Twilight is alright as long as you don't set yourself up for a vampire bloodfest.

Not really, Stephanie Meyer is way out of her league, doesn't know the first thing about inserting symbology into her cliched crapfast of a stagnant love story and her prose is purpler than Violet Beauregarde pissing off the arse end of a rainbow.

Anonyman! 04-20-2009 01:04 PM

I agree wholeheartedly. That, and the vampires being total pussies (even by Anne Rice standards) and the book being half a notch above fanfic level.

Strike Witch 04-20-2009 01:12 PM

I just wanted to kick Bella in the face repeatedly for being such a dumb fuck.

What? You read it?

Strike Witch 04-20-2009 03:06 PM

Nah. My friend and I heard how bad it was and found some excerpts on the internet. These made us retch so we wiki'd it.

Alcar 04-20-2009 05:24 PM

If I'd known Manga was considered 'reading', I'd have long ago mentioned that I am reading Neon Genesis Evangelion, am up-to-date with Naruto, and have recently finished Death Note.

Joe, I've seen a few episodes of the Yugi Oh! anime, and was not impressed. Convince me that the manga is worth reading.

The Shadow Game
The convict's situation.

Yugi brings out the drink and smokes and plops himself into the seat across from the convict. The convict gets enraged at his nerve, bellowing back at him "Who said you could sit down?" Yugi replies that he thought he'd help him pass the time and suggests they play a game, if he has the guts. The convict is surprised, by Yugi's sudden change in attitude, wondering if this could be the same guy. Anzu too is surprised. It sounds like Yugi to her, but is too confident to be him. Whoever it is, she thinks, is crazy to talk to someone with a gun like that.

The convict accepts, and the game's rules are that each player must choose one finger, and can only move that one. Other than that, the players are free to do whatever they want. The convict chooses his index finger, planning to use it to shoot Yugi, and Yugi uses chooses his thumb. The prisoner about to shoot Yugi, until he shows him a lighter. Then he convict realizes that he didn't light his cigarette yet, and then orders Yugi to light it for him. When he was lighting it, the prisoner starts to pour his drink. But then Yugi, 'drops' it on the prisoner's arm. The prisoner now can't move because if the lighter hits the 90% alcohol (180 proof) russian vodka, his body will be burn. Then Yugi grabs Anzu and starts to walk away. The prisoner starts to say something, but the cigarette falls into the drink.

Yugi escorts Anzu away after the game. Yami Yugi changes back to regular Yugi, just before Anzu takes off her blindfold. Yugi, oblivious to the game that just occured, is glad to see Anzu okay. Jonouchi and Yugi, rush to each other. Jonouchi also didn't see the game and only knows the prisoner set himself on fire. While they reunite Anzu looks around for her saviour. She puts on her hands on her chest, thinking to herself, that she'll never forget that voice, after all she's fallen in love with its owner.

And how could I forget...
http://img05.nj.us.mangafox.com/stor...ssed/yoyos.jpg
For the first seven volumes of the manga Yami is an insane motherfucker who goes around either driving bullies insane or mind crushing murderers, it gets a bit tamer after the manga gets to the arc the anime starts on but it doesn't lose it's edge. The 4kids adaption is horrible adaption decay and it should burn in fire.

EDIT: Wait? You're up to date with Naruto? How have we not shared epileptic trees yet? :3

Strike Witch 04-20-2009 06:33 PM

Yeah, the original book is pretty fucking awesome.

The latest anime series 5Ds is kinda similar to the original, it's got a decidedly older slant and a more decent plot.

Anonyman! 04-21-2009 07:22 PM

At least you fucktards aren't obsessed with the anime-manga bullshit. Save for Ghost, but she lives in Japan or some shit so it's excusable.

Nate 04-21-2009 07:27 PM

For some reason I've started reading the last Harry Potter book again. This when I've got a pile of new books from the library that I seem to be avoiding for some reason.

Strike Witch 04-21-2009 09:38 PM

Actually I currently live in Australia.

Alcar 04-21-2009 09:45 PM

You're back?!

Kawaii! :D

Strike Witch 04-22-2009 12:03 AM

Thankfully I'm never going to say WHERE in Australia.

alf's brother's mate 04-22-2009 04:13 AM

I am currently reading "Life and times of the Thunderbolt Kid" by Bill Bryson and it is hilarious.

OANST 04-22-2009 06:26 AM

I'm reading 'The Winds' Twelve Quarters' by Ursula Le Guin. Interesting stuff.

I read through all of them late '08 for some reason. I think I'll reread the last too.

Turns out "That Insidious Beast" is long as shit and of surprisingly lower quality at the beginning.

Fuck it, I'll just read the next chapter that comes out.

I'm confused.

I like the Harry Potter books. I grew up with them so they're kinda ingrained into my brain. The fandumb is awful though.

OddjobAbe 04-22-2009 07:12 AM

I have just finished "On the Origin of Species" (I got it a while ago, but haven't been reading much lately), and I have now moved onto "Voyage of the Beagle". Interesting stuff. I wish I'd have read all this when I was younger.

I have little room to talk. I read them as well. However, I did not enjoy them. It was a weird compulsion.

I'm reading a Nine year old copy of Dog Fancy. What a coincidence.

OANST 04-22-2009 07:19 AM

And you have the same first name as Simon Pegg. The coincidences keep a comin'.

I'm like some kind of coincidence magnet.

Holy Shit!

I love Magnets!

I hope that Bullet Magnet posts next.

Wait, shit.

Wooooah

OddjobAbe 04-22-2009 08:40 AM

I just read a few chapters of "Voyage of the Beagle", and I am enjoying it very much. I wish that the people I know were actually interested in what I had to say about it, but whenever I speak about "On the Origin of Species", I get asked to shut my gob.

EDIT: Do you think Emily would let me nip out for some champagne if I told her that I had posted one thousand times at an internet forum? There has been absolutely NO excuse to get Sooty-and-Sweeped recently.

Wings of Fire 04-22-2009 08:47 AM

Well I'm celebrating my 1500th post with a bottle of vodka tonight, why not.

Oh yeah, and The Sandman is an amazing read.

AlexFili 04-22-2009 08:48 AM

Congratulations WoF :)
This week I have mostly been reading... university dissertations.

Mac Sirloin 04-22-2009 09:54 AM

1926? Scotch time!

I think that spending hours at a time pouring over Tvtropes counts as reading.

Wings of Fire 04-22-2009 09:56 AM

I can't see why not, I mean, Twilight counts as reading.

I'm reading through some History book or another.

Actually I currently live in Australia.

Hence the "or some shit."

I have nothing to contribute. Except I remember Jane Eyre boring the shit out of me. Save for the Victorian speak. Yummy.

Wings of Fire 04-25-2009 10:35 AM

Got quite the reading list today from my monthly outing to the World Outside. Starting the second volume of Sandman as we speak, also finally found a copy of Nietzsche's Beyond Good and Evil that I shall be ploughing through and also bought a couple of Yu-Gi-Oh mangas to sate my addiction and finally a introductory guide to Ethics to supplement my revision for my incoming Philosophy exams.

Other than that, I doubt it really counts but I'm reading through my professor's lecture notes on my Philosophy modules. Man is such an elitist it's legendary, he uses the word 'Ignorant' at least five times on every page, usually in the same sentence as 'sloppy' and sometimes preceding 'idiots'.

Dixanadu 05-07-2009 12:48 PM

I'm reading The Forge Of God by Greg Bear.

It's quite gripping.

Wings of Fire 05-08-2009 10:27 AM

On to The Princess Bride finally, looking forward to an epic read.

Strike Witch 05-08-2009 12:50 PM

Reading the Code Geass Nightmare of Nunally manga.

Compared to the compressed trainwreck of a show, the Manga's idea of four different alternate stories means that I'm gonna find one I like eventually. Plus Nemo is a pretty decent character, so eh.

Dixanadu 05-08-2009 01:44 PM

By Nemo, I hope you don't mean that clown fish. He really grinds my gears.
