Bullet Magnet 04-08-2013 01:49 PM

He's in in the game development business now. His life is one perplexing hardware/software problem after another.

Wil 04-08-2013 05:06 PM

Don't forget the red tape and marketing!

Git'Im 04-09-2013 11:07 AM

Minecraft for android has cut back on quite a lot of shit what makes me angry.

No enchanting too..da fuk?

Crashpunk 04-09-2013 11:52 AM

It's cut back for a reason, They can't just simply port Minecraft onto a Mobile phone, the game is far too large.

Git'Im 04-09-2013 12:02 PM

Nonsense

Well they are trying to add things like monsters etc. It doesn't help that it takes an eternity to port something and they rely on external teams to do that, the 360 version is miles behind the PC in terms of updates. Also your PC can run Bioshock Infinite and Skyrim and can handle huge worlds with hundreds of monsters, your phone... not so much.

Right, that's a fair comparison.

Hardware related problem => poor coding???

Hardware can't possibly be the limiting factor in displaying a certain color... last I checked every smartphone could produce a couple of miliion colors easily.

Phylum 04-10-2013 12:59 AM

Of course it can display the colour. It's definitely not that kind of hardware limitation.

It seems more bizarre to me that there would be some weird software limitation stopping them from rendering something in a certain colour.

Also, Minecraft PE is all but a different game. It's not cut back, it's being built up. Same goes for the 360 version, but they don't have to worry about redesigning the game for a touchscreen.

As was my original point. With Minecraft's shitty coding it wouldn't surprise me if they messed it up so bad that this actually does happen and they chose to fix it with yet more duct tape and strings instead of fixing the root of the problem.

Phylum 04-15-2013 01:13 AM

But isn't PE reworked from the ground up by people other than Notch?

Havoc 04-15-2013 02:33 AM

I don't know? Is it?

Wil 04-15-2013 02:45 AM

Notch hasn't worked on Minecraft in ages as far as I'm aware. It's Jeb and Dinnerbone primarily. But the Pocket Edition is being worked on in-house.

Funnily enough, it's made in C++, the thing everyone wishes desktep Minecraft were written in.

Phylum 04-15-2013 03:03 AM

Notch hasn't had anything to do with PC Minecraft since just after 1.0, and never had anything to do with PE.

What I don't know is how much of the PE code is based off what Notch wrote.

Crashpunk 04-16-2013 12:01 AM

Jeb and Dinnerbone have done a lot for Minecraft but I kinda wish Notch was still working on it. Maybe he's just sick of the game?

Havoc 04-16-2013 06:47 AM

He's got money, he dun care.

Manco 04-16-2013 08:50 AM

It's better this way. Notch had a good concept but his code is, by all accounts, awful.

Phylum 04-16-2013 05:40 PM

I think this means that Jeb has stepped down from regular Minecraft to work on PE. He doesn't really say if he has any plans to go back.

RoryF 04-27-2013 03:23 PM

So me and a few friends discovered /kit notch.

And someone might have just used it with //brush clipboard as well.
Just a little bit...

Yes, we fixed it, there was a very large //regen done.

Phylum 04-27-2013 04:18 PM

What?

RoryF 04-27-2013 04:22 PM

We were messing around with WorldEdit stuff near a house (which wasn't touched). For some reason /kit notch gives you a Steve head, but when used for anything, it turns into Notch's head. Might be something essentials does, I certainly didn't do anything.

Phylum 04-27-2013 05:21 PM

You can have heads of anyone's player through editing NBT tags since the Pretty Scary Update.

It was the plugin commands you were using that confused me. What the fuck is /kit ?

RoryF 04-27-2013 05:50 PM

/kit is some command that you get with Essentials, basically you can make it so people can automatically get certain item loadouts with names like /kit tools would give the player all items in group "tools" (usually wood set).

I tried /kit oddman360 to see if I could get my own head, but it doesn't work. I'm assuming its hard coded into the plugin.

Two more things, 1 of them, is this:

And lastly for an instant desert temple spawn next to a taiga biome, I got this seed, 1917356437, from the other day. I certainly hope I wrote that down right.

Dig below the TNT area for caves as well. :)

Phylum 04-27-2013 06:19 PM

From what I just Google searched, kit definitions wouldn't handle something dynamic like choosing a different head based on the name of the kit call, but Essentials does handle item spawning with more than just basic metadata paramaters.

I feel that since Notch stopped contribution the game development team has lost it's direction and now resemble people who don't know what they want.
"Oooh look, Witches! Oooh look, Horses!"

There are some good Minecraft mods out there but a fair portion of them are:
- Hard to install (Have too many steps or involve messing too much with files)
- Out of date (Refuse to work if the game is even slightly out of date)
- Crash/Break if other mods are used (sometimes for unexplained reasons)

I would prefer better support for game modifications and higher res texture packs. I can't help shake the feeling that I don't play Minecraft as much as I used to.

Phylum 04-28-2013 12:47 AM

High res texture packs are now supported by the new stitching method of 1.5, but old texture packs don't work. The modding API has been in the works forever, but when it's released it will see much better cross-mod compatibility (maybe), and definitely be less work for modders updating between versions. I would like to say no work updating between versions, but I'm being realistic.

If anything Jeb and Dinnerbone found direction after the game started to wander a bit in 1.9/1.0. Witches are pretty rare, but are an interesting encounter when you find them, although I will admit they aren't my favourite thing in game. Horses, however, are fantastic and actually make traveling long distances regularly feasible without a ridiculous railway system like the one on the OWF server.

Also, you neglected to mention mob AI rewrite(s), mod spawning alterations (in the works), jungle/desert temples, villager trading, The Wither, everything in 1.5 and all of the other really good things that have been added to the game since Notch left.

dripik 04-28-2013 01:02 AM

You did not just call the server train system ridiculous. It was a masterpiece worth of many many hours of dedication, just so that people can go around the place in style.

Unless by that you meant that the railway system was incredibly huge. Which it was.

About the update... Well, there are some cool things there, but I don't really feel like playing the game anymore. Beside having a lot less time for gaming, there are other reasons as well, including some pretty cool-looking titles which will come out in the nearish future.

One particular game I'm looking forward to is Starbound. Think of Terraria with a sci-fi theme and a whole galaxy to explore.

Phylum 04-28-2013 01:17 AM

Ridiculous was more about the amount of resources than the scale. I dread to think how much gold went into those booster rails. The brick tunnel was especially glorious.

The only Minecraft I have time to play right now is a bit of Yogcraft, and that's only for the BEES.

Starbound looks fantastic.

RoryF 04-28-2013 04:48 AM

That railway place used to lag my old computer up so hard it took about 5 attempts to even get through the lowering fences at the entrance...

Wil 04-29-2013 05:30 AM

Feed the Beast for the win. All those mods, all working in sync. Mostly.

YogCraft is ridiculous. It's FTB with all the FTB taken out. Better than nothing, but just why would you exclude all that extra gameplay possibility? Seems very strange to me.
