So despite doing everything in their power across time and space to stop the Doctor or River from ever reaching Trenzalore and speaking the Doctor's name, the actual event itself happened to fall on a Sunday or something and the Silence were too busy getting a manicure to bother saving all of existence.

Instead, the ones trying to grab the Doctor before he could reach his tomb were the Whispermen... even though their goal was to get him there in the first place. Then River let the Great Intelligence in because ????. Then there was a sort of portal thing to the Doctor's timeline because ????. Then the Doctor didn't want Clara to save all of existence because ????. Then the Doctor revealed he always could see River because ????.

The the Doctor's secret was revealed: At some point in the future he does something he pregrets. That's it. He already seems to know it, and that it was done for benevolent reasons. That could be interesting. I'm not holding my breath.

This is what Moffat has been leading towards this whole time? This is the epic conclusion to more than three years of story threading and world building?

I honestly can't begin to think how to close this post. I could try something interesting or well-crafted, but if Moffat can't be bothered why the fuck should I? I'll just keep rambling incoherent bullshit and wait for my BAFTAs.

Nepsotic 05-18-2013 04:40 PM

I don't know what the fuck happened, to be honest, and I dont think I care anymore.

Nate 05-18-2013 07:57 PM

Pretty much what Wil said.

My first thought at the end of the episode was that they've got a fantastic actor and an intruiging premise; I'm excited for the next series.

But then, they'd probably bugger it up like all the other intruiging premises in recent years.

Phylum 05-19-2013 02:53 AM

Ugh.

The episode was kind of interesting I guess, even if it jumped all over the place and was stupid. I wanted to shoot myself every time there was a forced scene to remind us that the lizard is a lesbian.

Everything Wil said.

Also, if Clara only knows 11 Doctors can we assume that Moffat is going to attempt to kill him off Once and For All?

Crashpunk 05-19-2013 03:26 AM

So I've heard a lot of rumours that Doctor at the end.

He is a in-between incarnation between the 8th and 9th or he could be the actual ninth Doctor making Eccleston the tenth. In other words, he's the doctor that fought in the Time War.

Personally, I don't know what to believe. The Doctor did something awful in any case, so maybe he's been keeping this incarnation a secret for a reason.

STM 05-19-2013 03:29 AM

I don't remembered the Doctor 'thwarting the intelligence at every oppurtunity', in fact I'm pretty sure I've only heard of it in one episode so I just wonder why he's such an influential and important antagonist.

Nepsotic 05-19-2013 03:48 AM

I couldn't even remember who he was. Just a pisspoor forgettable villain.

Yeah, that was my thought. Seems too obvious, though. And while the Doctor isn't proud of what he did in the Time War, he's never really been so ashamed as to disassociate himself from it.

Twice in the last season and, if memory serves me correctly, twice in the original series run.

Nepsotic 05-19-2013 08:44 AM

I don't recall. Can you refresh my memory?

STM 05-19-2013 08:59 AM

Google probably could.

Wil 05-19-2013 09:16 AM

http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Great_Intelligence

Not exactly a nobody villain, but for something that supposedly pre-dates the universe, you'd think its final FU to the Doctor would be something a little cleverer than "Gather lots of people who would give their life to save the Doctor in the one place they can do that."

Regarding the Mystery Doctor, I don't understand how he never showed up in Clara's journey through the Doctor's life just because he did something 'not in the name of the Doctor'. Except, then, he does show up. Because ????.

Crashpunk 05-19-2013 11:19 AM

Oh look. A teaser poster.

C'mon November, get here faster!
Abe HD, and now the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who! Gosh, I cannot wait.

Nepsotic 05-19-2013 01:15 PM

That logo is so fucking cheesy, it's almost as bad as the 'DW'. Also, is it just me, or does it look like his head has been Photoshopped on?

No, I wondered it too. I almost posted as much, but I couldn't bring myself not to follow it up with 'Is that even official?', went off to check, and promptly forgot about it.

It was blissful forgetance.

Phylum 05-19-2013 07:01 PM

The 50th special airs on the day I leave for Europe.

I'm going to have to avoid the internet from then until I get back and can illegally download it.

Nate 05-20-2013 03:02 AM

The jpeg artifacts around 'November' suggest to me that it isn't official.

Also, if he really is the Doctor, then he's only going to have one costume. And that isn't it.

Crashpunk 05-20-2013 04:42 AM

Sorry all. I just saw that image get posted on Facebook so I assumed it was official.

Anyway, The costume looks brand new to me. It does look like he's wearing the 9th Doctor's leather coat but it looks a bit different.

See the differences.

I can't see anything that looks like the 8th doctor's costume so maybe that theory of the in-between doctors is out the window then.

Just caught up with Doctor Who. Thought that Nightmare in Silver was a pretty decent episode, some interesting technology and compelling characters. The Name of The Doctor seemed good as well. They do sort of force these 'huge plot revelations' onto the audience which is a bit frustrating and I wish they'd stop saying the phrase "Doctor... Who?" We get it. Move on please.

PS I especially liked Strax' lines. He's such a great character :)
Overall, wicked and looking forward to more.

After already enduring criticisms that the show has become a hedonistic bacchanal of snogging, Doctor Who is now under fire for being “thunderously racist”—a type of racism far worse than the scattered showers of drizzling racism that may occasionally be a nuisance, but shouldn’t affect your weekend plans. This argument forms the basis of a new book titled Doctor Who And Race, which collects essays from various academics who were shocked to find numerous examples of racism in the show when they went looking for them specifically.
Full article.

Nepsotic 05-30-2013 03:25 PM

It used to be racist back when everything else was. A prime example I remember is on "The Talons of Weng-Chiang', all the villians are Chinese and majorly stereotyped, and the Doctor mentions something about 'being beaten up by little yellow fellows', which is pretty funny. To be honest, it's more naivety than racism.

STM 05-30-2013 04:08 PM

What a load of bollocks. I was going to say it's like when old women complain to the OED because the found 'fuck' in there, you know, the 'don't look for it if it offends you argument'. Then I thought, it's not even that, they had to really make a stretch for some of those stupid points.

Nepsotic 05-30-2013 04:26 PM

I only just now read the article, looks like a load of bullshit.

OANST 05-31-2013 06:46 AM

Regardless, Doctor Who is a fucking terrible show.

STM 05-31-2013 07:23 AM

You're a fucking terrible show.

Varrok 05-31-2013 07:38 AM

I agree with both of you.

OANST 05-31-2013 10:23 AM

I'm the worst show ever.

Wings of Fire 05-31-2013 12:48 PM

I stopped watching after the Taco Bell episode.

OANST 05-31-2013 12:50 PM

You have to admit that was an exciting episode, though. Poorly written, but action packed.

Wings of Fire 05-31-2013 12:57 PM

I felt that was when it jumped the shark really. Plus, Abbey is my favourite character and she never appears anymore. It's just this crotchety bastard bragging about his sex life week in week out and occasionally telling everyone else how shit they are.

It's getting a drag to watch.

Nepsotic 05-31-2013 01:10 PM

I missed that episode. The Taco Bell one.

Nate 05-31-2013 06:16 PM

I missed that episode. The Taco Bell one.

It was shit. I hate it when tv shows script an ending, but then get renewed for another season so they need to backpedal and retcon it out.

Varrok 05-31-2013 10:51 PM

I hated it when the producer decided to change the actress playing OANST's girlfriend. Like, fifteen times. It's hard to watch different people while pretending they're the same character. Also, main protagonist is a douche ;)

Nepsotic 06-01-2013 03:02 AM

Yeah, and he's totally on steroids. You can tell becaise he used to be really fat, but then lost it all in like a month.
Also, I think mods should split this into a new thread.

Wings of Fire 06-01-2013 03:27 AM

I refuse to make or otherwise create a joke thread about OANST's life.

Again.

Nepsotic 06-01-2013 04:09 AM

Are you talking about his penis thread?

AlexFili 06-01-2013 08:53 AM

I've been watching Doctor Who Series 1 (Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor). Pretty good so far. I can get that same enthusiasm that Matt Smith exudes with his manic smiles and silly (but funny) comments

Nate 06-01-2013 07:02 PM

I liked Matt Smith, but it's probably time to move on.

I would love it if John Hurt took over permanently.

EDIT: It just occurred to me that Clara said she saw 11 Doctors when passing through the timeline. That suggests that it was the 11th Doctor who died permanently in the Fields of Trensilor. Or that Steven Moffat is terrible at forward continuity.

Bullet Magnet 06-01-2013 07:41 PM

Maybe she only interacted with the first eleven, or some timey-wimey stuff erased knowledge from the future of their shared timeline.

She seemed pretty sure she had seen the Doctor's entire timeline. That's why she was surprised to see John Hurt.
