I heard there's people going around asking people to play co-op with them, then screaming spoilers down the microphone and leaving the game.

Real classy, internet.

Phylum 04-19-2011 11:02 PM

That's why I'm playing single player first, then progressing to co-op with people who aren't fucking cunts.

Havoc 04-19-2011 11:14 PM

To be honest I don't think there's much to spoil. The active 'plot' isn't insanely thick and the plot twist can be seen coming from a mile away. There's many times more backstory in Portal 2 than actual present day story. Which is good because I tend to like backstory more anyway. I just loved running around in those old worn and plant infested test chambers, even seeing some of the old chambers from Portal 1 now completely destroyed.

Crashpunk 04-20-2011 09:54 AM

I've just completed Portal 2 Singleplayer...

Fucking...

Epic...

ending.

It had a really nice atmophere to it that i've never really felt in a game.

Phylum 04-21-2011 05:35 PM

I just finished it.

It was a really good end. I'm a bit disappointed that there was nothing like this in the game (especially the stuff from 1:02).

The song was good, too. It wasn't great like Still Alive, but it was still a really nice way to end it. There was no funky radio version of it, though :(

I'm a bit disappointed that it's only 7 hours long, but I've heard the co-op is just as long. I'm yet to start that section of the game.

Mr. Bungle 04-21-2011 05:44 PM

So, there are two separate campaigns? One for single-player, and one for co-op? Goddamn, I need this game.

DarkHoodness 04-21-2011 05:45 PM

I'm sure the map modders will recreate these soon - Also there's supposed to be free single-player DLC content out soon, apparently.

I'm playing through the SP campaign again with developer commentary - They had to dumb down some of the more complex puzzles because some of the play testers couldn't get their heads around them. That's the disadvantages of trying to tailor a game for a wide audience.

Phylum 04-21-2011 06:01 PM

I figured that's why some of them were left out. I'd imagine that the crusher puzzles would be more frustrating than anything else.

Some challenge maps couldn't have hurt, though.

DarkHoodness 04-21-2011 06:07 PM

Oh yeah and (POSSIBLE SPOILERS):

I love the humour in this game. :)

Phylum 04-21-2011 07:40 PM

Cave Johnson's voiceovers were the best by far. That's probably my favourite of his.

Dynamithix 04-21-2011 11:09 PM

Wait wait wait... did they remove Propulsion- and Repulsion gel out of the game?

DarkHoodness 04-21-2011 11:13 PM

No, just the particular puzzles that they advertised in the trailers. Only the pneumatic pipe mechanic got removed.

Dynamithix 04-21-2011 11:20 PM

Oh ok.

Dipstikk 04-21-2011 11:48 PM

Finished the game. I wasn't too impressed

ARE YOU KIDDING THIS GAME IS BASICALLY SEX.

By far one of my favorite voices in the game. One more under the belt for the Northmeister.

Possible? That bit is the biggest spoiler in the game...

Crashpunk 04-22-2011 03:04 AM

"AHH I can't see a thing, what just happened? Better open fire *click click click* ..damn."
I admit the defective turrets rock!

Strike Witch 04-22-2011 04:40 AM

I finished it. Loved it.

Especially the ending.

Dynamithix 04-22-2011 07:41 AM

Fuck you all for having Portal 2. :<

I want it too, but I don't have mooooonneeeeeeyyyy.

About a month ago, neither did I. That's why I did something with my money, which I think they call 'saving'. [Sarcasm circuit test, successful.]

Absolutely loved it even though I completed it in just one afternoon, and it did feel like some of the new gimmicks weren't as developed as they could have been. I also missed the High Energy Pellets, though I can understand why they didn't include all of the gimmicks from the previous game.
I also wish there'd been a bit more test chamber 16-style content (the one that was replaced by a live fire course). There was disappointingly little slow, thought-out close-quarters interaction with the turrets. It was mostly all either too quick to think about or a case of killing them from a distance with the various gadgets.

But yeah, I did really enjoy it. The ending was lunacy (see what I did there?) and brilliant, with a great parallel to the battle with GLaDOS; I think they constructed a really brilliant, really fitting ending for the game's story, and it gives at least some information about the far-off end of the Half Life series (the Combine hasn't destroyed the Moon and the Earth supports plant-life! Omigosh!)

The song was brilliant. :D
My favourite quote was Wheatley's, "It's alright, I'll manually override it - I'll manually override that wall." Also there were some turrets in a secret room in one of the earlier test chambers which were engaged in a truly hilarious activity.

Now I need someone to do multiplayer with...

Chubfish 04-22-2011 08:26 AM

If anyone wants to run through co-op with me, add me on Steam (search for Chubfish). Mind you I've completed pretty much the entire game 100%, but I don't mind running through it again.

Havoc 04-22-2011 10:33 AM

Something just occured to me.

Cave Johnson was promoting all the modern hardware made by Aperture in the promo video's (panels, turrets, boots) but he died long before the new facility was put into use (I think). The last message we hear from him is in the 'old' chamber built in the early 80's, the lemon video posted earlier. In that bit he sounds extremely sick and near death, yet in the promo's he sounds perfectly healthy. Story continuation flaw or is it implied here that Cave is still alive?

DarkHoodness 04-22-2011 10:39 AM

I think the trailers are non-canon. Something I have noticed about Valve games is that even though their storytelling is fantastic, their consistency isn't very good, especially between sequels. I'm a bit OCD when it comes to noticing them and I've had to learn to ignore that.

EDIT: Stuff like how Portal 2 is set "several centuries" after Portal 1 (which is said to take place between 2000-2009) yet the decay seems to be that of several decades rather than several centuries. And how does stasis work? How is Chell (and her clothes) still pristine and un-aged when the room she's been sleeping in for several centuries has decayed around her?

Also, why are the old labs in such pristine condition considering their age? Did sealing off the old labs also seal away the air to stop them deteriorating? I like how they're set out as a museum, it's a good way of storytelling, but it's not consistent and makes the nitpicking part of me question why they kept the chambers and lobby from 1950 when they were running out of money in the 1970s, and why the 1950s chambers didn't deteriorate much between the time they were built and the time they were sealed off.

Portal 2 has a different art style from Portal 1 and people have pointed this out as an inconsistency because the lifts and chambers from Portal 1 are totally different even though some of the layouts are the same, but it's so typical from Valve that I think it can be fair to dismiss this as simply being an art style change rather than a canonical change. Portal 1 was made as an experiment after all, so Portal 2 is more polished as a game - Obviously they had to retcon a few things.

Havoc 04-22-2011 12:08 PM

All in all I think Portal 2 is how Portal 1 was originally envisioned if they would have had the time and budget to work out a story and better environments. In Portal Aperture Science is just a company with no identity. Glados is just a murdering computer. Panels were movable but not in the way they are shown in Portal 2 where every possible shape is available.

I don't think Valve ever expected Portal to become such a huge succes and expected it to remain an indy game. Their insane marketing for Portal 2 shows they want people to see it as a full game, not a random mod or indy game.

Manco 04-22-2011 03:20 PM

So I thought this was over already?

DarkHoodness 04-22-2011 03:24 PM

Probably the ARG wiki people releasing their thankyou video to Valve.

EDIT: Yep, seems I was correct. http://valvearg.com/thankyou/ Looks a bit overloaded at the moment though.

LDG519 04-22-2011 04:58 PM

just played through the whole thing (ending was epic) and am now in the process of playing through the commentary.

has anyone found the imposable space yet?

Crashpunk 04-23-2011 02:00 AM

I kinda feel for bad for Chell and Wheatley at the end, what is Chell going to do now she is free? after Portal 2 I don't think she wants to be free? and Wheatley is trapped in SPAAAAACE forever but its not his fault he went power crazy.

Havoc 04-23-2011 04:16 AM

Why is the co-op credits music so addictive?

Mac Sirloin 04-23-2011 06:02 AM

I bought it on a whim ?Thursday night, decided I needed it with my Season 3 Venture Bros. box set.

It's pretty much the most well designed game I've ever played. It has made me laugh out loud, repeatedly. Wheatley and Taters are both awesome companions. My only qualm is that it doesn't feel like there are enough testing areas that really let you fly around a room with portals. It's an amazing game and you should get it. I got it for 360, if it matters.

Dynamithix 04-23-2011 11:03 AM

Yay, I just got some money and I'm def. going to get Portal 2 in a week or so.
