The You are Minecraft project has been extended to May 19th.

Tonight/this morning I've added my mark by re-creating a poor iteration of Blackgaze's slig skin (barely any green wool colours, melons don't look good). While it's not the skin I use, it does represent what I'm mostly known for doing in Minecraft.

Official changelog is somewhat non-descriptive (One of the items is "Censored").
Editable Books - Book and Quill, crafted using a Book, Feather, and Ink Sac.
When a Book and Quill is made, it can be right-clicked to open a screen that allows you to type the book.
Pressing "Done" will save whatever was typed and allow you to edit the book again later, yet will not "sign" it.
When "signing" a book, it will allow you to choose a title up to 16 characters long and disable editing of the book. The Book and Quill then becomes a Written Book, with the icon changing along with the label.
Wooden slabs for each of the four shades of wood added
These new slabs no longer act like stone
An axe should be used to break them
They are no longer immune to fire and lava
New block IDs 125 for double wooden slabs and 126 for single wooden slabs.
Wooden slabs created in older versions of Minecraft are still stone-like and fireproof and will not change to the new slabs when placed or mined.
Leather is now required to craft Books.
Silk touch can now retrieve Ice blocks and Glass Panes.
Ice no longer turns into water in the Nether.
In the menu, Chat Options were added.
Added chat opacity, letting the chat be semi-transparent.
Added chat disabling, removing the chat for SMP servers.
Added chat colors option.
Added "Only Commands" mode to chat.
/help added.
Tools now have infinite durability in Creative mode.
Minecart and boats are destroyed in one hit in Creative mode.
Various Bugfixes, some regarding entity collision, the pick block function, and chat.
Livestock, such as chickens, can now be "walked through" instead of pushing the player around in crowded pens
Flying through water in Creative mode is no longer slow
You can no longer have a Bonus Chest in Hardcore mode.
Server Commands now appear in italics in SMP.
Saplings now have their proper names.
Notable bugs (Complete bug list):
All Wooden Slabs appear as the Oak slab when placed upside down. This is purely visual.
The Sound and the Music volume aren't displayed correctly.
Wooden Slabs spend light when placed before 12w17a.
Blocks like torches, rails or redstone destroyed by downwards flowing water don't drop items.

This update about books really intrigues me. Next step in my mind would be bookshelves being initially empty and serving as containers for books.

Well i'm just glad that i've finished making my enchantment room on the server ages ago. :)

Still. it's a new use for Leather.

I just found this video, it's a very simple computer but a big circuit.... Imagine trying to create a laptop.... I can't answer that unless I am talking to you in another world on another type of internet connection from a minecraft computer... That's just my fantasy of it but anyway here's the video:

Now there's a Minecraft on the 360. Apparently it doesn't have sprint or hunger. Sounds a bit too basic.

It's version 1.6 ported across, so it has the old lighting and anything else that was pre 1.8.

I had such a nostalgia rush from the 1.7 Xbox version of minecraft I seriously considered downgrading my PC copy back to pre-1.8.

Minecraft was better before 1.8. I hate the hunger bar so much.

And Steve's 'ungh' noise when he falls, I miss that.

I wonder if there is a mod to change back the falling sounds? Oh and the explosion sounds as well.

I've just downloaded the sounds for now. Having this mod will probably make me unable to join the server

Not really. Anyone who has played Minecraft at least once would recognize the "Ow" sound, I'm saying it's iconic to anyone who has seen or played Minecraft. And then they go and remove it. :(

I thought it was a horrendously ugly sound and I don't mourn its passing.

What I was trying to say was that the 'ow' was just a stock sound.

That is extremely impressive. And incomprehensibly, needlessly complicated. Here we have a real computer, already very advanced and complex, utilising everything from Maxwell's equations to quantum mechanics to work and the vastness of modern computing science. The work being to run and render a fantastic piece of software, all simple physics, true logic and the stylised depiction of a world. And within that software that virtual physics and logic has been used to create a complex structure that mechanically calculates the Fibonacci sequence. Which could have been done with dedicated software, a real mechanical machine similar to this one, or even in your own head.

What we need now is for someone to create a Minecraft computer capable of running another, simplified version of Minecraft.

... Maybe this is why our universe exists? We're some gaseous space-squid's favourite SimGalaxy build?
