I've already seen that. Yogscast are very funny indeed.

Godlesswanderer 01-25-2011 09:46 PM

I've been trying to get at least half an hour of footage to do a time lapse tilt shift video with but unfortunately it seems that the UI turns itself on after about 5 minutes so I only managed to get 30 seconds.

This game got reviewed by Yahtzee today.

EDIT: Blah, embedding doesn't work. Check this link instead.

Crashpunk 01-27-2011 08:37 AM

he liked it? that's surprising seeing how Yahtzee hates every game

No, Yahtzee pretends to hate every game because fans tell him he's boring when he says things nice about games.

cf. His Psychonauts review, followed by the one for Bioshock.

MeechMunchie 01-27-2011 11:49 PM

Also The Orange Box. Though that one was actually boring, rather than just positive.

Well, I died whilst fucking around with lava and lost 14 obsidian blocks, a diamond pickaxe, four gold blocks, five buckets of lava and my weapons and armour.

I'm going to take a break.

OANST 01-31-2011 10:31 AM

I'm sorry, is this Minecraft or Whinecraft? eh? eh?

Shit like that always happens to me.

What the lava has stolen off me.
  • 13 diamonds
  • Diamond tools
  • 38 Obsidian blocks
  • 128 iron ingots
  • Vehicles
  • Saddle

Quick question, does anyone know how to host a local Mulitplayer server for Minecraft?

Ridg3 02-02-2011 06:05 AM

I don't know about a local server but there's a program called Hamachi (I think) that simulates a local server over the internet. Quite easy to use actually, I have a server set up for me and my mates and I'll post the IP address when I could be arsed.

Singleplayer is a lot more fun, by the way.

MeechMunchie 02-15-2011 09:30 AM

I admire any feat of engineering, virtual or otherwise.

That was amazing. I found it pretty impressive how day and night went whilst it was moving. just shows you how long it is

Also, What if Minecraft went even more badass?

DarkHoodness 02-17-2011 05:57 PM

People are taking this waaay too seriously. :P (I can see why though - I'll be giving this a try once I get bored with WoW, which will probably be quite soon. Oh, and that vid was nicely done.)

DarkHoodness 02-19-2011 06:25 AM

*later* I bought it last night, thanks to what I read and watched in this thread. Then 5 hours later I realised the sun was rising... In real life. Ahh!

It's waaay too addictive. :P Incredibly good fun though. :)

After seeing the Yogcast videos, I finally decided to look into the online server creation business a bit more seriously. Concerning local servers, I guess it's pretty much well explained on the appropriate forums, and also on Minepedia.

Alright, I had a quick look at the free Classic mode and I'm thinking about buying the full version. Before I accidentally buy something my PC won't be able to handle, does anyone have a definite idea of the game's minimum specs? Browsing around didn't exactly turn up much useful stuff.

Basically, if I can run the free version in-browser, how does that reflect on my ability to run the full game?

DarkHoodness 02-21-2011 01:05 PM

My PCs an ancient dinosaur (7 years old, 2.17 GHz single core, Radeon 9800 Pro, 1GB RAM, Windows XP SP 2) and seems to run it perfectly okay, although sometimes it gets some framerate issues but it's still perfectly playable in windowed mode with the settings set to low. I can even run Spotify in the background while playing without it affecting performance too much. It runs like treacle when I try to play it in fullscreen, though.

Did you find this thread?

I find it weird that it looks like a retro ancient DOS game from the early 1990s, but it requires a fast PC to run it. :P I know the retro-look is part of its art style, but I do wonder why it's so intensive on processing power. Surely randomly generating a world made from little blocks could be done without using so much? However, I suppose it shows that a good game doesn't need impressive graphics to make it good.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and...

I died many times getting these words in the sky. (I quickly discovered that you can jump and place blocks below you and get as high as you want that way - Gravel and sand collapses if you remove the bottom block, so if you fall and die it's easy to remove your pillar after you respawn)

http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...1&d=1298329144
It means I can see my house for miles, though.

Tiny cabin I made last night that I built on my spawn point.

Inside. Multiple ovens mean that I can smelt iron faster!

Manco 02-21-2011 02:24 PM

I did actually run across that thread, but annoyingly it doesn't really mention desktop Intel chips. Looking over it again, I guess I should be fine since my PC meets pretty much all the recommended requirements, but I'm still kind of unsure about my graphics chip.

Then again, I was planning on upgrading my GPU anyway, so it probably won't hurt to give it a try.

If it's running on the Java installed in your web browser installed on your operating system, it should run on the Java installed on your operating system.

enchilado 02-21-2011 03:45 PM

My house is going well. It's built into the corner of a glitchy square cliff, and has obsidian-walled lavalamps in each corner. But I can't figure out how to take screenshots - pressing printscreen pauses the game, and I get the menu.

Is there any other way I can get a screenshot?

Wil 02-21-2011 04:59 PM

F2.

Also try F1 + F2.

Mac Sirloin 02-21-2011 08:33 PM

I got it on Saturday. Dicked around for the last few days basically building workbenches all over the place and dying. I finally decided to abandon my initital area, built a boat and crossed a largish amount of water. I found three mountains built around a beach-facing grass valley and built a home into the side of the centermost mountain. I mined up the mountain, building 3 stone shovels at a time and collecting a bunch of dirt and cobblestone. Eventually I climbed to the peak of the mountain, collected about 500 blocks of sand, and built a giant tower on it. I saved it for now, but I'm hoping to make it impossibly tall, add a few floors to prevent death from climbing it and then mine the ground beneath it so that it's just an enormous sand mansion on top of stone.

Josh 02-22-2011 10:08 AM

I built a floating mini-biome in the Nether. Thats about as creative as I get.

Manco 02-22-2011 11:37 AM

Okay, took the plunge and forked out my money for Minecraft. Thankfully it works, albeit with some occasional choppiness.

Spent my first day building a log cabin on a tiny island I found. I then proceeded to expand upwards, resulting in a giant sand staircase extending waaaay beyond the cabin roof.

I think I like this game.

Dynamithix 02-22-2011 11:42 AM

Duh, everyone likes Minecraft. ;)

Sliglover 02-22-2011 11:54 AM

I tried it, it's awesome
The only flaw is in the controls.I never knew what to do in it O.o

I just like blowing shit up, the red is all my Tnt. I've only spent about 3 hours on it so far.

DarkHoodness 02-22-2011 02:40 PM

How do you get the isometric view of the map?

And here's a vid of the same hut I posted earlier, it's not as impressive as building a hut in the nether though:
