Over the weekend I marathoned Hogs of War, because I demoed it for a friend and remembered how much fun it was in places. It’s kind of a PS1-era 3D Worms game if you’ve never heard of it.
It can also be an absolute shitheel of a game in the later levels – the final few levels took more of my time than the rest of the game combined, and the final level is 100% impossible unless you’ve been playing perfectly and gotten every single possible collectible upgrade point the entire game. Or you cheat. |
I played Hogs of War. I really liked it. It's really good and really fun. Another game worth my Seal of Approval

I've been playing Child of Light. It's so surprising to see such a female-dominated game, especially coming from Ubisoft. It's refreshing. Might be on the simple side but very beautiful and is fun.

Oh my gosh.
Thanks to Meech, I've been playing Multiwinia. This game is incredibly intense. Like, seriously. I have played only one real match so far but wow. What impresses me is that this game is not very complex. Most of anything you do is simple, but the way it is presented makes it feel like so much more. |
Banished and the DLCs for Victoria II.
Banished isn't half bad, it does become a wee bit repetitive though. |
I randomly tried out Borderlands 2 with my mates last night.
It's a very fun co-op game and it is very addictive, however I have a problem with the sheer amount of weapons that the game has. I spend so much time going through my inventory and swapping out weapons. Perhaps it's my OSD to find the best weapon possible. I've also been playing Wario World for my channel. I like it, however after playing it for a good 3 hours, I've started to notice that all the enemies are the same just with reskins and there is a lack of variety in the moves, granted the moves are satisfying as hell. Oh and every time you fall down a pit, you have to do this stupid, pointless minigame to get back to the level. So frustrating. I'm currently doing a blind playthough at the minute. Feel free to check it out. |
I've been desperately trying to get through the second level in Risk of Rain but so far no luck. I did find a teleporter once though, just didn't survive long enough to use it. Didn't expect the game to be like this honestly, thought it was a basic 2D platformer lol. Enjoying it a lot though.
I also started playing Arx Fatalis, an RPG by Arkane, the guys who made Dishonored. It required a fan-made patch to get it running smoothly but so far I like it, it's not really open world but it kind of reminds me of Morrowind. I picked it up in the 2013 Steam summer sale, not sure how much it currently costs but I recommend it if you're looking for an early 2000's RPG with a cool spell system. :

RoR is stupidly hard. In a good way.
BL2 is alright, never really had good people to play with. |
Last night I spent a good few hours playing AC: Black Flag. I hated Assassin’s Creed 3, but as it turns out all the people saying Black Flag was a much better game were right. It’s got all the bits of Assassin’s Creed series that are fun, plus the sailing and ship-to-ship combat that was in AC3 have been majorly expanded on and holy shit it’s so much fun to just tear apart navy ships with cannons and then board it and sword all the crew.
It helps that so far the main player character’s just been so much more likeable than Connor ever was. Dude just could not give a shit about about anything, he just wants to get rich. |

It's basically the world's only party RTS. Something like Starcraft is so complex that people struggle to get into it. Multiwinia is more like a cross between Galcon and Worms - within seconds of starting, everyone understands what to do, and from then on it's just escalating chaos. :

Outlast, man that game is rustling my jimmies.
|
I played Outlast and found it boring as hell.
It tries too hard. |
You can't say tries too hard until you've seen the DLC.
You can't un-see that shit. There's a line between creepy yet relevant, and deliberately trying to be shocking. The genital mutilation was waaaaaaaaaay over that line. Also what the fuck was up with the ending of the DLC when they just totally ignored that the Miles/Wallrider thing just walked out of the facility? I know they hinted at a sequel before that, but just leaving something so major hanging out there is pretty dumb. Especially so because they had the scene right at the end with the Australian, but didn't even mention the effect of a super-nanoswarm man let loose in society. |
I recommend Arx Fatalis. I haven't finished it yet, though
|
Not playing this right now but oh hey look, a proper survival horror game.
Looks interesting enough, though lazy at times. Has anyone tried it? |
Black Soul? That's racist

Bought Spelunky because it was cheapish.
First run felt ok, until I got one-shot by a spooky ghost. I tried a few more times, and it's fun so far. The platforming isn't as tight as I expected, to be honest. I got an ability which let me cling to walls, but that ended up just making it really hard for me to get off of ladders when there were several layers of platforms around. Easily worth the $7 though. So much to explore and discover. The blue guy with the fancy mo is the single best playable character in any game ever. |

Are you playing him?

Of course.

My dad, sis and myself have taken a break from playing Diablo 3, as much as it upsets me. I'm hoping we'll all get back and play it together soon though.
Anyway. It wasn't until recently that my sister stumbled upon Assassin's Creed 3, which I didn't even know we had. I've been watching her play, and it looks really interesting; even though I know nothing of the AC series. It wasn't until just a few hours ago that I made myself a save file on my own Ps3 account (She has her own file on another acc on my Ps3), and I'm totally addicted to the game now! ;P I love silently killing red coats on the roofs and jumping down at them in slow-motion. It's epic. I just have a question for those that have played through the series, (X-box or ps3, doesn't matter): does it matter that I start playing through AC3 and not from the very first game? Am I missing information from the previous games by cutting straight to the third? I'm liking the story so far, even though I don't know anything about the Assassins and such. (Yes, I know, stupid right?) :D |

Yay, I can play SimTower again (and emulate Windows 3.1 in DosBox, also allowed me to look through some ancient windows games I still have. Wow, the nostalgia.)
Brothers, A Tale of Two Sons is good with beautiful visuals, but it's not something you'd play for its gameplay, only for its cinematics. Lasts about as long as a movie. It's possible to play it with the keyboard despite what the devs say. Recently I completed Okami again with a friend - Another beautiful game with an art style which makes its graphics almost timeless. Fun and really long, too. It's a shame hardly anyone played it when it came out back in the day. |
I've been playing Child of Eden on Xbox. It's a rhythm based rail shooter that uses the Kinect, it's a very cool audiovisual experience definitely. It's also a spiritual successor to Rez I believe. The main story is pretty short, you can beat it in probably 2-3 hours but the game offers a lot of replay value and it is essentially about playing the levels again and going for better scores. You can also play the game with a controller, but it was obviously designed for Kinect and in my opinion it feels way better using the Kinect. Really recommend it!
