Forestry is going to be added to BuildCraft anyway, so it might cause some problems down the road if you add it now.
|
I really liked Thaumcraft from the Technic pack, it was really the only thing I was good at. Shame we can't add it to the server though. :L
|
I never liked Thaumcraft. Alone I'm sure it's fine, but I really fonud it got in the way of my industrial endeavors.
I've actually learned a bit from the Yogscast recently, but the best way to get good at IC and Buildcraft is to just dive in and do things. |
The problem I've found with Thaumcraft is that, despite playing many Technic Pack SSP worlds, I've only ever encountered the vis wasps. Never found any thaumic crystals.

Go watch all parts of this and become a better Tekkit player. Most of it still applies in todays version and new parts are still being made.

The Thaumcraft you folks were playing was the outdated (and crappy) Thaumcraft. They`ve updated it, now it has become awesome.

Just a heads up: Wireless redstone band 210 is now being used for automatic street lighting.
EDIT: Also after lighting up an entire road with these things, they look... Kinda crap when there are lots of them. Even if they function. I'll play around with their design later. http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1346801857 http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1346801857 |
I've done some more reading on the Forestry issue. Most of what I can find are rumors though. Rumors that it might be included with Buildcraft, rumors that Buildcraft in turn might not be included with Tekkit for that reason. And a Tekkit dev saying that Tekkit 3.1.2 worlds will probably NOT be compatible with Tekkit 3.2 when it comes out. This would mean starting a new world when it comes out, which is something I am not happy about or plan on doing.
So what I would like to do is install the 1.2.5 version of Forestry on the server now and see how things develop with Tekkit/Buildcraft/Forestry. I'll write up an easy to follow guide on installing Forestry in your client when/if I go ahead with this. All those in favor say Ay! |
I know it's an unofficial mod, but surely they wouldn't piss off that many people judging by the popularity of Tekkit?
Nothing seems to be set in stone just yet, I'd wait a little bit to see what happens before you require people to install extra mods and start using them and possibly make our world incompatible with future versions of Tekkit... Then if we definitely know that they're going to screw up with future versions of Tekkit in ways which make existing worlds incompatible, then we can start using custom mods. There's plenty of stuff to do in existing Tekkit for the time being, isn't there? But then that's just my opinion. |
I suppose that's true.
The problem is that the author of the Forestry mod is some sort of douche who thinks he's better than anyone else. He has an attitude that I have never in my life understood, even though I see it all the time. I even made a blog post about it once. He makes a great mod that is BASED on another popular mod (Buildcraft). He makes this as a fan for the fan community, releases this for the fan community, asks for feedback to the fan community. But when his mod is included with the biggest and most popular mod pack in Minecraft he suddenly starts whining and bitching that he never gave permissions and instead of requesting it to be taken out, he put in a piece of code that fucks up any player's world that uses his mod with the Technic launcher. In turn it was taken out of the package. I just don't get what someone can possibly have against one's work being spread to as many people as possible. It's not like they pretended they made it themselves and didn't give him credit. Ugh, some people. |
Uhm... Why have half the buildings been burned down in the original OWF server world? We do have a rollback plugin installed don't we?
EDIT: In fact, pretty much all the buildings in Ma'Spa have been vandalised in some way. You did install logblock so we can find out who did it, didn't you? |
What the fuck?
Edit: All the grieving has been rolled back. There might be some doors, torches and signs that are not properly rolled back though. Player Atomic_Goose has been banned as he is found to be behind all this for whatever reason. Does anyone know who this guy is again? I vaguely remember whitelisting him in the past though I dunno who he is. |
That isn't his channel, he was featured in someone's video.
It seems that any item attached to a block that fell off because the block it was attached to was destroyed by fire or TNT wasn't logged. But nothing that isn't repairable if people still care enough about it though. Thanks, Havoc. |
What the hell? Don't suppose you grabbed any screenies of the damage?
Regarding the Forestry modder's attitude, it's annoying, but it's their stuff so whatever. It's the same reason the very awesome Better Than Wolves mod isn't part of the Technic Pack. At least, in Forestry's case, I think it's because the author disagrees with AdFly, which the Tekkit engineers use. |
Didn't take any screens, but just imagine Ma'spa after a fire and TNT spree, that's pretty much what it looked like. Thank god for roll backs.
|
Was it just the core Ma'Spa town or the wider area, too?
Also, if Edd's right, any effected redstone circuitry is going to be ruined? |
We only checked core Ma'spa town but I rolled back absolutely everything since the morning before the destruction happened. Couldn't say about redstone, it depends on how it's placed and how complex it is to be honest.
|
|
Oh didn't think it would do that with an empty whitelist. I was in the process of changing the white list since the current one apparently is not working. I'll get on that ASAP.
|
If you hold the alt key when you take a screenshot with the print screen key, you'll take a shot just of the most forward window. Saves cropping.
|
I'm in the process of buying Minecraft.
I shall return |

Thanks again Havoc, it's working again.
BTW, while sitting here watching episodes of Red Dwarf all day, I've worked out a cooling system, over-heat failsafe system, and been testing the effectiveness of reinforced stone against nuclear explosions. I've also found a way to use railcraft to export power to those who need it... Guess what the next thing I'll be building on the server will be. :P |
You are going to make the server grind to a halt some day XD
|
I had a little poke round Havoc's and Ed's places again and...well I want to build something that's on par with you guys. :tard:
Once I've done that, maybe I can start making the jump to nuclear power. |
I'll be sure to come check this out some time
|
Welp, it turns out Tilco Industries has fallen behind in terms of technology. Yet we have enough ammo to fuel a world war. ._.
|
Well then, it must be time for a hostile take-over!
|
Turns out ammo fabrication is not the best course of action on a non pvp server, huh?
|
Oops, I broke the Tekkit server 'cause I'm an idiot. Turns out water strainers can cause a very rare, world-breaking bug in SMP. Thanks for fixing it in MC Edit, Havoc.
So much for my infinite power-generation plant - I lost my entire power room and what was in there, and part of my stairs, but that's better than losing the entire world. I won't be using them again. :S |
Stop messing with power Ed!
|
Ed's experiments with infinite power inadvertently destroyed the world. There's a lesson to be learnt here I feel.
|
He's gonna try nuclear power next. Odd help us all.
|
If you're going to do a job, do it right. :P I've been playing with failsafes, and it's far enough away from everybody else if the worst does happen. This time I'm hoping this won't crash the server.
http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1347557984 http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1347558009 Comin' soon! Oh and if this is a success, I'll be able to export power to people if they want, as I said earlier. Also, don'tcha just love it when this many creepers appear from a cave? http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1347558009 http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1347558009 |
What are those green screens with the writing on them?

@ Dripik - Fortunately, reinforced walls dampen the explosion down to just a very small localised area. Nuclear explosions in Minecraft aren't as large and destructive as you'd think... Which is both somewhat disappointing and a good thing at the same time. :P Hehe. |
