Show her better shows, then. Slowly ween her off the shit, and onto the cream.

I started watching Carnivale with her last night. She really likes it so far.

Sekto Springs 11-12-2012 12:46 PM

Why do you have to watch Dexter because she likes it? Fuck that. My fiancee likes Korean soap operas, but I'm not forced to watch them with her. She knows and respects that I fucking hate them.

Varrok 11-12-2012 12:47 PM

Force her to watch shows that you like

Sekto Springs 11-12-2012 12:48 PM

If the shows you like don't suck, no force is necessary.

Mr. Bungle 11-12-2012 12:50 PM

Unless they have bad taste. In which case, force them to adapt.

Nah. Don't force anything. Just try to make them adapt to better TV.

Varrok 11-12-2012 12:52 PM

Forcing is fun.

Because I like spending time with her, and we both work a lot, so there is little time for tv watching of any kind. I'm not going to keep her from enjoying something she loves just because I think it's poorly written. No, I'm going to watch it with her, make fun of it every once in a while, and enjoy the fact that I'm doing something with someone I care about.

So, fart on you.

Mr. Bungle 11-12-2012 12:55 PM

I can imagine OANST hooking his girlfriend up to one of those and forcing her to watch all the seasons of The Wire and Space Ghost: Coast to Coast.

Maybe in his fantasies.

OANST 11-12-2012 12:58 PM

Oh, she'll be watching both The Wire, and Space Ghost. I made her watch MST3K with me yesterday.

What I've discovered is that she actually does like good things. She has really enjoyed, and been engaged by everything I've shown her so far. She just hasn't found these things on her own.

Edit: Oh, and she loves Home Movies. We watched an entire season of it in one sitting a few days ago.

Mr. Bungle 11-12-2012 01:00 PM

Well that's good. I'm kind of surprised she likes The Wire, I had a pretty hard time getting into that one. Still haven't started season 2.

I haven't shown her The Wire yet. Read better.

Mr. Bungle 11-12-2012 01:04 PM

My bad.

I wish I had someone to sit and watch an entire season of Home Movies with. That sounds great. Hell, I wish I had an entire season of Home Movies.

Buy season 4. It comes with a cd that has all of the show's music on it.

Mr. Bungle 11-12-2012 01:13 PM

Will do.

In other news, I borrowed season 3 of The Office from my cousin and have been watching that. Goddamn I love this series, at least for the first few seasons. So many hilariously awkward moments, and downright hysterical antics of the characters. The bird funeral was too much.

OANST 11-12-2012 01:18 PM

How much did it cost?

Nate 11-12-2012 01:23 PM

I showed my ex the first few episodes of Firefly and it was almost like that. I'd say that he has terrible taste, but what would that say about me?

OANST 11-12-2012 01:26 PM

Yeah, well, it's not like Firefly was a great show. It was okay.

*bans*

Mr. Bungle 11-12-2012 01:27 PM

I couldn't even watch the entire pilot for Firefly. I just had no interest in what was going on. I've seen bits and bieces of other episodes, it just doesn't seem very interesting.

But that's coming from someone who isn't a fan of Sci-fi TV in general.

:

How much did it cost?
What? It's my cousins. I have no idea.

OANST 11-12-2012 01:28 PM

I've seen two or three episodes.

Manco 11-12-2012 01:30 PM

I’m borrowing Firefly from a friend right now. So far I’ve only watched the pilot, and while it’s okay I hope the other episodes aren’t so slow going.

Sekto Springs 11-12-2012 01:30 PM

Home Movies is on Netflix in it's entirety. Netflix has been pretty cool about putting on full seasons of shows I love, including bygone ones like Aaaahh!! Real Monsters!

:

I dunno. Love is blind. Unless you planned on having a Firefly-themed wedding, I wouldn't be too concerned.

OANST 11-12-2012 01:31 PM

I thought the movie was pretty good.

Sekto Springs 11-12-2012 01:32 PM

Firefly, like Homestuck, is one of those things that everyone loves that I just don't get. It's okay, I liked it well enough, but eh.

Mr. Bungle 11-12-2012 01:34 PM

I wish I had American Netflix. Canadian Netflix sucks ass, doesn't have Home Movies, The Office, South Park, King of the Hill or any of the good shit.

We at least get Nicktoons. So that's something.

So, you don't like Dexter but you watch MST3K? And you dare criticize Dexter of bad writing?
:

I love the original, and usually I wouldn't dare watch an American remake of a British sitcom because they are ALWAYS terrible. It's just that I heard Ricky kept an eye on things over at the American Office, so is it any good?

Mr. Bungle 11-12-2012 01:39 PM

I don't know. Personally I think Ricky Gervais is highly overrated, and can be quite the nuisance. All I know is that Greg Daniels is a great showrunner, so when he was at the helm of The Office it was fantastic.

Vyrien 11-12-2012 01:55 PM

I just finished watching Superjail, it's quite refreshingly surreal.

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. We will all cease listening to you now.

That's probably one of the best cartoons on TV right now.

You get that the point of MST3K is the bad writing, right? You get that. Right?

Ok, I didn't understand. My bad.

Yeah, the first episode is very slow to get going. The second episode is better, but the series doesn't really kick in to gear until about episodes three or four.

Sekto Springs 11-12-2012 03:57 PM

I watched the newest episode of Adventure Time, which was continuing from last week's episode where shit started to get real. This episode was a massive mindfuck that puts Inception to shame. This show is getting intense.

Mr. Bungle 11-12-2012 04:53 PM

God, I need to catch up. I'm only on season 3. I enjoy it and all, but I know how insane it gets later on and I'm so tempted to skip to season 4.

Mac Sirloin 11-12-2012 09:51 PM

I watched the english-language remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It was extremely good but all I could think while I was wathcing it was 'This isn't necessary why did they make it.'

Also Superjail is probably the most energetic show. Period. The animation is so spastic and wild but completely fluid, it's like being hyponotized by a voretex of gore. Goretex.

Crashpunk 11-12-2012 11:52 PM

I've been watching the latest season of The Walking Dead and I'm loving it. It's probably one of the best things on TV at the minute.

I'm not going to spoil anything so instead I'm going to post this. Probably one of the best reactions I've ever seen. it's really not meant to be funny...which is the funny part.

I'm watching it too :) It's a lot different to the comic book, although they take a few basic plot ideas and give them new spins. The new characters in Woodbury bring a lot more to the story and have really upped the ante in terms of empathy and danger. I've even get tons of Walking Dead Minecraft skins on my PC!

Lately I've also been watching Red Dwarf X, Andrew Marr's History of the World (amazing show), Wild Things with Dominic Monaghan and Inspector Montalbano. I'm also on the third series of 24.

Dynamithix 11-13-2012 03:41 AM

The last episode of WD was shit. Like, really shit. Nothing important really happened in it, it was just boring.
