I dragged myself out of bed at about midday, subjected my flat to a heavy-duty cleanup, baked a cake in my new breadmachine, fucked up taking the cake out of the tin so that what I actually had was delicious blobs of cake, made some home-made pasta for my sister and niece, cleaned up afterwards and played some Machinarium. 'twas a good day.

I got two pocket watches. Two!

I demand pictures!

At the risk of propagating a side-topic that would need to be split off in to a 'Pocket Watches Are Awesome!' thread, I have a pocket watch too. Sadly, despite Pilot's best efforts, it's unfixably broken. But it sure looks pretty.

I also considered buying one of these, but the stainless steel casing just looks kinda cheap. If it was silver (or silver-plated), I'd have grabbed one in a shot.

MeechMunchie 12-26-2011 06:44 AM

My sister also got a pocket watch...

Seriously, what's going on?

STM 12-26-2011 07:11 AM

I bought three books for my kindle, which should keep me interested for some time:

Colour of Magic: Discworld - something I've been meaning to get for ages
Lord of the Rings I
War and Peace

My only qualm is rather than page numbers and chapters, the kindle tells you how far you've gone through the book as a percentage, it's something I'll need to get used to. Other than that it really is an amazing piece of apparatus.

Wil 12-26-2011 08:12 AM

I already have a pocket watch. Phones count, right?

Ridg3 12-26-2011 12:28 PM

Spoiled gits are spoiled.

Next year Santa should give them a lump of coal. In their throats. Fresh from the fireplace.

Dynamithix 12-26-2011 12:56 PM

Why do people insist on getting an iPhone or a car anyways?

STM 12-26-2011 01:09 PM

Because people follow the crowd and want what everyone else already has.

Agreed.

To me, an iPhone would be a shit Christmas gift. Mind you, I have an extremely negative opinion about iPhones. Fuck that shit.

EDIT: I just realised, I sound like one of those ungrateful fucks. I'd rather have something far cheaper that I could enjoy more and get something good out of it. That's better.

and because they're self-absorbed selfish fucking pricks that prefer to ask mommy and daddy for whatever they like instead of working for it.

seriously, just reading those tweets pissed me off.

EDIT: MERRY CHRISTMAS

Sekto Springs 12-26-2011 09:35 PM

I would be fucking bummed to get an iPhone for Christmas. I'd rather receive some broken X-ray tubes. Those look way fucking cooler.

AlexFili 12-27-2011 01:55 AM

Recently bought a Rock Band 3 keyboard, a psp memory stick for my cousin and some cheap earphones for my mp3 player. Ebay and Amazon are my santas.

STM 12-27-2011 11:12 AM

I'd be happy to have an iPhone because it means someone has actually paid for it to give it to me, and for that alone I'd be grateful. However, I much prefer my blocky old Nokia. Love dem fonez.

Dixanadu 12-27-2011 12:18 PM

I'm so hung over.

Need to get through this minor complication then back to the booze!

STM 12-27-2011 12:31 PM

The best cure for a hangover is more drink Dixyboy.

AlexFili 12-28-2011 01:19 AM

"There's a tiger in the bathroom!"

On another note, anyone been watching english TV? I really enjoyed the Big Fat Quiz of the Year. Spending time with family is always a plus too.

Crashpunk 12-28-2011 04:40 AM

Kinda of, It was in the background on Christmas Day. I did avoid Doctor Who like a bad smell though.

Wil 12-28-2011 04:56 AM

Good idea. Watching it certainly felt like someone taking a fat shit on my brain.

Really? I wouldn't say I loved it, but I did enjoy it.

Wil 12-28-2011 05:03 AM

Depends whether you're into mental scat.

STM 12-28-2011 05:54 AM

It was a very circumstantial and basic story line with an all to sudden climax, and for a pseudo-science fiction series, there was a lot of flowery magical bullshit, it killed an hour though.

AlexFili 12-28-2011 06:44 AM

I felt the cast was good and the overall message was good. Finally we have some non-violent aliens for a change. They're not all murderous crazy things for once!

The Borrowers was okay. I didn't quite like it as much as the Jim Broadbent version though. It seemed to be a bit too modern for it's own good. It didn't have much of the "feel good factor" of the original.

Michael McIntyre's Christmas Roadshow was really funny too. Great line up and great gags.

STM 12-28-2011 07:07 AM

Yeah he was very funny, Dandelion Mind was on with Bill Bailey as well, that's just absolutely hilarious.

Crashpunk 12-28-2011 07:59 AM

I saw The Borrowers last night. It was alright. I didn't watch any other version before so I can't compare.

MA 12-28-2011 01:45 PM

watched the first part of Great Expectations, originally written by Charles Dickens, so it must be Christmassy. really enjoyed it, Ray Winstone was great as always, although he wasn't in it for long. i assume he'll be coming back though.

AlexFili 12-28-2011 02:36 PM

Let's just say, he's a main cast member :D
I really enjoyed Great Expectations so far. The cast is good, the plot is decent and there are some interesting twists here and there.

Ray Winstone's also in a Ben Hur TV film which I'm watching right now too.

MeechMunchie 12-28-2011 03:50 PM

Their Miss Havisham looks way too young though.

Congratulations, you've just described the last seven years' worth of Doctor Who.

You've got to accept with any episode written by Stephen Moffat that he sees Doctor Who as a fairy tale, not serious science fiction.

Phylum 12-28-2011 06:47 PM

My biggest gripe with the episode was that the Monster of the Week did nothing.

Man was the real monster.

And that's some deep shit.

MA 12-29-2011 04:34 PM

hell yeah.
