Well, me, Splat, Ridg3, Max and Ench all tried the first Survivor Island... Which I filmed. We had fun but it kinda failed when no mobs spawned at night (and one or two of us broke the rules about not placing blocks... lol). Eventually Ench had to kite some to the island, and not one of us died.

I'll post the film a lot later since processing it to find the highlights will take ages and I don't have time at the moment - Movie Maker has an option to brighten clips so you'll be able to see what's going on (even if the text will be harder to read).

Was a bit disappointing since it was a bit of preparation for not very much. At least it was still fun though.

I'm sure if we got rid of the tall grass, that would help. Sure mobs may have spawned there in the past, but I'll bet that's just chance. Since I filled the meadow with tall grass, mobs rarely spawn in it.

I know what we did wrong.

We need a larger island - I've made the island a bit larger (took me 10 minutes with the dirt from the base, hooray I found a use for it), and mobs are spawning now.

We could use mob spawners. A small cobblestone castle at one end of the island, with a skeleton spawner on the roof and a few zombie spawners inside, perhaps? Or would that make it less scary?

What about surrounding the island with offshore mob spawners?

Mob spawners still require a player-free space to spawn mobs, I believe. That thing about the castle has given me an idea.

A large, complicated stone castle with a few mob spawners inside. Forget the island. It could be a night in a haunted mansion or something.

Okay Splat, stupidly on my part at the cost of my time, I've fixed your game for you. :) First, my suggestion is to change the rules to the following (suggested changes are in red & bold):


And a note for this rule, maybe a chest should be full of wheat/bread from the main base and one of us will have to restock that occasionally.

Staying on the beach is important - If players roam the island at night, nothing will spawn which will invalidate the challenge. For this the entire island has been made larger to allow things to spawn and trees have been grown to provide cover for mobs, which works well.

I can't solo this challenge (I tried twice to test it, I can punch one mob to death but get overwhelmed by more - They come find me even when I stand still on the very edge of the beach) but I would like to try it again with a group of people. :D Should be a lot more fun now.

Nope, because otherwise you could walk into a dungeon and be safe.

The thing about mob spawners is that you'd have to cheat to implement them - And it's hit or miss whether they work or not in SMP.

But I've fixed it - Provided people stay on the beach and don't roam the island. It's a simple rule to follow.

NP - I can't do the next 2 nights, but let me know how it went.

It seems one of the group may have to occasionally run off the beach into the wooded area to pull mobs to them - On my third attempt, only after waiting around for half the night did mobs start coming toward me even though many of them spawned. Still seems to be a little bit hit and miss - Perhaps the Island needs to be extended around the beach, like a horseshoe?

Perhaps I'll work on that later depending on your success.

If somebody wants to take all my stuff from my house, that's fine, I don't really plan on playing anymore multiplayer. You can also destroy my house.

It turns out my username is lovelaceIII, not lovelaceiii. I've been logging in fine with lowercase i, but maybe the whitelist needs them to be uppercase.

I don't think upper or lowercase letters matter for the whitelist, but I'll add the uppercase one just to be sure. If you still can't join it's something on your end. Make sure you add the port number behind the server IP.

Ok, now it says I'm not whitelisted. This is just like what happened when I tried to buy the game. It's as if cosmic forces don't want me to play it.

Sorry that this has been such a hassle, but could you check this out?

Yeah. It's working now. I had it open twice by mistake.

It was a bit of a disastrous start, what with me detonating a creeper next to the well near the mill whilst inside Genesis, albeit just. I think I was in the middle of a lag spike.

In other news, I've attempted to join the server, but it says I'm not white listed, even though Havoc told me I was. This is sad news.

Is it possible that it's something on my side preventing my entry to the realm of OWF-Craft?

Oh yeah Havoc, if you're okay with them could you get newcomers to give the unofficial, not-set-in-stone guidelines a readthrough before they start playing, so at least they're aware of them without having to trawl through loads of posts to find them? I changed them a bit to make more sense/be less authoritative.

Yeah but it doesn't seem to work - Unless I'm mistaken. But it's best to not go AFK in the first place rather than have to wait for those 2 minutes to kick in during night time.

Yeah I'm not sure if it works either. I might change it to an AFK kicker soon if AFKing keeps being a problem.

I actually meant you PM them the link every time they request to be added to the whitelist to save them trawling through the thread for it, which most of them won't unless they've been reading until now, so won't be aware, but meh, whatever. Server is quiet at this time anyway.

I fixed it though, don't worry. :) And before you ask I recently set up traps for the mobs that follow me off the beach into my castle - Been gathering lots of gunpowder that way.

yeah i saw :) but the thing is that you have to put the repeaters at highest delay so that the cannon actually busts something ;)

EDIT: i fixed the repeater delay,now you can total that mountain.
