It's a little darker in the original, but then everything in the original is darker, I guess they just used a different palette or something? Different lighting? I dunno, I'm not a designer.

And before anyone says any fucking thing, I'm not suggesting this is good or bad.

Slog Bait 11-05-2013 12:59 PM

I actually think the Paramonia sky in the original looks more like the current Scrabania sky except coloured differently.

The skybox in the NNT screen shot is a lot sharper and the clouds seem to be more dense, the sky is more saturated, and there really aren't any lighter coloured clouds so it looks quite odd. Quite odd indeed.

MeechMunchie 11-05-2013 01:00 PM

Good thing this is fucking Odd-world then isn't it

Anyway, I think they're doing a proper day/night cycle this time around. One must assume that this is at the height of midday.

Now, you're all just distracting from the real issue at hand: Abe's bone-dry eyeballs.

Slog Bait 11-05-2013 01:01 PM

They glow in the dark and for this reason I can forgive dryballs

Scrabaniac 11-05-2013 01:20 PM

Yeah thunder sounds and lightning in the background would be epic, it would be cool to see how the weather effects Abe and other life forms, such as soaked in rain and sweating in heat.

As for the original photo, it seems more overcast and gloomy, but it's not really a big deal. The background is alive now rather than static, so that's what I'm more looking forward to than colour schemes

STM 11-05-2013 01:22 PM

Yeah that's what I was thinking, at first I was a little miffed that Paramonia was no longer the endless sea of pine trees with little rocky outcrops like in the original, but I figure that with an animate, living world now, that'd be pretty boring visually and harder to pull off without looking repetitive.

MA 11-05-2013 01:23 PM

not real enough. make it more real. i want to die when i'm killed in-game. that would be so cool.

Varrok 11-05-2013 01:27 PM

We can manage that

If I had to guess I’d say that’s a result of building a full 3D environment for the level and using multiple camera angles. In the original game it’s all matte painting backgrounds from a fixed angle, so they can get away with repeating the background elements without it seeming unrealistic.

But who knows, we’ve only seen a couple of screenshots and the temple wasn’t always visible in the old Paramonia either.

Scrabaniac 11-05-2013 01:32 PM

I'm intrigued as to how the temple will be in sight in the background like the original where after each camera pan it would appear at a different angle.

Varrok 11-05-2013 01:34 PM

Original clouds looked more fluffy and white, while in the remake they look like I-don't-really-know-what

V_O_T 11-05-2013 01:34 PM

Perhaps we can add some sort of death clock?

But I totally agree on seeing some wet weather that makes the the inhabitants look wet or that glossy glaze effect. But then again, it didn't rain in the first one. Nor storm. Would that be straying off too far? Either way, it's a wicked idea.

Scrabaniac 11-05-2013 01:42 PM

They have already strayed off with new cutscenes, which to me sounds amazing, so I don't think it would cause any harm to add more life-like effects to the game :)

OANST 11-05-2013 01:44 PM

For the record, all of your posts since the most recent fiasco, have been normal fan posts. Stuff like "Wouldn't it be cool if," or "I'd love to see." That's normal, and not unhealthy fandom. Everyone except Varrok, that is. He just told them that they made clouds wrong.

Cirrus or cirrocumulus perhaps?

Which really, the original looks like too.

Slog Bait 11-05-2013 01:50 PM

Clouds are fucking weird just so everyone's aware

Just look at the sky some time you'll realize they never look right

Can you imagine how epic that would be in Stockyards? I would love to see some rain effects.

Scrabaniac 11-05-2013 01:53 PM

Some of them can also look explicit :P

Nepsotic 11-05-2013 02:01 PM

It just looks more green. Forget it, I don't to get into this again, but subtle differences in colour can make a huge difference in tone. It reminds me more of the Barracks or Bonewerks which have really unnatural sickly colour schemes.

E: Fuck I missed an entire page.

Manco 11-05-2013 02:31 PM

You know I can actually see where you’re coming from when you put it in those terms – it reminds me of this fantastic article about Spyro the Dragon’s color scheme.

That said, I don’t think you’re entirely correct in this case. Go to Google Images and search for “Paramonia”. You’ll notice that there are varying shades of cyan used through Paramonia and the Paramonian Temple. Some, like the screenshot I posted earlier, are duller and feel more overcast, but there are certainly others that are more vivid and closely resemble the palette in the NnT screenshot.

What’s also noticeable when browsing Google Images is that Paramonia is very, very, cyan. Like seriously, that green blue is super vivid.

great find!

As a graphic designer i'm a sucker for their webpage so i've been sifting through it and looky here! another screen shot (that i dont think has been posted yet)

Great find V_O_T. This shot is incredible. While I've quietly maintained that JAW and Oddworld know what their doing, the fact that this beautiful shot was not explicitly included in oddworld.com's sets of released screens suggests a very high attention to detail and a strong desire for "New 'n' Tasty" to maintain the pathos of the original Abe's Oddysee.

Phylum 11-05-2013 11:23 PM

Nep's issue is with the colour and depth of the clouds, not the colour of the sky. Even if he doesn't know it. I promise.

Varrok 11-06-2013 04:17 AM

They look kinda flat

Scrabaniac 11-06-2013 05:05 AM

Do we know whether these screenshots are still pre-Alpha/Beta/whatever or are they final?

MeechCrunchies 11-07-2013 11:55 AM

I think it would be a hilariously fucked up move on JAWs part if they've been releasing Alpha and Beta screenshots just to piss you guys off but meanwhile mixing in some new photos here and there that are seriously way closer to Gold than any of you realize.. *coughs awkwardly*

Scrabaniac 11-07-2013 01:26 PM

I think that looks perfect, I kinda wanna see the suppressor in action, wonder what it does/looks like in this version

Varrok 11-07-2013 01:29 PM

I looked at the screenshot multiple times and only now I saw that there are two sligs kicking each other's heel

Scrabaniac 11-07-2013 01:45 PM

Hah never look at it that way, they also look like their legs are tangled, that would be funny if that could happen :L Talking of which, with abe using exoddus's All of Ya game speak, will he be able to slap?

And one of them doesn't have a shotgun.
