DarkHoodness 08-11-2012 01:20 PM

Aw, I came online late and the server is full. :( Someone better be filming it!

Splat 08-11-2012 01:24 PM

Major lag on Havoc's small server has made the adventure unplayable. The adventure has been postponed to Tuesday night; 14th August. 9PM BST. Havoc's gonna switch the Tekkit and vanilla servers for that night.

dripik 08-11-2012 01:24 PM

It's cool, we postponed the event due to the laggy state of the server. The worlds will be switched back the way they were so that server will be able to handle so many people on at the same time. We agreed to do it on next Tuesday at the same time.

What Splat said.

Havoc 08-11-2012 02:34 PM

I'm gonna look into an alternative solution for the vanilla server. At this point it's pretty clear that there's interest in both servers, so I'd like to keep both. But clearly my home server simply isn't cutting it when more than 4 people are on it.

Any suggestions are welcome, I'm kind of stuck right now and constantly switching the servers isn't a permanent solution either. Unless we can raise 24 euro a month to keep both servers online, I'm out of ideas.

DarkHoodness 08-11-2012 02:51 PM

I think there's only interest in the normal server now 'cause of Splat's adventure map - I think most people will be on Tekkit once that event passes. Wonder what we can do about future events, though?

Havoc 08-12-2012 04:48 AM

I've found a new and reliable server host that can provide us with 2 minecraft servers (1GB for Tekkit, 512mb for Vanilla) for the exact same price we're paying now for just 1 server.

Depending on how fast the servers can be set up (and if I can get refund for unused time at our current host) I'll try to have things running properly again before Tuesday night. Will keep you updated!

DarkHoodness 08-12-2012 05:29 AM

You sure it'll be worth it considering the lack of interest the vanilla server normally gets unless there's a special event? Then again it'll save you the bother of hosting it on your own server - And we can always swap the vanilla server out for special maps if we want.

BTW, I sent you a long overdue donation. Check your PayPal.

Havoc 08-12-2012 06:15 AM

Thank you for the donation, Dark :).

We'll see how much the vanilla server is going to be used. In any case I do want to keep the world available for nostalgia sake, we did build that world together. Would be a shame to lock it down and just move on.

Since I won't be getting a refund for unused time, the Tekkit server will remain the same until the end of the month. I'll set up the new vanilla server tommorow.

Hulaabeo 08-12-2012 11:32 AM

I had an idea while playing Tekkit. What if we made a Minecraft parody of the Gabbiar Auction but using the Enderdragon egg?

DarkHoodness 08-13-2012 10:13 AM

I figured out the problem I had last night with getting infinite, efficient power, and made a simple and easy to follow tutorial. Also I lost my mic under a pile of stuff somewhere while organising my living space, but that's probably a good thing.

Perhaps this negates the point of having power in the first place, though. :S Hmm. I've got a feeling water strainers will be removed eventually.

Splat 08-13-2012 11:01 AM

I don't know if I'm gonna like Tekkit. It's just... too... demanding. Too many rare resources that become too hard to hold on to as they're required for everything. Too much junk material hard and expensive to deal with... In the end you become super-powerful so everything's pointless, and getting there is too much hard work. Even getting a flipping macerator and making it work is a pain in the neck.
I'll give it another try but I'm doubtful.

In other news, remember that the adventure takes place tomorrow; please remember that Splat's Productions accepts no responsibility for loss of property, xp or life than may occur during the course of the adventure.

You might think water strainers provide decent power now, but as you get more advanced machines you'll see that it's really not that much. Certainly not enough to warrant removing them and there are other ways to get much more infinite energy.

When you build enough of them it does certainly provide a lot of quick power though.

DarkHoodness 08-13-2012 12:28 PM

Well, it's still the most reliable starting solution I can find anyway. A lot better than the alternatives if you have the resources.

Havoc 08-14-2012 08:55 AM

Server Announcement!

The new vanilla server is up and running. It's a bit less powerful than the original because I expect it will not be used as often anymore, but it should be able to handle big events since everyone is often in the same place anyway.

The new server introduced me to a new control panel which I had to get used to and I also had to redo the whitelist. I think I did it right, but let me know if you can't get on the server for some reason.

Everything should be functioning besides the Multiverse plugin.

New vanilla server IP: 37.59.141.73:25704

Remember that Splat's event is taking place tonight at 9PM BST, check http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/ to see what time that is in your timezone.

See you tonight!

DarkHoodness 08-14-2012 10:06 AM

Thanks for the reminder, I thought it was on Thursday and not tonight for some reason. :S

You get super-powerful in classic MC too and after a while, unless you're building massive, massive projects like I've (not) been doing (at least not for the past 3 days anyway), it gets boring after a time. It's one of the reasons the classic server has been so quiet...

Sure, the same will happen to Tekkit eventually, but the increased number of possibilities will probably mean it'll last a lot longer. There's a hell of a lot more things to do once you get your head around its complexity. Things aren't as balanced as normal MC but the people who threw Tekkit together have tried hard to keep it as balanced as possible so that you have to spend time earning everything before you become powerful (hence why they keep removing and adding mods).

Tekkit is fun once you understand it though. I had you in mind when I made that tutorial vid. You may also want to read the following guides:
Guide 1
Guide 2

And there are these wikis which can give you extra info:

In other news, that power station I made is resource heavy but works if you wire it correctly - Using a Batbox as a relay off of each 3x3 strainer section improves efficiency further. However the strainers glitch occasionally and stop working for no reason, meaning they have to be removed and put back, and also the 3x3x1 box of water empties very rarely. It's pretty low maintenance apart from that, though.

Question: does Tekkit provide the means to build absurdly destructive doomsday machines?

...I ask purely for scientific advancement, of course.

Splat 08-14-2012 10:51 AM

Stargates don't seem to be working.

Just build a nuclear superreactor, badly. Core meltdowns are... unpleasant.

Varrok 08-14-2012 11:39 AM

Your face is unpleasant.

am I doing it right?

Why are you giving him ideas :dodgy:

Also yeah Stargates don't seem to have survived the server move for some reason, so they need to be re-activated.

Splat 08-14-2012 12:08 PM

Due to the stargate trouble, the adventure will begin in Ma'Spa at the inn built by Darkhoodness (near the Enderman). Please meet there at 9:00 for a 9:15 start to the adventure. Nearest Ma'Spa rail station to the start point is The End station on the South Line.

DarkHoodness 08-14-2012 12:18 PM

I'll port people if needed.

Tired of playing Minecraft all by yourself?
Want to show people around in your new castle?
Want to be with other OWFers even when you're off the Forums?
No. I am tired listening about Minecraft.

Hulaabeo 08-14-2012 02:43 PM

Well, tonight's event ended with us all being tortured by Havoc in the End. XD

Crashpunk 08-14-2012 02:44 PM

Shit. I knew I forgot something.

DarkHoodness 08-14-2012 02:59 PM

It's alright I filmed it. :P I'll be editing it for the best bits and posting it up soon. Gonna take ages though.

EDIT: Ignore this attached image.

And you are?

Crashpunk 08-15-2012 09:09 AM

He's OANST's best friend.

gishygleb 08-15-2012 09:13 AM

No. I just won't play Minecraft. See how it can be done?

If you aren’t interested in playing Minecraft then why bother posting in this thread at all?

gishygleb 08-15-2012 09:27 AM

For Crashpunk's sake.

OANST 08-15-2012 09:37 AM

Sees how it can be done.

Crashpunk 08-15-2012 09:52 AM

Your posting in a Minecraft Thread. "I don't play Minecraft" for me?

What.

gishygleb 08-15-2012 10:00 AM

Now you see how it can be done.

Server Announcement!

Logblock is back on the Vanilla server. Basic use involves the /lb lookup and /lb rollback commands (mods only). For a list of usable parameters see this page.
Everything is logged, including door, switch and chest access.

Secondly, the point of Trial-members is that they can not do any major damage using TNT or lava. Due to a wrong setting they were able to place TNT (and light it) anyway. This has now been fixed.

Thirdly, I took the suggestions for the donation system and changed it a bit.

The Iron Tool package now costs €1,00 (less than a pound for you UK folk).
The Diamond Tool package now costs €2,50.
The VIP package now costs €2,00.

In addition you now also get a fancy [Donator] nametag when buying a package. It will stay infront of your name for 30 days after buying a package. After 30 days you will lose the [Donator] tag but you will keep the golden colored name to show off you once donated to the server! Check it out!

Remember, you can donate using the /buy command ingame and you will receive your items and abilities within 5 minutes of payment.

A similar setup will soon be available on the Tekkit server, though I am still thinking of other stuff you can buy instead. If you have any ideas, feel free to let me know. I was thinking along the lines of buckets of fuel, oil, lava. But I'm open to suggestions.

Wil 08-15-2012 10:07 AM

On topic, please.

gishygleb 08-15-2012 10:07 AM

Donate? Havoc, it's the worst ever way to invite cheaters and hackers. See how it can be done?

Havoc 08-15-2012 10:09 AM

I'm not inviting anyone, it's a private server. If you don't want any more infractions I suggest you keep out of threads you don't belong in.

gishygleb 08-15-2012 10:14 AM

I just see the first human, who is gaining money on Oddworldforums. Time to add advertisement, pop-ups, vip-statuses, and forum-donates.
