Scrabtrapman: doing me proud.

Don't let me down!

STM 01-30-2011 06:07 AM

Well, looks like you need to go and check some of my earlier posts.

It's only work in progress, not finished, concept title imagery that through editing took about an hour or two. Not finished but as you can guess, I don't feel like working on it right now. Sorry if that's an inconvenience.

EDIT: Thank you Pilot.

Havoc 01-30-2011 08:44 AM

His work so far, I suppose. A banner, maybe some corner pieces? I dunno, really.

Edit: Damn you, next page!

But can you explain what we're looking at? I see some randomly placed copy-pasted images and some rectangular drawn boxes. What are they meant to represent?

Mudokon_Master 01-30-2011 10:31 PM

Neither do I. Is it fitting the default forum themes' measurements with Scrabania?

Manco 01-31-2011 12:47 AM

Alright fuck it, someone link me to some high quality resource images and I'll make a Necrum forum theme.

Because holy fuck MSPaint is not the right tool for this job

STM 01-31-2011 07:44 AM

Fuck you, you ain't putting my baby in an orphanage, as I've said for the fourth time. I'm not done. So let me be blunt with you...you personally, My aunt died on Saturday, sorry that her death is inconveniencing you Oddhunter but at the moment I'm a little preoccupied keeping the family going. Especially my dad. He never cried ever, not when his mother died, not ever, so imagine how bad it is for my family to see a 49 year old man break down.

So I'm preoccupied ok, this is on the back of my list of things to do. So is getting the forum resources, so is getting GIMP, so is getting more back grounds and finishing some test HTML.

This isn't about you being backed up and not delivering anything. It's about you clearly not knowing what you're doing if you start out by making a forum theme in goddamn paint.

OANST 01-31-2011 11:23 AM

I don't really care about any theme, but I think we could be nicer to STM. So, let's do that.

Thanks OANST, I appreciate the thought but I can look after myself.

@Havoc, the above quote is my fucking reply to you, see bold areas.

So yeh, I'll tell you what, your right, I'll just pick up where I left off, I'll go download GIMP to this laptop, I'll recall what I learnt from using it in past experience, I'll go write up the codes in HTML now, I'll finish off the title theme and I'll make sure that this is put far more important than anything else. And my aunts funeral stuff...that's not important, I'll drop helping out with inviting family over to this piece of shit country, helping my dad tell them that my aunts dead, and that they have to leave Ireland/ Australia/ Scotland and drudge over to here. That's what I'll do.

OANST 01-31-2011 12:11 PM

Since I'm the only one being understanding, I will expect to see my face front and center on your creation.

STM 01-31-2011 12:14 PM

You got it.

Havoc 01-31-2011 12:56 PM

Oh god...

Phylum 01-31-2011 01:25 PM

I'd buy it.

Ridg3 01-31-2011 01:39 PM

Can we at least add OANST to the voting list, I'd like to cast a vote.

Nate 01-31-2011 05:57 PM

Scrabtrapman: Ignore Havoc. You know what he's like.

If you don't want OddHunter white-anting you, all you need to do is explain the image in your previous post. Tell us what we're seeing so that we can understand what you have done.

Mudokon_Master 01-31-2011 08:34 PM

Yeah I'm really sorry about what happened STM, the theme will probably turn out great and you're the one who's actually putting their spare time into this trying to get it done, even after your family loss. Don't listen to Havoc or Oddhunter.

Crashpunk 02-01-2011 03:39 AM

How about a Paramonia and Scrabania theme in one.
e.g. each on at different sides. then have a Scrab, Paramite and Elum on the banner.

If there was a theme template I could give this a go.

Nate 02-01-2011 04:21 AM

As we said to Scrabtrapman, the theme template is the page you're looking at right now. Simply replace every single tiny image and you're done. And then do it again for horizontal postbit.

Can the layout be changed by editing the HTML file without screwing everything up?

You can't screw it up, cos you have no direct ability to affect OWF.net

However, you can save the page in offline mode and you get all the HTML and CSS you need and all the pics, and you can edit away to your heart's desire.

STM 02-01-2011 09:02 AM

Ok, I am picking up again, I reckon the funeral is coming soon, I hope. But I'm doing some small things like re-creating the little squiggly things that appear in the native theme. The problem is, I'm taking the native theme as a base but a Necrum colour scheme is a nightmare, I think I said before.

And I'm not ignoring you Nate, I'll say again, the image was the title image that will be at the top of the board, like the picture of paramonian temple and abe on his elum with the ODDWORLD FORUM font in big letters. I hope to do something like that. With a Necrum background, some nice necrum font and a fleech. I hope that answers your questions but I'm not great at explaining things.

Okay, but why were there three different images? What were the rectangles representing? What's with the five small rectangles right above the longest image?

Manco 02-01-2011 10:26 PM

And why were they all slapped together on a single white background?

T-nex 02-02-2011 01:12 AM

I looked into the way the page is sliced, and I have to say, I'd probably grow white hairs before I learned to have patience with that header. It's sliced into like 5 different pieces O_o ... Which is fine when you initially want to slice it, but having to replace those images, I'd say would be annoying as hell. Well, it can be done... But STM, if you're going to go on with this, just be aware of that fact X_x

If you need help with any of this, you can PM me or any of the other self-professed designers, I'm sure. But I really also recommend making a thread in FC.

Also, I don't think you should take this up just yet if you don't feel ready for it. Just do whatever makes you feel good.

AvengingGibbons 02-02-2011 03:35 AM

im assuming the 5 or 6 or so little squares would be tiled for use as the background, and the rectangle with the nexrum trees are sections of the banner?... STM, you need to create the banner as a whole first, then split it up when it's complete. This way would be a lot easier. (Here, I'm assuming you're doing each section of the banner individually. If you are, then dont - do it as a whole banner, then section it to fit in the table)

T-nex 02-02-2011 03:56 AM

The thing is he has to know exactly the dimensions of each slice, which can be tedious... Unless he learns how to manipulate the CSS and HTML code, which will make the job much easier and more pleasant.

STM 02-02-2011 07:45 AM

Sorry, I haven't explained well. Only one of those is the banner I was using, the others are images I tried but didn't like but didn't delete just in case. I'll upload a new update soon anyway.

Havoc 02-02-2011 02:27 PM

You know, when designing a template you should have the HTML adapt to the image, not the other way around. Just design what you think looks good/functional and hand that over to whomever is going to put it into code, which will probably be Alcar.

The only reason he suggested you use this page as reference is because it has (almost) all the elements used throughout a vBulletin template on one page. So if you were to create a topic page in photoshop, Alcar can slice it up and alter the HTML to suit that.

Dixanadu 02-05-2011 12:46 PM

Stockyard's Free Fire Zone.

Man, that would be sooo coool :(
