Actually, awaiting for practically a year for a game to be released on PC is too tedious. After all the PS4 walkthroughs I am even losing determination to purchase it.

Manco 01-02-2015 08:03 AM

I have to say at this point I’m really surprised how long it’s taking them to get the PC and other console releases done. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a multiplatform game go so long between releases like this.

I wonder what the holdup is.

STM 01-02-2015 08:07 AM

I'm guessing there's a valid reason as to why. Nevertheless it's pretty poor show to wait so long even after the platform exclusivity deal has expired. It probably sounds like a lot of cry-baby fan wank but it's a bit odd to penalise a majority of fans because of the machine they want to play on.

I'll support Oddworld for as long as I think they deserve it but this is a bit of a piss take.

DarkHoodness 01-02-2015 09:05 AM

Stranger's forum on Steam is almost entirely full of threads with people complaining about the game being broken, so I assume they're going out of their way to make sure the same doesn't happen with N'n'T...

They said here that they're "not quite finished with ensuring the game is fully optimised for all hardware, and have at least a couple of months left before release." And that was a couple of months ago, so I hope that they'll at least have some news about it soon.

You know, I'm starting to feel similar, and I haven't even seen any video of it. I'm just starting to lose interest.

Violet Void 01-02-2015 09:35 AM

Let me announce the true and obvious reason, that you all might have known long before.
They desire to gain more money from PS4 contract accomplishments.

STM 01-02-2015 09:54 AM

I dunno about that...I mean, have you seen the kinda shit Lorne Lanning puts on Facebook?

Violet Void 01-02-2015 10:00 AM

Enlighten me.

SoulStorm64 01-02-2015 10:05 AM

You guys aren't the only one that has lost intrest, not that I don't want to get the game, just the hype train that I was onboard of is no longer the case. I've already seen multiple play throughs of the game and everyone that I saw play the game are terrible (Besides for CrashPunk).

If it takes another 6 months.... It's whatever you can't help it. But hot damn.... That would make me lose so much more intrest.

DarkHoodness 01-02-2015 10:15 AM

Those who lose interest now will probably still buy it and play it anyway at some point after it comes out.

Violet Void 01-02-2015 10:16 AM

As true, I avow, DarkHoodness, though this is too obnoxious.

He's as hippy as it gets. Anti-capitalist out the arse.

Violet Void 01-02-2015 10:38 AM

Avarice is inevitable. I do not believe his exclamations after all the charade with game production. A hippy would never produce videogames.

I don’t think they’re penalising anyone for their choice in console but I think it’s really weird that they’ve now been working for six months on a game that was developed on a multiplatform engine from the start. Other than one blogpost giving a vague status update and a demo of the PC version at an expo a few months ago we’ve heard nothing.

I could understand this before when JAW were a newer and small studio that were working on porting old console games to new platforms, but it’s getting irritating now.

Wait, I don't get this. You mean they're penalising everyone else because they decided to develop for PS4 first?

Anyway, I hope they take their time. It sucks waiting but it will suck even more waiting all this time and be given a game that wigs out constantly. NnT on PS4 was rather buggy at release and, although JAW were very good and communicating with its audience and cranking out the patches, I don't think they can afford to repeat that with any of the ports.

I mean look at the Master Chief Collection. It's obviously on another plain as far as popularity goes but there's a game that's had an insurmountable amount of negative press because it's so buggy. If it had been delayed by 6 months a lot of people would have been angry but, in hindsight, the game would have been much better received.

And as Dark Hoodness pointed out Oddworld on PC doesn't have the best reputation. The originals require a resolution hack to run in a 4:3 ratio, Munch's Oddysee doesn't work for half it's costumers and, although Stranger HD fixed a lot of the serious issues Stranger PC had at launch there are still some people who can't really run the game.

EDIT: So they should be trying to make NnT PC as bug free as they can. Test the utter hell out of it.

DOUBLE EDIT:

Also, beyond cynicism, there's no evidence that JAW or OWI recieved a handout from Sony. As far as we know Sony got 1 month of exclusivity in exchange for New 'n' Tasty being showcased on their E3 2013 Stage Show.

Nate 01-02-2015 06:30 PM

JAW are going to have to do a hardcore PR blitz when this finally does come out. Anyone who was mildly interested in the game but willing to wait for the PC version will have completely forgotten it by now.

on a game that was developed on a multiplatform engine from the start.

Key sentence. The Halo collection is a port of games from old hardware, and there are big problems that come with that. They've said that there's a fully playable PC game there, so they either have one big problem with a certain hardware set or they're piss-fiddling with little details to make every scene run smoothly across the board. If they have to have hundreds of little hacks to make each scene run well on all hardware, then I really feel sorry for them, but they have a lot to make up with their PC reputation.

Anecdotal, but my favorite story of a port is Kingdom Hearts from PS2 to PS3. They lost all of the original data, so they had to basically recreate everything from the final retail version. Given the drastically different hardware, that probably meant recoding the entire engine. All of the graphics were redone from scratch. It was completely spot on, to the point where nobody could have known that it wasn't just copy+pasted with new graphics. Considering the differences between the PS2 and PS3, remaking it was probably a big part of the reason it was so good.

When I get a new PC Ill make a walkthrough for you :)

Also, Kingdom hearts 2 HD for PS3 is a terrible port. Theres 40 minutes more loading times.
Then again im a speedrunner, so casualy that doesnt matter...

We have to remind ourselves, that these days developers tend to be terrified on a thought of releasing something on PC, as it swarms with pirates.

There are people who comment to OWI on Twitter, every now and then, that they never knew the game was out on PS4.

But, anyway, I wouldn't be too worried. They still get tons of messages from people wondering what happened to Munch HD for PC, or Stranger HD for Wii U. And I imagine Oddworld will get at least an article on the major game news sites like IGN.

Sure, it would certainly be better if ports were released a month or two after each other but as is video game development I guess...

Also, Void, that probably factored into why they wanted to get for consoles first since Stranger HD - since ol' Stew boy has presented that sort of opinion in the past - but I can't see that it's been a huge factor in the last 6 months of development.

Crashpunk 01-03-2015 03:16 AM

I get asked "when is NnT coming out on [insert console/PC here]" time and time again. And I've always have said, if they have some new info, they'll it share. What's the point keep updating us on things we already know. Best to be patient and wait for any news on there Facebook, Twitter ect.

Personally. I can wait. In fact, I want them to spend as much time as possible porting the game onto PC, So then game will run fantastically. Not to mention big critics such as Totalbiscuit look at a PC port in depth. I don't want to see NnT badly ported to PC, that will break my heart.

I wouldn't say that was the case anymore. At least not as much. Steam brought PC gaming back into the mainstream and made it a lot easier and safer for developers to release games on. Sure pirates still exist and Steam does release some shovel ware now and then, but I highly doubt JAW are "scared" of released NnT to PC because of pirates.

Yeah, CP, we're going to put yours on the fridge. : D

And are you guys still wondering why they're taking so long? Isn't it obvious? This is Oddworld, come on guys, get your shit in gear.

You talk exactly like my friend, Ben Morgan. He's a very pretentious person.

The general belief these days is that if you make a good product, make it easy to obtain, and sell it at the right price, people will be happy to buy it. And those who pirate it after that are invariably those who wouldn't have bought it anyway, so you haven't lost anything.

I've heard this said in both the worlds of music and video games.

Violet Void 01-03-2015 12:13 PM

I dare beg to differ. Twas the reason, that JAW officially announced. Furthermore, there are people with such negligible mentality, that their foremost desire is not to purchase anything.

Well the reason Rockstar still haven't released GTA5 on PC is because they're worried about pirates. Seriously.
