still doesnt explain why they are used as pictures, it just seems a little odd.
anyway, about the 'Summer 2013 Release' and the development team dont think that will happen, do you mean that they think it will be released sooner than that or later? i dont need specific dates or times, it just sounds like such a long way away. |
:
Whats going on in terms of production. Presumably you are working on the game, can you not divulge any information about what stage you're at? |
Nepsotic, is there a reason why you are rude to everyone?

haha cheers for that :P i think that if it is released after that time then it will be 110% worth the wait :)

As long as its just banter I don't mind haha :)

Nice ones then. I'm not exactly 'nasty'

>Someone on the internet
>2012 >Doesn't know what a Brony is *facehoof* Okay, back on topic. People earlier seemed to think I want the Shrykull gone - I don't. Quite the contrary, I want the Red Rings, which are more useful than the Shrykull and have infinite uses, gone as they serve no purpose other than to make the Shrykull seem less awesome. |
How do you blow up bombs before getting the power of shrykull, then?
|
aaaarrrrRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!
|
It only got used a couple of times before the Shrykull was obtained. Might as well use rocks, or just change the puzzles a little.
:
Actually, on that note, please don't try to constrain yourself to a timescale too much... That is kinda how Ultima 8 and 9 happened. |
Oh and don't forget what happened to Munch. In fact if any of the guys in charge try and attempt to put an unrealistic timescale on anything, remind them of Munch and use it as an example of why nobody should ever do that.
Also the guy who posted the first FB post made an update a while ago: :

Is that FB post directly copied? Not to be mean to you folks... but that doesn't read like a post from a company... I know its Facebook, but perhaps an air of professionalism is in order? (Though I really shouldn't tell you how to run your company :3)

Yes. And it was incredibly annoying. Just leave the red rings in. Don't fix it if its not broken.
|
Alternatively, redesign the puzzles. The Red Rings just weaken the idea of the Shrykull being this great power.
|
I don't think they did at all. Leave them!

EDIT: One thing, I think that Karl quote meant to say 'Treat' on your sig. |
Oh, shit yeah. I'll change that.
|
The rings are ok, I just wish it was more than just a ring if you know what I mean, it seemed quite cheap. Enhance it a bit more but not as epic as the shrykull. I think it would be more dramatic if we heard thunder, the screen dims and maybe when it's all over, we hear like a tinnitus noise (high pitched beeeeeeeeeep) and slowly fade back into gameplay sounds and music. (talking about the shrykull of course)
|
Yeh, do that! Let's just take the flash bang from Call of Duty and use that.
|
Let's keep this thread on-topic, everyone. Discussion of p/bro-nies should be relegated to its appropriate place and direct communication from one member to another must occur via Private Message.

Ok guys I don't play video games much at all so you can just tell me if an idea has been used already without the sarcasm, thanks :)
|
You mean, be genuinely insightful, without the facetiousness?
Does. Not. Compute. |
Taking the sarcasm out of me would be like tearing the tail off a cat - I'd lose balance and fall over all the time.

I see no problem with keeping the red rings in. They're not nearly as powerful as the Shrykull and can't destroy anything organic. Also, I liked having to go through all that bullshit just to get a ring so I could blow up a screen full of mines to progress. Floating mines aren't exactly easy to blow up with a rock, just saying.
It was also pretty great getting used to this weird ring that blew up everything, then suddenly getting this crazy god power that made you invincible for a short amount of time and zapped everything on the screen into oblivion. The red rings don't make you invincible. Your ass can still die when you use that. Plus, upon returning to Rupture Farms, there's only one place you can even get the red rings anymore, and that area is a completely optional path. Speaking of that, if the Skrykull you get from rescuing the two mudokons while heading back to the screen the game started in had a better use than just frying 4 random sligs running in from off screen that'd be fantastic. The Skrykull entirely replaces the red rings for the second half of the game. There's no need to remove the red rings. They serve as an interesting mechanic for part of the game and the Skrykull is like an upgrade to that, and everybody loves upgrades. |
Yeah but how about eliminating the need for the Red Rings after the return the Rupture Farms? You talk about upgrades and yet it seems like there will still be both of them in the same place. :/
|
I don't think Abe' Oddysee is the type of game which should use 'Upgrades', you should work for it to gain it, like you do with the shrykull. I'm not sure how to approach the red ring situation, you need them to progress through certain areas yet they seem too powerful to be close to to the strength of the shrykull.
|
There is absolutely no problem with the red rings whatsoever. There is no need to alter or change them or remove them, it would only anger some die hard fans that you remove something so iconic.
|
I just see it as pointless. Its like you already have the ability to throw fireballs when suddenly the gods give you the ability to throw slightly larger fireballs. Its like having a combat shotgun and then being given a slightly more expensive combat shotgun that just has a couple more shells in the canister. Its ruins the impact the Shrykull was intended to have in the game. The ability to turn into a god should not just be seen as a weapon upgrade, it should be seen as an almighty ability gained by going through ancient trials. Hell, the red rings kinda ruin the idea that Abe is a pacifist - at least when he turns into the Shrykull he doesn't have any control over what he is zapping the shit out of.
And I'd hardly say the red rings are iconic. They kinda just felt out of place and come out of nowhere. |
^agreed^ however I don't think they should be taken out, just edited maybe. I don't particularly want anything taken away from the original, it just needs tweaking.
|
I think they should add more Mudokon Gods. Not as powers but just as cave paintings or something, Mudokons seem too calm a race to only have a god of War and Revenge.
|
Yeah, that sounds cool. I don't know how you could tweak the red rings, besides having other Mudokons cast it or something (that would make Abe seem weak still, whilst keeping the basic idea of the rings)
|
I don't know where I'm going with this, but if mudokons are evolved from birds, why not replace the red rings with some sort of bird power? Idk abe chants and a swarm of birds home in on the mines? That's just a silly idea but you know where I'm coming from.
