Software Bug 03-20-2005 12:34 AM

This is just a thought but :
In AO there was the MO relation from the door with "Vykkers Labs Comming Soon"
If we look close cant we find some SW - Fangus relation??

Fuzzle Guy 03-20-2005 12:36 AM

Oddworld Doing something related to Scotland? My Nana's from Scotland, I'll ask her if it looks anything scottish like (Or Maybe she might be offended)

Tim, we never found anything related to Soul Storm Brew, but the drawing of the Octigi on Abe's Oddysee, had a picture of Mr. Sekto on it, so it might not be in Stranger if you're gonna start looking Tim

Software Bug 03-20-2005 12:46 AM

ok i messed up i meaned AE:p

AE - Door to Vykker's Labs
AO - Octigi

Are you sure its sekto??

Fuzzle Guy 03-20-2005 01:04 AM

I know you meant AE, but I'm saying in Abe's Oddysee, if you look around theres a poster of Sekto infront of a river in Rupture Farms.
I was just saying, don't always look around in the revious game, look around in every game.

Software Bug 03-20-2005 01:12 AM

i have some thought we can look in SW
i will look in other games tonight , i have a meeting of design group today.

1] Bounty Store - Look for maybe pictures of Fangus or something
2] Sekto Springs Dam - Posters or something like that
3] Towns - Anything that looks supisious:p
4] Exactly everywhere:)

Im glad i save milions of time:)
anybody has Action Replay or Max Drive?

mudling 03-20-2005 01:23 AM

ok, there were oktigi in the art book and that is what sketo and those birds turned into. i'm sorry but i don't think there is anything to do with fangus in strangers wrath. try talking to any guy/ girl with or has something to do with animals (slog handlers, sleg hunters, vykers e.c.t.). maybe this is more proof it is an april fools joke but i think this art work is justt one of the many ideas OI have for fangus. maybe the game will change later so i don't think it is a good idea to look for any proof of his existance.

*edit* i wouldn't like it if fangus had to fight the otgi let again. maybe a knew speacies for a new "bad guy".

Mojo 03-20-2005 02:52 AM

Gloktigi in Abes Oddyssey? Where?

Cloverfield 03-20-2005 03:32 AM

Wow, so many posts in so little days.

I guess I take back what I said about reserving judgement. But of course Game Informer are often true, but are often not. So it's hard to tell.

Although the chracter does look cool, I can't help but be somewhat dissapointed. All those guns and bullets and that. It's just ... eggh. I don't know, it doesn't sit right with me. What happened to Sherry's vision of being able to create games and have characters that appeal to the female gaming audience as well?

Don't get me wrong, I love Stranger as a game as much as the next Oddworld fan, but it just appears they are moving away from the whole "unlikely heroes" thing that they had with Abe and Munch. You know, little guys that look like they wouldn't be able to defeat big hulking dudes. But then we have Stranger who is a beast of a guy but uses a crossbow and live ammo [which I found cool and unique], but this new character with all his guns and bullets. This just seems so "un" Oddworldy to me. *sigh*

I guess I'm kind of alone in this view from all the posts that I read. Although I look forward to another dark game, it's just the character doesn't fit. He'd make a cool bad guy, but a good guy with guns on Oddworld. :(

Abe Babe...

mudling 03-20-2005 03:44 AM

i am a bit dissapointed too but i doupt we will see unlikely heroes again. ok, i have to admit, in AO there was a bit inside me jsut looking for an escuse to shot a wall and in munches oddysee i was just waiting for action. hte world wants action and oddworld is basically trying to make games to the world. but then a multiplayer puzzle game would be cool too. i jsut wan't those puzzle games back, i wan't abe, but the door between us is closing. we ca only hope and yes an insect version of fangus would be cool!

I just went to my fav dutch news site, and came up on this:

http://www.gamer.nl/nieuws/25659
It also has a link to a french site : http://www.xbox-mag.net/-rumeur--le-...0--__7221.html

So it seems pretty serious.

I think, it is Serious :), but we must wait for some info from OWI.

mudling 03-20-2005 04:20 AM

finaly a decnet picture that i can put on my desktop without showing the article, more proof of this games existance and something to practice my french with (if the site is french) becuase i have a test tomorrow!

Scrab Watcher 03-20-2005 04:26 AM

*danger*
*overuse of inverted commas ahead*

I must say, I'm not to sure about this one. Seems to me, since he's got rabies, that upon compleating the game, one would have to kill Fangus. I think that the 'ultimate sacrifice' thing could be done magnificently by OWI, but this character just doesn't seem to fit it, like Abe Babe said. I know I'm judging him but, he seems like yet another run-of-the-mill gunslinger, even if he has got evil sheep.

Whenever the theorys in this thread make me excited, the artwork squishes my hopes. This guy just looks 'evil cuz itz kool' kind of dark to me rather than 'dark side to consumerism/globalisation' kind of dark to me. The article doesn't say anything about sheep with rabies, so I'd take it that they are just nasty critters anyway, and last time I checked Oddworld weren't for the 'evil because they're evil' aproach.

And besides....didn't OWI learn a lesson with MO? I don't imagine them spilling this much information out so early on, even if they feel they can accomplish it.

In regards to this, we knew about Stranger's secret in the summer of 2003. The game came out one and a half years later.
This Fangus game, if information and previous things are anything to go by, will come out within one and a half years.

Software Bug 03-20-2005 05:22 AM

i think it is posible we see this game with christmas...
Stranger's wrath was finished november 2004 , ready to sell.
of course they tested it a lot since then and when i came out
but it can be they already have a whole game that just needed to be putten together etc.

Maybe. I will be very happy, when New game will started in Christmas :)

Really? Don't s'pose you could get a pictureshot of that could you?

Software Bug 03-20-2005 08:08 AM

Fuzzle guy ,
Can you be just a bit more precise where the poster is?
i would like to know that.

HALF OFF TOPIC - Is there a record hold for fastest post filling thread?
I think this one will have it now...
Already 258 posts in just 3 days!!

CarboN 03-20-2005 08:48 AM

I'd want more reptile characters.

I'll be happy if gamespeak returns o.O

Oddsville 03-20-2005 08:57 AM

Don't get too down Abe Babe, we still no nothing of this game and who knows mabye Fangus goes insane in the end and becomes evil. Anywho I think OWI will stick with their values for this game, they just might wanna make it appealing to potential new fans.

Kimon 03-20-2005 09:22 AM

I pretty much agree with Abe Babe. I'm still looking forward to it if it's real, though.

Shinjara 03-20-2005 10:08 AM

That artwork looks awesome. Personally, I'd find it more appealing if there were no guns at all, and Fangus actually used his physical skills, which would make him look like more of a "shepherd" I suppose. This artwork certainly shows a certain darkness and it looks like a game I'd enjoy to play. These new XBox games are certainly tempting me to buy a XBox :P

I feel quite skeptical, I'm not sure why though.

Scrubs 03-20-2005 10:43 AM

Arrrghh

Geez, these badass characters are being developed because they fit in with the game engine oddworld have developed, that doesn't mean oddworlds changing!! There will still be new characters developed that are going to be schmucks.

And saying that Oddworld has had enough of Abe is just stupid, of course we are going to see Abe and Munch again, maybe in 5,10 or 20 years time in film or games.

Oddworld are obviously trying to develop multiple characters in different game genres, maybe to build up a wider fan base before the first Oddworld movie is made.

Think of Oddworld as a comic book company like Marvel, they have all sorts of different charcters in their universe, some people like spiderman or X-men others like blade or the punisher, the thing is they have different characters, for different tastes.

Man I hate these pre game rants, people talk so much crap(Like me :) ) but it cheeses me off.

Peace out guys

mudling 03-20-2005 11:14 AM

i agree scrubs, i think abe will now come back as will with other characters including much.
here are a few notes on how this game could be OSW:
stranger could have had another deasiese before lorne changed it to him being a steef
that ship in the distance looks like a wolvark ship
this picture of fangus could have perswadded lorne to start making a baddas character and his story
those sheep could be evolved into the live ammo we have today
the brown sky could have something to do with being in a western culture

sorry for being so negative but i was just trying to think the other way.

ANN NEELY 03-20-2005 11:35 AM

Look on Fangus's shoulder, there are two bite marks.
Perhaps this has to do with the "rabies" thing?

Looks more like gun shots to me.

mudling 03-20-2005 11:46 AM

thats what i said earlier. so maybe that is how he got rabies! i don't think anyone could survive 2 gun shots but fangus could be diferent. i want those games like AO and AE were you die in 1 hit, making it alot harder to survive and more realistic but i reackon it is fun not dieing easily and easier too! i wan't oddworld's oppion on fangus and our thoughts. i am beginng to like this game and hoping for it's existance!

Xbox Mag only reported the article we are talking about, and so does Gamer nl.

but I'm pretty sure it's official anyway

sligster 03-20-2005 12:28 PM

yes, it seems that OWI is straying afar from the unlikeley heroes...

hopefully, mabey after Fangus, we can see a return of the little guy taking down the big guy. I would like that.

Nice to see you agree with me. They very much appear to look like gun shots, and the bullets don't reach in that deep becuase of his thick muscles.

Edit: 10 pages! :D

Kimon 03-20-2005 02:33 PM

My first reaction to the holes were either stab wounds or gunshot wounds. However, it really could be anything, even just a small detail to add to the toughness of the character. But I thihk it would make the most sense if they were bite marks, just because of the whole rabies thing.

Nepharski 03-20-2005 11:50 PM

:

This game looks like it has a bit of a scottish theme to it. Like:

- A kilt
- traditionanly scottish poeple who where those skilts, were muscler and strong becuase it was hobbie trowing and lifting heavy objects.
-Goats/ sheeps are in Scotland
-High lands
-Clowdy grey skys

Proof me wrong if you must, but it has a connection.

I realy like the cloths and such and very cool guns, but I don't like that he's some kind of cheeta creature.

Plus, Fangus sounds like Angus.

A scottish anti-hero...sounds diabolically delicious.

Oh, and to answer jacob's quandary about him being a bit muscular for a shepard, bear in mind that shepards have to defend their sheep no matter what. Depending on what kinds of fiends like to munch on Oddworldian sheep, who knows how much iron he'd have to pump to knock 'em back.

The race against time things sounds interesting. Maybe the game would be timed (either all the way or just the first half or something), and as the clock counts down (You'd have a meter), you'd get tougher and more powerful...of course, you'd be that much closer to dying too.

Just a few worries from me...because that's what I do.

-I have little-to-no problem with a somewhat darker atmosphere. The original two games were dark, and I loved them. Munch's Oddysee, with all due respect, is a little too, "bright." However, an M rating...one wonders what they'll be puting in it. Hopefully they can keep it a T. I pray that they can.

-What about the quintology and unlikely heroes? Sure, guns and (excuse me for this, but) badass heroes are, if you will, in...but conformity just strangles. Besides, I'm missing Abe. I don't mind a tangent or two right now, but I eventually want to play that last bonus game of that last instalment of the quintology.

-A satire of the War on Terror. Personally, I hope not (Just a tad bit political and controversial). I mean, so is slavery and animal testing...but most people can agree those are evil. Something like the War on Terror is just, for lack of better words, too controversial. Someone's going to yell at me for saying that, but I needed to get that out.

Now, Leorne create Oddworld, and if he really wants to go in this direction I can not and will not stop him, and (Feelings aside) will probably buy said game anyway. Still...

BTW...isn't Game Informer the one that does an April Fools every year? I know there is one, so maybe they collaborated with OWI or something, and this is their's.

Whatever...I just hope Leorne and crew know what they're doing and do what they think is best.

P.S. Sorry if I ruined the party with my be-moaning.

EDIT: This has to be a prank. I mean, come on...Fangus AND Fangustan? Popberry feilds? Lame, lame, lame. Surely the Oddworld staff could do better than that.

MojoMan220 03-21-2005 03:26 AM

In response to some of Nepharski's worries:

I think the M rating is because of the dark themes rather than violence, I don't think Sherry would let it become too violent. I wouldn't mind a whole lot of gore, but that's just me.

The game is most likely using the OSW engine, so they pretty much have no choice but to make a gun totting brute. I don't think they've jumped ship just yet.

I think that pretty much all those magazines do an April Fools thing, but this looks and sounds too real. I don't think they are that clever, and if they are, they did a good job of tricking numerous websites.

I wouldn't trust GI to get the facts all right so early on, but maybe there are very good reasons for those names. Everybody went nuts when they heard what the live ammo was called. I think it is very possible this is fake, but I would have no problems with those names ("What's in a name?").

Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but isn't it a little too early for criticism. I mean, we don't even know if this thing is real. I know that people are very protective of the Oddworld culture, but it is the gameplay that matters at the end of the day. If they can make a good game, I'll be happy. If they can make that same game in a year, we should all be celebrating. Oh well, the same thing happened last year, so I can deal with it.

SeaRex 03-21-2005 05:30 AM

C'mon. That "picture" of "Fangus" looks an awful lot like something that would just be... I don't know... and early concept of Stranger? Boots? Hat? Lion-esque? C'mon.

Well, if this thing isn't a bogus pile of horse crap, then I think it sounds great.

I mean, OWI could do so much with that template. Throwing their hat into the ring of religion? Balls! That's what it takes! The subtle details of this basic plot are great. You have the shepherd, which is the universal savior stock character. Also, he KNOWS that he is destined to die... sound familiar?

Then, if OWI really had some grapes, they could take this Jesus template character, apply him to a middle eastern setting, add an "evil" Glukkon invading force, and PRESTO! You have an ironic, startling (I mean, the mixing of religious icons alone...) look at the War on Terror from a different viewpoint; the view of invaded, NOT the invaders. Unlike Nepharski, I really REALLY wish OWI would do this.

I swear, they could do some great things with that plot... assuming it isn't bogus horse crap.

I wouldn't mind the name Fangus, but I don't like Fangustan.
I can't decide whether to take this information as a prank or real deal.

"This is just the beginning for Fangus" Could that mean that Fangus would have many games, therefore he couldn't die in the end?

If you were badass in the game, you'd play your last levels in hell. If you were all well behaving you'd play them in heaven.
