Some challenges would be nice. I've been missing those.

Dipstikk 05-04-2011 10:25 AM

They could take the TF2 route and just add lots of useless hats and cosmetic items without actually doing anything to improve the game.

Mac Sirloin 05-04-2011 10:27 AM

It's supposed to be free (360 and PS3 included), so I'm kinda doubting hats or skins. Would be nice if they included those on consoles, though.

I'm hoping they release an area where you can experiment with portals as much as you want, with some way of dispersing every gel and with a couple of excursion funnels and bridges, just like, a playroom.

Dynamithix 05-04-2011 11:54 AM

Aren't they already selling useless hats and shit for the PC version?

Or what is this then:

Mac Sirloin 05-04-2011 12:36 PM

Of course they are. We mean MORE of that.

Dynamithix 05-04-2011 12:41 PM

Huh. I hope they won't add any purchasable items in the DLC.

DarkHoodness 05-04-2011 12:42 PM

Today Portal 2 was reviewed by Yahtzee.

Mac Sirloin 05-04-2011 12:46 PM

Oh boy, and now half of the Portal 2 players will change what they have to say about the game based on Yahtzee's opinions.

Dynamithix 05-04-2011 01:06 PM

Is 'yahtzee' or whatever that guy who makes those stupid reviews of games and thinks he's funny?

Ridg3 05-04-2011 01:20 PM

I like Yahtzee and I do think he puts a nice humorous spin on reviews but I would not change my views on games that he does. For starters, Portal 2 > Portal and I don't care what anybody says, even him.

Dynamithix 05-04-2011 01:45 PM

Agreed, Portal 2 is better than Portal, but I found some of the last puzzles in Portal were harder than Portal 2's were. Portal 2 wasn't that difficult.

Wil 05-04-2011 02:00 PM

I love Yahtzee. I rarely play the games he reviews, but when I do he generally backs up the opinions I've already made. He was spot on about portalable walls. An irritating proportion of the game seemed to be less about figuring out where you should logically place portals, and more about making sure you've looked up and down and left and right enough to spot the only portalable surface there is.

Dipstikk 05-04-2011 10:54 PM

Portal 2 criticisms aside, I admire this Yahtzee guy's insistence on not making any jokes. It's very brave.

MeechMunchie 05-04-2011 11:15 PM

People really need to take everything he says with a pinch of salt. I'm sick of hearing his reviews quoted as gospel. I mean, pretty much every one of his reviews has a disclaimer that he's a very oipinonated man and all his reviews are subject to personal taste.

He's not a professional. That's why he's popular. Don't treat him like one.

Wil 05-05-2011 01:02 AM

Also, when he makes reviews that aren't scathing and bitter, they're not entertaining and people don't enjoy them. So yeah.

Crashpunk 05-05-2011 01:37 AM

Yahtzee is cool. He does make me laugh with his talkingreallyfastwithoutbreathing rants.

Anyway back to Portal 2. I do want new levels for Co-op and new Hats, Taunts and Skins as well but I really want advanced chambers and the challenges such as least portals and least steps like in Portal 1 for Singleplayer.

Havoc 05-05-2011 07:11 AM

I'd love to learn using Hammer and make new maps for Portal 2 when the SDK is released. I've had my hand at it before though, it's hard to make good detailed maps that are somewhat on par with the originals.

Ridg3 05-05-2011 09:14 AM

Use 3DS max then and import your map into it. I don't think Valve uses Hammer when developing.

Havoc 05-06-2011 12:34 AM

That's even harder X_x

Strike Witch 05-06-2011 12:50 AM

GlaDOS is so tsundere for Chell.

Actually, I've always found 3DS a lot easier to use over Hammer. Hammer's only useful for whenever you want to place props and shit but all the structural detail can very easily take place within 3DS.

DarkHoodness 05-11-2011 05:26 AM

Well, yesterday they launched a beta version of their authoring tools:

Havoc 05-11-2011 11:02 PM

I just realized something.

At the end when you shoot a portal at the moon, GlaDOS's chamber is at least 15 stories underground. How the HELL can you see the moon when the roof caves in?

Wil 05-12-2011 12:59 AM

Everything above her chamber collapsed/was sucked out at the end of Portal. That's why her corpse is still there. Wait...

Phylum 05-12-2011 02:11 AM

I initially thought it may have something to do with Wheatly moving the room to you. Now that I think about it more, you can clearly see a vast expanse above you in the last test-chambers.

I always assumed Wheatley chose a different spot for his own lair, more towards the top.

*Eagerly awaits another one of Mac's pointless, shit-slinging rage-fits just because I posted here*

Phylum 05-12-2011 10:51 PM

Nonetheless, look up during the last few tests.

That doesn't explain why you're going trough a pretty long elevator shaft when GlaDOS sends you to the surface.

He moves one of the test chambers closer to him, not the other way around. Which supports the idea that the GlaDOS chamber is in a fixed position in the facility.

I think that's because GLaDOS wakes you up in her chamber with Atlas and P-Body. It's not in Wheatley's control anymore, so GLaDOS probably moved back down there. Would be my guess.

Mac Sirloin 05-14-2011 12:47 AM

Or it's just an outstandingly pointless piece of information. Why is it people can accept that killing GlaDOS in the first game created a mysterious black hole to the surface no problem, but seeing the moon is unheard of?

Dynamithix 05-14-2011 02:06 AM

But it's fun to make up theories of everything!

Crashpunk 05-14-2011 02:17 AM

Can we have a new catagory in the OWF awards.

Biggest Killjoy? :tard:

I know games have a tendency of not making any sence (Mario's fireballs underwater) because they are games and they don't have to make sence. However I think its fun to debate the games and making theories up about them.

Havoc 05-14-2011 06:03 AM

Making up theories and backstory is how stories like Half-life and Oddworld have evolved. Half of the backstory in those games are made up by the fans over the years.

DarkHoodness 05-14-2011 06:48 AM

You also have to remember that most game storylines aren't entirely consistent or set in stone either, especially the Half-Life series. Just because you saw an event happen in a certain way in a prequel, doesn't mean that its sequel will acknowledge that the event happened in exactly the same way.

Gotta love retroactive continuity.

Mac Sirloin 05-14-2011 11:46 AM

We're not talking about plot. We're talking about the moon.

Dynamithix 05-14-2011 11:49 AM

I just realized we didn't use any spoiler tags. Heh.

Crashpunk 05-14-2011 12:00 PM

I'm pretty sure everyone knows the ending now.

I was responding to your earlier post of:

But I forgot to reply with quote. Also nobody seems to really complain that GlaDOS went through that hole too and was outside on the parking lot at the end of the first game, but in the second game you mysteriously find her in her chamber. I thought you were referring to that for some reason, no idea why.

Phylum 05-14-2011 06:16 PM

Maybe they moved her back inside?

Havoc 05-15-2011 02:33 AM

Chell was dragged back inside, why couldn't GlaDOS have been?
