You've got a fair point actually.
|
If the ARG had its own forum, you could split up the puzzles into individual threads so you're not constantly tracking back and forth across fifteen pages, talking over each other, and discussing multiple ideas at once. Also, a mod could add a little note to the title of a puzzle once it has been solved, to avoid new members coming fresh from Twitter being confused and alienated.
|
The puzzles are already split by thread, and the way the ARG is structured it’s not easy to know in advance which parts end up being related and which parts are separate. You can’t easily break it down much further than “photo 2”, “photo 3” etc.
|
The ARG has like two active threads at once tops. I don't think we need to do a whole sub-forum for it.
|
Photo 1 could have been broken up into at least three threads, for different stages of the hunt. A 29-page thread is cumbersome for a normal topic, which is why Xavier split off the discussion portion; for a sprawling and complicated scenario like the ARG, it's cumbersome and loquacious.
I agree with Vlam. The point still stands: There's more reason for an ARG subforum than for Let's Plays and Speedruns. If it's good for the goose, it's good for the gander. The reverse arguement can also be made: Consolidate Let's Plays and Speedruns with another forum. |
The Let's Plays subforum is legitimate because anyone could make a thread in it at any time in the future. The ARG is a temporary event, so a subforum would be a waste of time to set up.
Also, a hell of a lot more people were complaining about Let's Plays in OD than have ever complained about the ARG. |

2. The majority of new members are only on OWF for the ARG. 3. OWI might do more ARGs for future games (think about the "Spoiler Forum"). |
So we're just gonna seclude new Oddworld games in their own subforums and have an empty OD? What's the point? This is the only active thing OWI is releasing to us, hence it should go in OD.

By the way, Havoc used to be moderator of the "Fan Corner": http://oddworldlibrary.net/wiki/Oddworld_Forums_staff

Red who?

Why is this important all of the sudden? |
I didn't say it was "important". It's just that I didn't know.

I think one thing that may have contributed to the near death of this forum was that new users couldn't join, the account confirmation email wouldn't come through, for me at least. I was apart of this forum about 8-6 years ago but I couldn't remember my username or anything.
|
^ This. Many users complained about this, recently.

Just now found out people were discussing new Fan Corner mods. I don't mind taking the job if the admins decide to bring in new folks, but I also think J_Dude would be a good choice as well.
That's all I really have to say on the matter :x |
I, too, believe J_Dude Jaydee jfriend would be a good nomination for FC mod.
|
I think FF and JayDee should fight to the death. That is the only way to set this straight.
|
Man, don't tempt JayDee. He's ruthless. He like, walked to a totally different city overnight because his gf was feelin' blue. Guy's a force to be reckoned with.
|
Why didn't he take the bus?
|
Why do you guys want J_Dude320 to be a moderator? Just asking.
|
He's a top lad.

I've occassionally had people say that they're not receiving emails from the forum (password resets, that sort of thing), but every time I've tested it works fine. And we're certainly getting plenty of new member signups every day at the moment.
If you experience this sort of problem, let me know. |
But *how can they let you know if they can't log in?*
|
How do you test? Different email servers have different filters for what they think is spam - sometimes a legitimate email can be accepted by one provider and rejected by another.
