Is it just me or is anyone else constantly getting a shitty jungle on every new world now? I haven't found a decent world since I either get a jungle or a flat, boring forest. Extreme Hills is nice but I'd prefer if it was closer to the water, possibly some beaches? If Minecraft actually had beaches anymore...
|
Your not along. Almost all of my new worlds start out in a Jungle Biome and I hate them. There a pain in the arse to try and navigate though and they make my game even more laggy.
|
Mine get pretty laggy too, and speaking of Extreme Hills biomes near water. I tried oddworld as a seed and got exactly that. Shame there's no beaches though, but I guess that's because they don't seem to exist.

Turn fast leaves on. Forests make my FPS drop down to something stupid like 80 down from >120.
If you have Optifine you can do that without turning everything else to fast graphics. Also, if you don't have Optifine and play Minecraft you've been living under a rock or something. |
OptiFine has been extremely buggy recently for me and some people I know. Mine isn't so bad but on three other Minecrafts, it flickers the chunks all the time and it gets really annoying. Sort of like it's constantly loading them over and over.
For me, OptiFine usually says stuff like 120-160FPS when in reality its more like 30-40FPS. I get a much smoother and stable game with regular Minecraft running at 60-70FPS. Jungles aren't horrendous, but you can notice the slight few skipped frames when turning. |
In Optifine do you use mutli-core chunk loading? Do you have Thread Optimisation settings enabled in your Graphics Control Panel? Other than that, set the FPS to unlimited, because other settings can be weird about things.
|
I don't what settings they had, one of the laptops was almost identical to mine but had the issue, but I know that the Minecraft settings were basically the same as mine.
I did have multi-core chunk loading and Max FPS on, it's a weird thing though. I could have more stuff turned on like further render distance and a high resolution texture-pack with little to no change in FPS. The problem was that the FPS it stayed at wasn't completely smooth, it was a slightly skippy kind of framerate. On another note, one of the laptops that gets the flickering issue also gets 300-400 FPS on vanilla Minecraft. It has vista as well it really bugs me. |
Optifine makes my game playable. It's a mess without it.
|
I don't even know if I can install it now, I have Minecraft Forge on mine because I got fed up with all the jungle biomes and generic terrain. There's a mod called Better World Generator 4 or something that lets you generate worlds from like beta, alpha and infdev. I've been playing on the alpha ones mainly.
|
Wouldn't running Minecraft at >60fps make the game actually look worse on a 60hz display?
|
It looked somehow smoother than 60-80 did, it's hard to explain but it looked like stuff was moving faster. I thought Minecraft capped the framerate.
|
Finally been able to play multiplayer with my best friend in Holland. Maybe his new router is the reason!

So I said before about the new world generation always being jungles, the server I have ended up giving me what seemed like an endless snow plains with about 2 trees and 3 sheep. No other animals, and was probably the worst world I've ever had. I tried something else and ended up with this:
http://i.imgur.com/21TGJu2.png [fyi: WorldEdit wand has nothing to do with the terrain] http://i.imgur.com/eLzeaCt.png It's now pretty much that, but everywhere. It's awesome. |
I've been playing a bit of Minecraft on my mate's server and I really don't enjoy it as much as I did. I find the game really dull and boring despite all these newish features that I've just learnt about. Maybe it's because I've ran out of things to do, or maybe it's the actual game. Perhaps I should try some Mods or Adventure maps, I would try Tekkit again but that just turns too complicated.
I don't know how YouTubers who make daily Minecraft videos do it... |
You should try messing around with the Terrain Control mod, you can generate some really cool stuff with it. It allows you to change nearly all generation options.
And the most important: stop jungles spawning. |

A new version of Tekkit was released recently, perhaps more streamlined than previous versions but missing some of the cornerstone mods which made the previous versions great, such as RedPower 2 and IndustrialCraft.
I'm yet to try it out, but it does look fun. Now is a good time to try Tekkit out again if you haven't been back to it for a while, anyway. |
Removing IndustrialCraft sounds like a weird idea. Those machines were kinda the most interesting things for me (and probably for many others) in Tekkit.
Also: what is this. http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs70/i/20...ig-d62vl3f.png |
It made me think of Midgar but I can't explain the floating jobbies.
|
It's also very clearly in space.
|
There was that as well.
|
Asgard?
|
Is anyone else getting it where Minecraft generates a weird part of land/underground area where stone is entirely absent leaving floating ores, dirt and fallen gravel? It looks ugly as hell and I even found one on the unmodified world on my server, but it's under the ocean.
Some fucked up world generator it seems, only happened since 1.5 whatever. I had one time it deleted all stone from a whole cliff on single player. |
|
Gosh after watching that, I didn't realise how much I miss the server. I had my best moments in Minecraft on there.
nowadays I don't play it at all. |
What kind of timeframe do we have on part 4?
Now that I don't have anyone to play with I barely touch MC any more either. I'm keen to try out some mod ideas, but I'm still waiting on the API. |
I want to try and edit all the parts in the next two weeks. But I'm working on some other big stuff as well so I can't make any promises.
|
Jeb is working on new biome generation features.
Clay hills, not sold on this yet. ![]() These forests have a new type of soil, which basically looks like dirt and won't allow grass to grow on it. ![]() Cliffs. ![]() |
