Guys, lay off pupbenny. He's entitled to think what he likes, as long as he doesn't pretend it's anything other than his own opinion.

I voted for Fangus set on oddworld as in Lorne's original vision. I think it's because I had Lorne pitching it for me and Wil when we met him and it's a sight that I can never forget.
Also it's kind of sad to see people voting for "something completely new" as that would mean none of those other ideas interest them. |
I think it would be epic if you guys did a game like Temple Run; Except you're Abe being chased by a choice of creatures: Scrabs/Paramites/Slogs/Sligs in a choice of environments: Rupturefarms/Scrabania/Paramonia/Free Fire Zone etc i'd buy into that!
|
You mean you would rather have an unoriginal copy of a story-less game instead of the next chapter of the quitology?
|
we aren't even heading for a new chapter in the quintology, it's just endless remakes of things we have already seen and done.
|
My bad, I had the impression Munch's Exoddus and Squeek's Oddysee were options in the "what would you like to see next" poll

I don't think so, because I think 'something completely new', means something completely new. Like, new.

Don't you remember when they came out a few years ago?
|
No, but they're old ideas, and if they're going to work on "something completely new" I'd assume it's a new idea. That's all.
|
They might be old ideas but no gameplay was ever created. It will be a completely new game based on a old idea.
And any new Oddworld games coming out in the future will all be considered old ideas in Lorne's mind. :) |
There should've been an 'anything but a mobile game' option. ANYTHING
|
I assumed "something completely new" was an umbrella option for people who couldn't decide.
Besides, not every who's voting knows about everything that happens behind the scenes. Sometimes you just can't be bothered to look this stuff up, either, so in the end if you just want to see something new, it doesn't matter what it ends up being as long as it's new. |
I think Munch's Exoddus is the best way. Purely because, of course, MO was originally going to be so much more, wasn't it? An Exoddus seems like a good way of proving that the poor old Gabbit CAN be popular with fans, as well as perhaps expand Oddworld in some interesting areas eg meeting Sam. This will be a risk, though, since I know many fans didn't like MO so much and perhaps would be put off. Decisions, decisions!
|
I wonder if the guys from OWI/JAW are really going to focus exclusively on the winner of that poll or if it's just a test to see the potential interest for those titles.

Market research.

If something completely new should be really completely new (not based on any title on poll list) I would suggest game like:
Game could be based around something more than industrials, natives. Our main character is in some way user (or devoted) to black/dark/voodoo magic. Yes - magic. I can see in my mind milions of colorful ideas from Lorne and Jaw about "magic side" of Oddworld. And obviously, Im not talking about native magic. Im not even talking about Oddworld wizzard. Main character could be Mudokon, but - a little bit "evolved" in body shape because of demonic/dark magic. Darker powers always changing their users. I can see a character with many tattoos, black-purple skin with some scars (maybe on face). Eyes a little bit white/blind, glowing with energy when magic is in use. That character could summon some dark minions, maybe even demons(!) Imagine Oddworld-demons or astral creatures created by Lorne. That is really interesting to imagine. Our main guy could be some a member of some "warlock-society" or be just a renegade Mudokon who falls in darker sides of magic. With that story, game could be REALLY NEW because of the main character. Our guy could see more than normal being because of voodoo/astral practics. Imagine Oddworld with some more subtle creatures as weird ghosts, demons and more enlightened beings. Our character could step in normal world and in "astral" world by special chanting or even killing creatures in ceremonies(!) Or seeing more of ghost-world by using some spells by collecting herbs in the wild. Herbs could be prepared or be eaten/smoked. Abilities of main character could touch the manipulating, summoning, destroying, mind-torture, hypnosis and so on. Character could see mind-changing of enemies, their thoughts. Imagine spell which can change some (for example) enemy dreams (slig?) After awakening, enemy goes to other and starts shooting or making something for our good. What could be the point of that story? There are many options, because alter-world (or spiritual world) makes game more wider for possibilities. Spiritual setting with voodoo theme and many crazy ideas is in my modest opinion a theme for badass Oddworld game. And - so much fresh, I cant even imagine hundreds of ideas. |
That's why I wanted Faerietales to be an option.
