If there were Meeches in the stock yards...pretty sure they'd have been found, that's like a Playstation Warehouse not knowing they got a hundred PS1s in some corner.

When you think about it, it's kind of weird that a large industrial farm/meat factory would even let a species go extinct. It's a grabbing moral in the story, yes, but if Molluck had any sense of business he would have kept a few Meeches back for breeding.

It's like every farmer on the planet is going to stop breeding cows and in a year we'll all go; ah bummer no more steaks, cows are extinct. It doesn't make sense.

STM 02-04-2011 02:42 PM

And they can as well, in AO if you whistle they reply.

EDIT: @ Havoc - I agree, but Molluck was probably interested in massive short term profits, perhaps he is not the amazing Executive we perceived.

Elmatto753 02-04-2011 02:49 PM

You must remember, he is supposed to actually be quite low on the corperate ladder; keeping a few back and letting them go extinct would have the same short term outcome for him, so he goes for the easier option.

Jordan 02-04-2011 03:36 PM

Greed probably took over him, he was blinded by it. Knowing the Meeches were giving him good sales, he continued without thinking of the long-term consequences. A similar thing may have happened if the Mudokon Pops idea went into action, he might have killed too many Mudokons, thus severely reducing his worker count, meaning he would have to find more employees.

Fischkopf 02-04-2011 03:45 PM

OH YEAH this sounds too good to be true but lorne lanning said it so must be true :fuzgrin:

Don't forget the pathological hatred of nature shared by all Glukkons - conservation sure as hell isn't on their to-do list.

But massive profit occurs seven times. On a list of eight.

And don't even get me started on his ability to whistle/chant like a native mudokon before coming to the native lands when he grew up in an industrial facility where he couldn't learn any of these skills.

Abe’s ability to chant was considered as something to be learnt partway through the game, just as his stitches would have been removed after his escape, allowing hm to speak for the first time. It was decided that the game would be more appealing if he could GameSpeak and possess from the get-go.

:

yeah I remember hearing they were worshipped as well. The whole 'Black sheep tribe' thingy might explain why there wasn't a Meech tribe present in any of the games.

The "black sheep tribe" is the one I mentioned, Mudoncho. It's entirely fanon.

I don't think Kintos would really be revered as sacred animals considering they were a sentient race of mountain dwellers.

Scrabs and Paramites are sentient, too, else how would they know Abe was there to chase? But who says they're sapient? The only clue to their classification we have is that they were used as the link to the Wildlife section of the old Oddworld.com.

His lips were stitched by Sam when he was a baby because he cried too much.

And Sam is held captive by the Vykkers. And Abe was hatched from an egg in RuptureFarms 1029. All of these are true.

It's about as absurd as loggers destroying ever-scarcer rainforest at an increasing rate, or farmers building irrigation systems that drains their entire source of water. Absurd, yes; stupid, yes; happens in our reality, yes.

His lips were stitched by Sam when he was a baby because he cried too much. These naturally have worn out over the years allowing him to talk.

You don't know that other muds can't whistle.

Oh, so he's the only mudokon with stitched lips? That explains...

Wil 02-05-2011 08:54 AM

It does, but that in turn doesn't explain why every Mudokon logo has stitched lips:

Manco 02-05-2011 09:24 AM

Abe was Employee of the Year. Poster boy anyone?

Wil 02-05-2011 09:36 AM

Including the Mudokon Pops ad? :p

Manco 02-05-2011 09:53 AM

He's that good at floorwaxing.

elums mum 02-05-2011 12:24 PM

I dunno if anybody has been on Abes twitter recently but he said this "I found a Meech" then he said "He's my new pet". Think this may be a hint?

Elmatto753 02-05-2011 12:29 PM

You don't read around much, do you?

The stitches always confused me. Is or isn't he the only mud from Rupture Farms with stitched lips? And why are they stitched to begin with?

Crashpunk 02-06-2011 04:53 AM

I think the Mudokon pop logo is very clever, Making Abe the Pop as he is trying to stop it :D

I think the latest accepted theory was that Sam sewed them because he was crying too much.

That's the main reason I assumed they were all stitched. But now I guess the stitched pics are just symbolic/threatening.

STM 02-06-2011 09:20 AM

Perhaps some mudokons have stitched lips, if they stitched eyes shut why not lips.

nowtun 02-06-2011 10:15 AM

werent they sewn shut to stop them from communicating? same as som mudokon miners' eyes were sewn shut to stop them from seeing what the were digging up.

Bullet Magnet 02-06-2011 11:21 AM

Whichever Glukkon came up with that was a 42 carot chump. Blinding your manual labourers makes no good business sense. Better to stitch their lips, so they can see what they're doing but not tell anyone.

STM 02-06-2011 11:44 AM

I think BM, that it was simply to add to the game mechanic, something tricky.

The idea was that if they saw what they were doing they would probably refuse to do it. It was better to keep them in the dark.

Surely they could be brought round with some sligs?

Xavier 02-06-2011 12:26 PM

They might be too scared to dig out the bones of their own dead, you never know what kind of evil curse you'll wake up.

Bullet Magnet 02-06-2011 04:27 PM

I would have thought that they'd been raised to disregard or be ignorant of cultural superstitions, particularly given that every industrial mudokon is knowingly or unknowingly devouring their own heritage.

Wil 02-06-2011 04:43 PM

Sligs are superstitious, why wouldn't industrially-raised Mudokons be? Besides, it's not just the ghosts and ghoulies. Remember the squick.

Don't ever forget the squick.

Bullet Magnet 02-06-2011 06:12 PM

I take it you never played with human remains as a child?

I did once as an 18 year old. I still feel squicky about it.

And those ones were 2000 years old.
