oddguy 07-25-2003 09:12 AM

This Q just came to me out of nowhere! Do you guys think it would be dumb to have an Oddworld convention? I would like to hang with more ODD people, but I never saw myself as the convention type. Just too treky! :p I do know that if there was an Oddworld convention, I'd go. I wouldn't mind meeting all you chumps! :D

Sekto Springs 07-25-2003 10:52 AM

i'm sure there has been an oddworld convention before oddguy, but until the new game comes out i dont think there's enough publicity.

paramiteabe 07-25-2003 04:00 PM

I think it would be really cool to meet all of ya at a convention someday. We at least would know each other more and finally be a community outside of the internet. I think its a fabulas idea myself.

Anway my question is can other Mudokons possess other than just Abe?

paramud 07-25-2003 05:27 PM

I've heard someone in my appartment complex is planning to make an oddworld convention... don't know where he'll get the money though but if he does make one I'll tell you...

LuLu_Fund 07-25-2003 07:07 PM

What sorta Mudokon is Abe? Is his category known JUST as a floorwaxer?

Oddsville 07-25-2003 09:47 PM

Well Abe was in the "Scrub" class of Mudokon during the duration of AO but now he can be considered in the "Free'd worker" class but Im not sure whether he should be considered a Native, some type of Shaman class (he dosen't seem to have any of the normal markings) or a "Savior" class?

Sekto Springs 07-25-2003 10:03 PM

well, actually, seeing how Abe was employee of the year, i think he's promoted higher than a scrub. remember, scrubs are the lowest of the low in status, abe got to wax the board room floor, now thats a promotion.

Well, it seems to me that different mudokons have different gifts and powers. In AO there's the guy who gives you the destructo-ring and in AE there's the mud who gives you the healing-ring. There may be others who have the power to possess, but they aren't the chosen one like Abe.

TheKhanzumer 07-26-2003 04:38 PM

other muds...

I think that any spiritually enlightened mudokons can leave their physical body behind while they meditate, but only Abe can actually enter the body of another living thing.

I think of the mudokons' abilities like the Force in Star Wars since that is the easiest comparison. If they are one with the Spooce, they can learn different "magic" abilities. Some mudokons are more skilled than others and they all can learn different abilities. Levitation during meditation seems to be common trait but rarer "powers" are teleportation (Bigface) and the ability to give others a special power that the mudokon itself cannot harness like the mudokons you mentioned.

oddguy 07-27-2003 01:46 AM

Lorne also said that muds aren't exactly clear on thier religion and their past. I think that if muds were able to find what they're missing from their past, they could harness even more amazing powers than we've ever seen before! Maybe that is Abe's true destiny...to unlock the powers from the past.

Wil 07-27-2003 09:04 AM

Their powers, maybe. There's a production image of a portal at Oddworld.com (under Necrum) that fits your idea nicely. That would be nice to see, them uncovering their past and being able to develop their own abilities by rediscovering them, but just to say, regarding religion they won't be so satisfied. They will uncover their forgotten beliefs, but will find that they're ultimately superfluous, and will come to realise that it is through compassion and knowledge of the self that they can transcend death and become truely enlightened.

GrigtheSlig 07-27-2003 08:36 PM

:crying: It sounds so wonderful!!! Anyway, can you tell me anything you know about Meeches, I think they are so cool and I don't know much about them.

Oddsville 07-28-2003 01:27 PM

Well I personally don't know much about Meech's but as for Max and Khanz...

But while we wait for them I'll tell you what I do know. I know that Meeches tend to like dry and warm climates (they roamed Scrabania at one time but not in that great of numbers as to get it called Meechania.), not too sure if they like other climates better or just didn't care all together. I know that they where fast pack animals that like to hunt good sized prey such as the Elum, and that they most likely had great speed.

Max also told us once that their was a tribe called the "Mudancho" which was the Meech version of the Mudomo and Mudanchee. I did manage to find a site on the Mudancho but it just breifly mentioned them and not much else.

I wish I knew more but Im not at Guru level's of Oddworld Knowledge like the other two.:fuzwink:

TheKhanzumer 07-28-2003 06:56 PM

Meeches

They have three jaws. I suppose that implies they have two mouths. Maybe they do different things. I don't know.

There isn't really much we know about meeches other than what Oddsville already said, or is obvious.

Oh, and they taste good too.

Dipstikk 07-28-2003 07:37 PM

I thought they had four jaws.

Well, there's a re-write in chapter three for ya.

TheKhanzumer 07-28-2003 09:00 PM

Three jaws, but one is both a top and bottom jaw I guess. Four isn't exactly inaccurate... Until we see a live one we won't really know how their mouth functions.

Wil 07-29-2003 04:54 PM

Lorne says four...

But then that was awhile ago, their design might be altered.

MrBoj 07-29-2003 09:41 PM

bah, the size od Oddworld should be cleared up by OWI once and for all dangit! ah well.

well, with the question of possession, can one Mud possess another Mud? In fact, does possession mean killing the person being possessed? What if Abe doesn't want to implode any slig in particular?

TheKhanzumer 07-29-2003 10:18 PM

Possession is mysterious and powerful and I'm sure it can be done (by those who can) in many different ways and to many different levels of skill. If Abe wanted to possess a mudokon he probably could unless they have some biological or spiritual ward against it. And depossession does not always kill things. Abe probably just kills the sligs cause he doesn't want them to go tell anyone that they got possessed.

So meeches have officially four jaws. Suppose that is true really, even if two are on opposite sides of the same... mouthpart.

Wil 07-30-2003 11:13 AM

Mudokons cannot possess other Mudokons, period. OWI claim that would be too weird. Frankly, I agree. If Abe doesn't want to explode a Slig having possessed one, then he doesn't have to. A system that would control how much you injured the Slig while depossessing was to have been implemented into MO, as part of the quarma-factor to not kill a single thing throughout the entire game, but never made it.

oddguy 07-30-2003 10:28 PM

I agree! Possessing your friends is way too freaky! It would be kinda intersesting in an argument......make someone say what they didn't want to say.....I imagine that that would start lots of violence!

GrigtheSlig 07-31-2003 03:10 AM

What do you mean, I possess my friends all the time!
:

Abe probably just kills the sligs cause he doesn't want them to go tell anyone that they got possessed.
I think that Abe doesn't have to implode sligs! Abe possessed Gluks and didn't kill them. And when they(the Gluks)said that something happened to them, the newspapers just made fun of them, like when that glukkon said that "and invisible ghost" made him donate to LULU FUNDS.

oddguy 08-01-2003 11:41 AM

Very true Grig. I'm just hoping that depossession options will make it in a future game!

TheKhanzumer 08-01-2003 03:30 PM

It would be cool to leave them brain damaged, but alive. Then they could be easily manipulated to help you willingly. They would be mental retards and therefore very gullible and easily persuaded to help Abe and the other mudokons. Could be very interesting gameplay and moral dilemmas.

GrigtheSlig 08-01-2003 10:19 PM

But I bet it'd give you bad Quarma, cause that'd be like using a retard to commit crimes... from the glukkons Point of view.

That is quite an interesting idea you guys are talking about. Question is, can you get good quarma by converting sligs etc. into tree-hugging world-loving happy creatures(?!)? Maybe the way you depossess/manipulate the enemy results to a completely different story progression altogether concerning them and their effect to your Oddworld, right to the end of the game. Maybe you have to go BACK levels for correction in order to advance to other levels??

oddguy 08-02-2003 11:07 PM

I do like the converting sligs idea, because deep down we all know that Sligs have souls that need saving! And if you wanna be mean, you can leave em' brain damaged and retarded! Brilliant!

GrigtheSlig 08-02-2003 11:28 PM

Hey, I'd comvert Sligs if I had to, I think that sligs would be really loyal and protective if you saved them!

I have a question...can sligs use their mouths to write their names!

oddguy 08-03-2003 03:38 AM

You know that trap that captures Munch? Well, I saw a couple sorces that calles it a bear trap. Umm, I didn't know Oddworld had bears. Oh....and in the IGN interview with Munch, he calls it a Scrab trap. More likely. Did OWI change the name in the middle or what?

Wil 08-03-2003 08:40 AM

They changed the name. See, I sent an email to Alf, and he answered it in Dear Alf...

:

Q: Munch broke his leg in a bear trap right, does that mean there are bears on Oddworld?

Alf: Bears? Jeez, I guess there could be bears. You're right, I mean why would someone lay a bear trap if there were no bears? It's ridiculous!
After that, they always refered to it as a Scrab trap. :D
