudoko_Jedi 07-03-2006 10:54 PM

yes that beaver thing is annoying, and X box kicks youre stinkey but lord vulchor.

For those who think Oddworld is only about Sligs, Mudokons, and Glukkons, well, that's just wrong. I bet the idea would be worn out by the time it's the fourth Oddworld movie, if you just used only around the same 10 characters.

But it's little good creating new characters if they're nothing compared to the original cast. Clakkers do not share the ingenious design and characterisation as past Oddworld characters. While they are arguably funny and fill an important rôle dispensing information, they do clash with existing Oddworld designs.

Atmosfere (spelling, correct me if I'm wrong)

Atmosphere. :)

And don't turn this into another console war.

Dusan 07-04-2006 06:48 AM

Can someone translate me (on simple english) MTM's post?

Wil 07-04-2006 12:41 PM

Yeah, alright.

Mudokons, Glukkons, Sligs, Scrabs, Vykkers et al look cool. They look like they belong on Oddworld.

Clakkers look like fat chickens.

Dusan 07-04-2006 12:53 PM

Thanks. Isn't that better and shorter way to say what do you think?
Also one bad thing about SW. New yoLk. That is so uncreative way to name the city in a game. Maybe OWI is losing inspiration...

...and those fat and ugly chartoon chickens are proving that.

Bullet Magnet 07-04-2006 01:14 PM

The idea was to base them on animals that lead meaningless, banal lives, hence the chickens. But hey- you see "normal" birds and fish in the games, and I would think that the appearance of an actual Clakker would make rather more than local news. And they only appear to be chicken like. The concept art shows feathery, beaky things.

I agree with that. I thought the Clakkerz were a great way to strengthen the red neck esque setting that SW took place in. If you've ever fully observed a chicken's life in a pen, you can see where they drew their inspiration to use them.

If you're referring to the Flightless Birds, those were designed for Fangus.

Leto 07-04-2006 07:42 PM

Judging a console on the games it has is like judging an instrument for what songs it plays.

Stranger redeemed the series after MO. If people can't get over their 'THOSE CHICKENS LOOK SLIGHTLY TOO REAL' bias, I guess they just don't deserve to play it.

Al the Vykker 07-04-2006 09:29 PM

......And nearly all of them stolen from PS2.

Actually out of those titles he listed only Gun might have been taken from PS2. Splinter Cell originated from Xbox and the PS2 port wasnt too great, Halo was taken from PC but seeing how Xbox and 360 are almost a PC I'd say it doesnt count. =P Oddworld indeed was stolen, but Ninja Gaiden was an entirely new designed game from the same team of DOA, and they had been known to be multiplatform. Not trying to beat ya up here though. :)

They arent losing inspiration, Its just their way at renaming , just look at all the other creatures names.
And New Yolk kinda gives it a big feel to it bechause you know New York is an big city.

I would say that this is the way oddworld names things and I like it

Mudoko_Jedi 07-04-2006 11:24 PM

New yolk city wasnt big enough and had little to do in it there should be more things in it that you can access like people that give you info on outlaws.

PS who prefered the Stranger part over the Steef part I shaw did.

Patrick Vykkers 07-05-2006 03:00 AM

What "THOSE CHICKENS LOOK SLIGHTLY TOO REAL" bias?

Wil 07-05-2006 03:18 AM

:

What "THOSE CHICKENS LOOK SLIGHTLY TOO REAL" bias?

There is no such bias. Some fans hate the look of Clakkers, Grubbs and Live Ammo, and are quite happy to be vocal about it. Other fans perceive this to be an attack on SW itself, but I know of no such fan who is so shallow. It's a long-standing misunderstanding that has earned a lot of people a lot of flak, and I'm upset it still exists.

:

Thanks. Isn't that better and shorter way to say what do you think?

Not really. It lacks the subtlety and nuances of how I actually feel. I simplified it merely to aid your comprehension.

The same is true for any animal trapped in a pen. Chickens and pigs are damn cool if you let them be free.

:

I find it hard to believe that people can't discern the difference in inspiration between a Clakker and, say, a Scrab. Scrabs have a definite crustaceous feel to them, and a behaviour remeniscent of large predator mammals, but you couldn't look at it and say “It's just a damn crab,” or “It's a lion. What's to be impressed by?” Clakkers are fat anthropomorphic chickens with exaggerated hick attitudes. It doesn't matter how many feathery lumps you stick on them, they're still just redesigned poultry.

Ehh, chickens have a pretty distinct way of life that's not like other fenced animals. It's all right in front of you in the game, the hens sit on their rocking chairs as if they would sit on a nest; they are all cowards by nature; they move around between buildings as if they were foraging; and they all have whiny attitudes. Even their towns resemble chicken pens.

madder128 07-05-2006 08:41 AM

although the clakkers were quite annoying, and i dreamt of filling their full of zappflys (in reality) i always thought they were pretty cool charecters.
their designed well and are very original and annoying. This makes them stand out and give them there own personality.
I believe every oddworld charecter are as good as each other and should all be different from one another.

I wonder what the first oddworld movie will be............... it seems perfect for them to start from the chapter one and do abe's oddysee but i have a hunch they might do the opposite and do the brutal ballad of fangus klot. But it also wouldnt suprise me if oddworld arent doing movies at all but are doing an animated tv series.
Either way i don't really care as long as their good and its new oddworld content.
I also think we will be seeing oddworld games again but as movie tie inn's.
Fingers crossed.

Right. Except for all of them. Stupid person.

Anyways, as far as the chicken design goes, it was unoriginal, and lacking in inspiration, especially compared to previous Oddworld designs, but it fit. A town full of interesting, twisted characters wouldn't be nearly as mundane and desolate-seeming as a town full of unremarkable dolts. I dunno. I liked the Clakkers.

Zerox 07-05-2006 09:42 AM

I think Strangers Wrath was rather rushed for a release date, not allowing much time for character development, as well as being controlled by EA. They wouldn't let you do anything interesting, ecause they suck, and their games suck...plus Stranger didn't even have seperate endings...

Seeing as how they had four years of working on nothing but Stranger, I don't think that was the case. But you never know. Concepts on Stranger changed a lot over the years.

Xavier 07-06-2006 04:10 AM

Stranger wasn't rushed at all, it was fully done when they released it and weren't annoyed by some dead line coming from EA

Mudoko_Jedi, even if I agree with you, don't post personal messages like this, use PMs

Mega-mud! 07-07-2006 12:50 PM

damn right stranger is skillfully made!

Mudoko_Jedi 07-07-2006 11:33 PM

sprry Xavier,

anyways, Stranger was not rushed it was ruined by EA even though most of their games rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lord Vulcher 07-12-2006 05:28 AM

So, any thoughts when the site will be opened? I'd say in a couple of months, maybe sooner.

sketch 07-12-2006 05:56 AM

I can't wait for it to re-open then hope fully I can re-register because I lost all my old codes from when I originally registered and I never even got to access the secret parts of the site....

Lord Vulcher 07-14-2006 06:29 AM

Well, they are taking their time to build the site, aren't they? Lets just hope that it loads quicker than the old site.

used:) 07-14-2006 06:37 AM

The old site loaded just fine with me.

Xavier 07-15-2006 03:17 PM

I realy tought it would be open now...
I guess we have to wait another month or the end of the summer holiday to see it
