I think that seeing the muds line up to the slaughter could work if all you see is them lining up, terrified with sligs standing guard. Though perhaps that should just be an extra ending, for those who saved the very minimum or something. I dunno, but I can see the cut scene in my head, its just whether it'll bump the age rating too high.

STM 06-01-2012 03:39 AM

Yeah, AO was dark, but it was also comical, much like Shakespearean tragedies, there has to be comedy throughout because it makes the fall from grace that much more poignant, if you want it dark the entire way through, with an OTT ending, you'll just kill it.

Scrabaniac 06-01-2012 05:06 AM

There were some real dark intentions in the Art Book, i recall seeing a storyboard for the ending of the game and Molluck interrogates Abe, intimidating him by blowing his cigar smoke in his face, how come that got cut?

Slog Bait 06-01-2012 06:02 AM

It might not have fit in the budget, or they might have been running low on time? Can't say for certain and I don't know if it was ever spoken about in an interview.

Wil 06-01-2012 06:19 AM

They could have just decided they'd prefer Molluck to keep his distance and remain more pompous in his posture. Not every idea is left out with regret.

STM 06-01-2012 06:29 AM

Hell, wouldn't Abe's Oddysee be called Soulstorm if you guys had gone with every notion you had?

DesertBuzzard 06-01-2012 06:45 AM

Molluck does blow cigar smoke in Abe's face, though. When he yells "Do it!"

I thought that Abe forms a spiritual link with his ancestors when he possesses a fart. It's kind of like turning into the Shrykull, in that he drinks the brew and then releases his ancestors from within.

Scrabaniac 06-01-2012 08:12 AM

Your name DesertBuzzard reminds me, are they going to make an appearance in AbeHD? (Also in the book)

Slog Bait 06-01-2012 08:19 AM

Considering we have an abundance of known rodents in Oddworld now, I think it'd be cool if they were placed around and about. Have them scatter if another creature approaches them much like the birds in the Monsaic Lines. Not completely necessary obviously, but it'd still be a pretty need addition.

I don't really have any more input on the ending bit with the Boardroom and all.

I would love to see a lot of ambient critters - Rats in RuptureFarms, birds in the wild areas, maybe even fields of Meep in Monsaic Lines (although that wouldn't make much sense; it's just an example). There's a lot we could do to breathe life into the environments. But, y'know, that desert buzzard is kinda stupid-lookin'.

Sekto Springs 06-01-2012 08:55 AM

I'll design you a new one.
Put me on JAW's payroll.

I like this idea. Perhaps if a new Oddworld game was released in the style of AO/AE there could be a place that has vast fields in the background with loads of Meep stood around. I dunno, I just love fields.

A bit less comical?
AO is the darkest game in the entire OW catalogue.
It should have a bad ending much, much worse than Munch could ever dream of.

Read my post again. I said it should be done similar to a scene in Abe's Exoddus but less comically.. so it's in-keeping with the dark atmosphere of Oddsysee.

STM 06-01-2012 10:52 AM

If you're going to have meep in AOHD, please for the love of God make them more alien. Make them more like haggis. =D

Nepsotic 06-01-2012 11:52 AM

Who mentioned meeps? Meeps.. I can't believi OWI would come up with something that... Scientifically impossible. They've always cared dearly about their creature designs. Then they came up with the meep.

Sekto Springs 06-01-2012 12:07 PM

I thought Meeps were fucking stupid, and the herding challenge was one of the most blatant and shameless cases of length-padding in video game history. I'd rather we keep them confined to MO and not ruin AO/AE with their inclusion.

skychase2rebirth 06-01-2012 12:17 PM

I'd rather take some little bolamites hanging in dark areas. (like the birds or the glowing eyes in Paramonian temple)

Sekto Springs 06-01-2012 12:36 PM

Beyond the pigeons and the bees, I don't really think additional wildlife is necessary. I liked the lonely, solitary feel of the environments. I think making them busy with little critters would ruin that.

It might work well in the free-fire zone if it wasn't too blatant. Having undefined shadows scurrying between the tall grass, etc.

SpAM_CAN 06-01-2012 12:40 PM

Please... no bats. WORST ENEMY EVER. They bloody cheat, moving off their set path to get you. At least they are only in the nature areas... Hell, I can even stomach the bees, at least they serve a gameplay purpose by distracting Elum

MeechCrunchies 06-01-2012 01:44 PM

Even if it's just for one puzzle, I think the Elum Ray should be brought back. I'd love to see it in action. :D

JennyGenesis 06-01-2012 01:58 PM

Wasn't that simply replaced by the honey though?

I'm sure it would probably be the same to, run away and find something to get Elum away.

Pretty much this, overall. Listen to the little dribbles of wisdom that come from this blokes mouth every once in a while!

Sekto Springs 06-01-2012 03:13 PM

I'm glad my ideas are getting so much praise.
Oddworld has always felt a certain way to me, and I feel like nothing should be added to the HD version out of necessity.

Bats on thier own don't bother me, but the two puzzles in the Paramonian Temple with the swinging boulders was an absolute arseache. I shit myself whenever I come to those parts. And on the one where you don't kill the Slog, the action music starts up again when you get back onto the swinging boulder screen, as if the Slog is chasing you, though it actually isn't. It always makes me rush myself so I either get hit by a boulder or bitten by a bat. Please, for the love of god, don't bring the swinging boulders back, or at least make those sections easier, remove the bats or something.

JennyGenesis 06-01-2012 03:28 PM

They were easy as hell, just roll off the edges.

Though I must admit I did have a lot of trouble with one of them when recording my LP otherwise I find them a breeze, I must be honest, I only know about rolling off the edge because of one of the demo's.

Nepsotic 06-01-2012 03:33 PM

Yes, thats the same tactic I use. But sometimes when I climb back up onto the ledge, or when I'm in mid air rolling to the next, I'll get hit by a boulder, even though its miles away from me. I'd say it must be mine thats glitched, but I have it on PSX, PC, and PSP, and it does it on all of them. I panic as well.

Phylum 06-01-2012 03:44 PM

I've always found the collision area of the swinging boulders greatly inconsistent. Rolling and hanging often sees me getting hit.

Nepsotic 06-01-2012 03:51 PM

It must've just been a mistake in the model or level designs.

JennyGenesis 06-01-2012 03:53 PM

To be honest they look more like animations than actual objects. I could be right about them being animations, I haven't looked at them in the level editor before, I just know they are called a "Z Ball"

I would have had no clue they were dangerous if it wasn't for the demo. I dread to think how much trouble I would have had if it wasn't for that demo :p

Nepsotic 06-01-2012 04:17 PM

They are physical animations that you can come into contact with, I don't know what the word is.
