PuddiinLOL :] 07-22-2010 08:34 AM

Oddworld is a forgotten title to many gamers, and hopefuly these new games will revive oddworld ... and Lorne will probbably carry on with the quintolagy.

thats if these games are Hits !

GlukkonGluk 07-22-2010 08:40 AM

Ah well, has it occurred to anyone that, even if the games are a huge success...very few people are going to understand the "quintology" concept unless they have played any of the previous games. The very old games. That have, as Puddiiin said, been forgotten by many. I see this as a slight complication, eh?

SuperSligMan 07-22-2010 08:43 AM

I gess but im verry pesamistic and im scered just incase the game will never come out

That's what Oddbox is for.

It's because Abe's Exoddus isn't essential to understand the story. AO has Abe discover and accept his fate as saviour of his people. AE is just him doing that for a bit before the real story begins with the rescue of Sam, the trial of Molluck and the freedom of the last Gabbit alive in MO. Or one third of that, anyway.

AHHHHHHHH.... Maybe once Oddbox is out and I've had the chance to play MO and SW, then I'll see the whole picture :) btw, I've no idea who Sam is, or what the trial of Mullock the gluckon is all about.. but don't tell me!.. Wait, didn't Mullock the Glukkon get all electrocuted by the mudokon magic beams at the end of Abe's Oddysee???

OddYouko 07-22-2010 09:32 AM

Awesome news! :D Finally..
Looking forward to these new games, etc.

I think more people will be familiar with the idea of the Quintology through interviews with Lorne, and by word-of-mouth via news/reviews/previews, friends and other fans.

crimsonxking 07-22-2010 09:46 AM

Yeah, half of what I know about Oddworld was never mentioned once in the games themselves. It makes me wonder if we should still consider it canon now that someone else is working on the series.

now that someone else is working on the series.
It's not that someone else is making the series, it's just Lorne and his gang go by a different name now.

Spirrow 07-22-2010 10:02 AM

I've considered that a lot of people must have forgotten-or more or less put aside the oddworld games and got on with their lives. If OWI and whatever companies it's working with want to make a comeback, they need to make one hell of a bang that will land them on the cover of a game magazine, especially if they want to attract a new crowd and bring the oldies back in, panting on their knees.

It also make me wonder if OWI just doesn't have the funds to independantly develop a game on their own if the desired.

Sekto Springs 07-22-2010 10:07 AM

What? OWI never had the funds to independently develop a game, that's not how it works. OWI was a small development company, they've always gotten their funding from their publishers.

Oh? That's not what I gathered from the interview a few pages back. It sounded to me like Just Add Water was making the new Oddworld games, and they were just getting Lorne to overlook and okay everything.

Hazz-JB 07-22-2010 10:11 AM

Great news! This is much more promising than previous anouncements, due to JAW being on board and making claims about something new being announced/released very soon.

A couple of thoughts. One of Abemudokon's tweets was:
:

Why is it always a Stranger that thinks he's the Hand of Odd?
Could this mean that Stranger and Hand of Odd could be connected, and could be one of the projects they're working on?

Secondly, in the VG247 interview there was this part:
:

Can you clarify if any of these titles will be HD ports or new stuff?

Stewart Gilray: Oh goodness. That’s tricky, because anything we do do, if it happens to be on a console, will be HD.

OK.

Stewart Gilray: Whether it’s new or old or whatever, I really can’t discuss.
It sounds to me like the old games (or atleast the 3D ones) could possibly be made into HD versions, which could explain why the Oddbox has taken so long to arrive.

I thought you were referring to Oddmobb as 'someone else'.
J.A.W. is developing the game, but Lorne and his team will still be responsible for the conceptual part of the process (or so I imagine). The art and story.

Ah, no. Sorry, I should have been more specific. But on that note, I really would like some clarification on if Lorne and his team are indeed involved in this project when it comes to art and story. The interview really made it sound like he was just approving what JAW is doing while he works on separate projects. But I could be very wrong.

Electrocuted? Yep. Does that mean he's dead? Who knows........

Sekto Springs 07-22-2010 10:49 AM

I'd be very surprised if Lorne wasn't hands-on for any part of the creative development. He's always worked very closely with his design team. I can't envision him passing the torch to someone else.

Molluck isn't dead. This was going to be a major plot point in Munch's Oddysee, but it didn't happen.

crimsonxking 07-22-2010 11:01 AM

AE definitely was setting his return up. I was convinced we hadn't seen the last of him after the line...

"Mullock's gonna be pissed. If he ever comes back we're screwed."

It struck me as odd because he was clearly dealt with in AO, so the Glukkon's clearly knew something we didn't if they considered him "gone" or "missing" rather than "dead". Clearly.

Sekto Springs 07-22-2010 11:15 AM

Oh man, I so wish they kept that Slig Newscaster. He was, like, my favorite character ever.

Sekto Springs 07-22-2010 11:24 AM

I like that he's attached to the set.

GlukkonGluk 07-22-2010 11:30 AM

Well, I was being subtle about it lol. Ah, but that would be interesting if they put it in a game, wouldn't it? I would be more interested to get Sam involved. Maybe it would finally answer the question as to why Abe's lips are stitched up, since I have heard at least three explanations...

Lorne said it was because Abe was constantly crying and Sam feard that they would dispose of him because he was irritating. She sewed his lips up to keep him quiet and save his life.

Eh, MO wasn't THAT bad. But it sure did have a lot of stuff planned for it that never happened, yeah.

Sekto Springs 07-22-2010 12:23 PM

He's only saying MO sucks because the cool kids said it first. MO only sucks if you compare it to what it could have been.

crimsonxking 07-22-2010 12:25 PM

MO is my least favorite of the console Oddworld games, but it was still a good video game and it still had that Oddworld flare that I love so much.

No. MO was not a very good game.

Sekto Springs 07-22-2010 12:28 PM

I enjoyed it very much when it first came out, probably the only launch title I enjoyed. I admit it hasn't aged well, but I go back and play it every now and again.

crimsonxking 07-22-2010 12:29 PM

I only played it once. I was disappointed in it, but I didn't hate it.
