Awesome sauce. I'll get to work on it soon.

Havoc 06-06-2011 02:48 PM

Will there be a spectator's area or will it be a simple free for all?

Crashpunk 06-06-2011 02:55 PM

That sounds fun, I'm in too.

Wings of Fire 06-06-2011 03:06 PM

I'm game~

enchilado 06-06-2011 07:46 PM

Ooh, sounds fun. I'm in, if it's at a reasonable time for me to be on.

Or can you record it from a third person perspective then put it up on Youtube?

DarkHoodness 06-06-2011 10:59 PM

If I'm available and take part, I'll probably be the one recording it... Third person in Minecraft looks so naff, though.

*Epic... Double-post* This might get a little screenshot-heavy.

MSI's backdrop - At least people have a nice view while stranded on the island:

I got some little pictures for those who haven't seen Mole's Burrow and my fortress!

From left to right

1. The entrance to Mole's Burrow, with my signature Netherrack roof.
2. The interior of the entrance hut, could use a little bit more excitement.
3. My living quarters, nothing much to say here.
4. The Mushroom farms, I used fences instead of glass for a more esthetic touch.
5. The Mine of the Abyss, very deep.
6. A forward view of Fort Hula which is located next to Mole's Burrow.

If anyone has any suggestions to make some of these structures more appealing, please let me know! :)

Havoc 06-07-2011 06:46 PM

Ah... more cobble creations. Yay...

Crashpunk 06-08-2011 11:30 AM

I'm on the server now guys. Just letting you know.

I hate lava and creepers. I hate lava and creepers. I hate lava and creepers. I hate lava and creepers. I hate lava and creepers. I hate lava and creepers. I hate lava and creepers. I hate lava and creepers. I hate lava and creepers. I hate lava and creepers.

Havoc 06-08-2011 01:10 PM

Hey, Bart Simpson plays Minecraft too!

DarkHoodness 06-08-2011 01:12 PM

That nearly happened to me last night... Or at least it would have done if I hadn't poured water on the lava mere seconds before a creeper appeared behind me and blasted me into it leaving me with only one heart of health... That was lucky. And I would have lost a stack of iron. :(

But I survived by the skin of my teeth, so it's all good. :D

Splat 06-08-2011 02:16 PM

I saw a pink sheep once!

These are the proposed rules for Survival Island; feel free to state your opinions.

1: Take nothing with you. Leave your stuff in the chests provided.

2: Head to the island in daylight.

3: All you have to do is survive one night out there!

4: On the island, you cannot add or remove blocks.

5: You can't leave the island until dawn.

6: You can use anything in the chests on the island.

7: Please leave it as you found it: this may mean replacing damaged equipment.

8: After sunrise you may swim to shore, if you survived.

Sounds pretty easy i must say. Are there trees or a tree on the island?

Ridg3 06-08-2011 02:34 PM

When's the first game?

Wings of Fire 06-08-2011 04:06 PM

Have you fixed the tree you can climb up Wil and I found last night?

MarsMudoken 06-08-2011 04:44 PM

Right, I'm joining this. Or at least once Dripik finally let's me in. Or maybe just if he let's me in.

Ridg3 06-08-2011 05:29 PM

We'll make a shrine for you.

DarkHoodness 06-08-2011 06:00 PM

Well, me, Splat, Ridg3, Max and Ench all tried the first Survivor Island... Which I filmed. We had fun but it kinda failed when no mobs spawned at night (and one or two of us broke the rules about not placing blocks... lol). Eventually Ench had to kite some to the island, and not one of us died.

I'll post the film a lot later since processing it to find the highlights will take ages and I don't have time at the moment - Movie Maker has an option to brighten clips so you'll be able to see what's going on (even if the text will be harder to read).

Was a bit disappointing since it was a bit of preparation for not very much. At least it was still fun though.

Wil 06-08-2011 06:05 PM

I'm sure if we got rid of the tall grass, that would help. Sure mobs may have spawned there in the past, but I'll bet that's just chance. Since I filled the meadow with tall grass, mobs rarely spawn in it.

DarkHoodness 06-08-2011 06:45 PM

I know what we did wrong.

:

Mobs

Mobs spawn no closer than 24 blocks, but no further than a 272 x 272 area around the player's location (within a box of 17 x 17 chunks with the players current chunk at the center).

We need a larger island - I've made the island a bit larger (took me 10 minutes with the dirt from the base, hooray I found a use for it), and mobs are spawning now.

enchilado 06-08-2011 09:03 PM

We could use mob spawners. A small cobblestone castle at one end of the island, with a skeleton spawner on the roof and a few zombie spawners inside, perhaps? Or would that make it less scary?

What about surrounding the island with offshore mob spawners?

Phylum 06-08-2011 09:06 PM

Mob spawners still require a player-free space to spawn mobs, I believe. That thing about the castle has given me an idea.

A large, complicated stone castle with a few mob spawners inside. Forget the island. It could be a night in a haunted mansion or something.

DarkHoodness 06-08-2011 09:24 PM

Okay Splat, stupidly on my part at the cost of my time, I've fixed your game for you. :) First, my suggestion is to change the rules to the following (suggested changes are in red & bold):

:

1: Take nothing with you. Leave your stuff in the chests provided.

2: Make sure you have full health, then head to the island in daylight. Rule 1 includes food too!
And a note for this rule, maybe a chest should be full of wheat/bread from the main base and one of us will have to restock that occasionally.

:

3: All you have to do is survive one night out there!

4: On the island, you cannot add or remove blocks.

5: Use nothing except your fists. No tools or weapons allowed!

6: You may roam the entire island until nightfall, where from there on you MUST STAY ON THE BEACH. No exceptions!

7: You MUST NOT leave the beach (sandy area) until dawn!

8: After sunrise you may leave the island and swim to shore, if you survived.

9: When the challenge is over, please repair any creeper holes or damage caused by you or mobs. This includes re-lighting the fire!
Staying on the beach is important - If players roam the island at night, nothing will spawn which will invalidate the challenge. For this the entire island has been made larger to allow things to spawn and trees have been grown to provide cover for mobs, which works well.

Before:

After:
http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1307592950

I can't solo this challenge (I tried twice to test it, I can punch one mob to death but get overwhelmed by more - They come find me even when I stand still on the very edge of the beach) but I would like to try it again with a group of people. :D Should be a lot more fun now.

Nope, because otherwise you could walk into a dungeon and be safe.
