i like the way your thinking with the red ring of death (lawl i is so funny!) it would be cooler than the ring just randomly coming out of him

How will the rings be dealt with? I hope that instead of rings, they're like bubbles, if you know what I mean.

Yeah. Even before he uses the rings, I hope there's a different indication of what power he currently has, rather than the artificial construct of the spirit rings. Perhaps his body should have a pulsing red or blue glow?

JennyGenesis 06-05-2012 12:08 AM

Abe is already blue!

SpAM_CAN 06-05-2012 12:11 AM

I maintain that Red Rings should NOT be in Abe HD in any form.

JennyGenesis 06-05-2012 12:12 AM

Really? That's like removing the rocks! The red rings were cool and were a vital part of the game to pass some parts.

The more I read this thread, the more I hate it...

SpAM_CAN 06-05-2012 12:16 AM

And they totally take away the idea that the Shrykull is powerful, because it is essentially just a different animation (because most of the time, when Red Rings are used, they blow up bombs which get rid of Sligs too).

There is a reason they weren't used in AE, and it isn't one of technical issues...

Scrabaniac 06-05-2012 01:05 AM

Oh I don't like the look of Hadouken, very cheesy. (referring back to last page) I was thinking more of a red orb growing from the center or abe, nothing THAT dramatic, doing the same thing the Red ring does but make it a glowing transparent orb

And for the indication of which spirit ring he has, a pulsing red is a great idea, if abe is already blue, why not have electric sparks being given off? Maybe abe twitches when stood still as he's trying to hold his power inside?

xXxrenhoekxXx 06-05-2012 01:09 AM

but if they were removed it would ultimately be impossible to pass most of the puzzles before gaining shrykall or if you were to gain it in all the red ring areas it would create a plot hole,
wouldn't it be better idea to make all future parts after the temple that contain red rings give you shrykall instead?

Phylum 06-05-2012 01:17 AM

They're redoing the game from scratch, so puzzles breaking isn't really an issue.

JennyGenesis 06-05-2012 01:18 AM

But what about story breaking, like renhoek said, you don't get the skrykull until you have completed the temples.

You almost never need the Shrykull either, sometimes I'll just go on and complete levels without the Shrykull because I can't be bothered to save all the mudokons. If everything you say got through to the game, there'd be nothing left to play.

SpAM_CAN 06-05-2012 01:23 AM

I guess, but I just feel that the Shrykull is nearly pointless when you have Red Rings at your disposal

xXxrenhoekxXx 06-05-2012 01:25 AM

to me shrykall was the only weapon capable of destroying rupture farms not a toy, could the red rings really helped you get out of monsaic lines or destroy all the glukkons?

shrykall was only used when it was really necessary, not to look cool. (though I would have liked to see it more :P)

Fluff [: 06-05-2012 01:26 AM

I also think the shrykull is quite pointless, especially as spam can said with the red rings so much easier to get, having unlimited uses and pretty much doing the exact same affect as shrykull, it does make you look at shrykull from a different perspective. although i am a big fan of the original abes oddysee and it was my favourite game and i would like to see it left in

I was talking about the removal of red rings.

Other than the end of Monsanic Lines the Shrykul is only ever a reward for saving muds. The reward for using it is, oddly enough, saving even more muds. I never really liked that. I think the SB level in AE with the mud guiding through cover was the only example of when the Shrykul was well used.

xXxrenhoekxXx 06-05-2012 01:55 AM

I felt that in AE yes getting the shrykall ability is rewarding at the end, but what it's used for felt underwhelming as unlike the last game you don't kill the bad guys face to face.
just some random sligs.

Scrabaniac 06-05-2012 02:11 AM

Shrykull shouldn't be removed at all. If anything it should be make more appealing, the screen darkens, lighting strobes and a louder roar! But I kind of agree with the guys about the pointlessness (is that a word?) of the Red rings, unless they just dissolve/deactivates the explosives.

JennyGenesis 06-05-2012 02:13 AM

Its a fun challenge to try and beat the screens where you are expected to use the shrykull.

Scrabaniac 06-05-2012 02:42 AM

I think I you save grenades or rocks from previous areas you can use them to explode the bombs so you can avoid using shrykull

xXxrenhoekxXx 06-05-2012 03:04 AM

I don't want shrykall removed either,
I'm wandering why it wasn't used in muches oddysee though...

Scrabaniac 06-05-2012 03:07 AM

From the quality of the game itself I don't think shrykull would have fitted in, besides the story was more about Munch, but he had no super power like Abe's shrykull.

Phylum 06-05-2012 03:29 AM

It was going to feature originally. Munch also had a similar super form, I believe.

After all those posts you're still calling it the Shrykall.

They shouldn't remove anything that played a big part.
Explosive rings and Shrykull were a huge part.

xXxrenhoekxXx 06-05-2012 03:41 AM

damn it I knew I was spelling it wrong.

I've got an idea
in some parts of certain stages why not have reference's to future games,
like in AE feeco depo with the "coming soon Vykers labs" door.

EDIT: like have a door somewhere in Rupture farms saying "to feeco depo" but have it in the background or something.

Nepsotic 06-05-2012 04:29 AM

Depot

xXxrenhoekxXx 06-05-2012 04:39 AM

...
I swear feeco depot's called feeco depo at one point somewhere.
I should know this stuff oddworlds is my favourite game.

MeechMunchie 06-05-2012 04:42 AM

It's pronounced "deh-poh" or "dee-poh", but it's spelt with a 't'.

Nepsotic 06-05-2012 04:54 AM

Vykker

If its your favourite game, why keep getting all the spellings wrong?
Also, if you put the S on the end of Oddworld, you don't need the 'is'. I'm guessing English isn't your first language.
I like your idea though. Maybe on an LED screen every now and again you see something like Soulstorm Brew, Our spew is your brew!' and 'it'll cost ya an arm an a leg!'

xXxrenhoekxXx 06-05-2012 05:00 AM

I get it
I suck at spelling the games characters and areas.
can we move on?

Nepsotic 06-05-2012 05:01 AM

I edited it, look at it now. Its nicer.

Phylum, whats wrong with flagging someone up on a few mistakes?
