There's no way the server will be updated in time - Unless people change back to the Beta 1.8.1 jar file which I happened to have a backup of, but I don't suppose others will. I could distribute it but it may not be legal and the upload limit here is 1 mb. Anyone know of a safe link to download the 1.8.1 .jar file?
Still, looks like the mysterious person leaving the signs around will have to postpone this for later. |
Someone is on the server right now... Would that be you, DH? Did you downgrade to 1.8.1?
|
Postponement will probably get a better result that downgrade. I suggest we set a new date after Havoc updates.
|
I wouldn't mind postponement.
OK, so now there are two people on the server. Still can't get in though. |
Yeah, me and Ench managed to get on ('cause we kept our 1.8.1 jar files) but it seems nobody else has. :( Ah well.
|
Your mystery person obviously browses the forum, as they changed BST to GMT following my post, so it's to be hoped they'll read this and realize it's far more expedient for them to postpone their trolling.
So just wait for more signs I guess. |
So, uh, if it could be postponed by a full week then, um, I should have my new computer by then… if that’s not too long to wait… so I don’t have to play on Tiny render distance and still only get 3FPS…
|
That would best suit me too.
|
Server update will likely take a couple of days. Until then I'll experiment with connecting two seperate worlds so we can have a fresh 1.0 world. I might take this chance to completely reconfigure the server, as it's quite a mess right now settings wise.
|
Sounds good. :)
|
Im glad the update only came now. Ive been soooo busy with my Sister being here... havent had time for games. But now I'll have time again :) I hope we get a new world soon, so I can hoard all the resources. YAAAAAH!
|
What's the plan for the new world? Free for all like before?
|
I think we should build yet another base together. That was kinda fun. I also think maybe we should organize the server a bit more. Organized events seems like a decent way to bring people together, and we should do that more often.
Maybe we could even create a world with a backstory. Make it sort of RP-like :P Or at least immersive. But It should be free-for-all as well, and group-things should be optional IMO... |
I think doing a smaller settlement together so we can focus more of our creativity on the wider area. I'd say player-owned-houses should be kept small in the village, with a greater emphasis on communal facilities like a Spleef Arena, train station, communal chests and so forth in the village.
|
If we make a transport system, can we plan it a bit better than the one at Genesis? That was a mess by the end.
|
Just make it underground as much as possible, easier to redesign the tracks if need be.
I'm doing some work on the server right now so it might be offline from time to time. Should PVP be turned back on btw? |
That would be dangerous. Ive made it a habit to flail my sword around at everyone.
|
It would only be dangerous around you then.
Good news, I've gotten multiworlds to work and linked them together with the stargates. I've also overhauled the entire permission system so it's more easy to finetune who gets to do what on the server. For now is basically the same as before, though. As soon as a Bukkit build for 1.0 is released I'll generate a new world for us. Any suggestions for seeds? For the test world I used oddworldforumsminecraft which generated a swamp area with huge mountains around it. But I dunno if it will yield the same result in 1.0. |
I know two good seeds that I have tried recently. "19881014" (my birthdate, incidentally) results in an awesome landscape full of really tall mountains and very few trees to be found in the spawn area, which gives you a good challenge at first, not to mention finding food.
"19861014" sets you off in a relatively flatter area, and a pine forest at that. There are some neat underground caverns scattered around, and also swamp and snow biomes in the near vicinity of the spawn point. Branching out individually is bound to happen after a while, sure. Still, I found that the building of Exodus managed to keep up the interest. People were going about the town to see what changed, what other people are working on and all... It was a good group effort. So I'm up for creating another communal sort of facility (not exclusively by me, of course). Which reminds me, I still have to finish my comic rendition of The Story of the Golden Apple. |
I just read the story of the Golden Apple in the temple. Pretty neat.
In other news, there are some experimental builds (some more stable then others) of Bukkit available now. I'll clean up some last few things (give ops their power back for one), back everything up once again and then try to install the experimental version. If it doesn't give me a crapton of errors I might give the green light in a few hours. Stay tuned! |
I think we should do a random seed, but maybe try a few out first. I generated a new world yesterday and it took me a few attempts to get a world I was happy with (finally got a spawn in the middle of a vast tundra that I'm yet to find an end to).
If we pick a world someone has already done, they kind of know where to go and look for natural wonders or ore deposits. I'd say get a random one, but make sure it's a good one. Not another desert. |
Shouldn't be too hard. One of the nice things is that we can now generate new worlds straight from the game without having to restart. So we can try a few, check them out and delete them if we're not happy with them.
|
Server has been updated to 1.0.0 (Experimental Build) Everything seems to work, but I changed a couple of things in the permission system. So if there's anything that seems off please let me know. Have fun! |
Whey!! :cheer:
|
I'll be happy to test out the 1.0.0 server.
PS Dont turn on PVP, You can always have an arena for that! |
I’d like global PvP. It’s not like we have any griefers…

Announcement of Some Import:
Hulaabeo managed, by dint of persistence and jammy luck, to find a Nether Fortress in the Old World. He took me there today, and then had to log off, but I continued exploring for a bit and managed to find a couple of really excellently placed blaze-spawners (excellent because they're in caves in the Nether, so the blazes can't fly out of sword range). Blazes appear to be bugged at the moment, because their fireballs weren't affecting me, so I managed to get a good haul of rods (way more than I have enderpearls to go with). I built a portal back to the Overworld very near to the spawners, but unfortunately it comes out on a small platform of obsidian high over a vast ocean, thousands of blocks from anywhere at all. I will mention the co-ordinates, which are x: -3484 y: 71 z: 6953 So if you want an 'easy' way to the spawners, there you have it (it really is the middle of nowhere*). Alternatively, you can ask Hula to guide you, I guess. Unfortunately I had neither a diamond pick or any more obsidian to try another portal at the other, closer-to-Exoddus, end of the fortress. The other thing about the location where my portal came out is that while the chunks were loading, I got a glimpse of some very regular-looking structures underground. At first I thought I'd come out near Exoddus and was seeing someone's mine until I saw my co-ordinates and realised how in-the-middle-of-nowhere I was. I don't want to get anyone too excited and frankly I might be totally wrong but I would say when we get to the stage of looking for a stronghold, there might be the opportunity of an easy search. Since we have two worlds to explore, we get two raids on the Enderdragon. Can I suggest we don't use Old World supplies to find it in the New World? Just so we can get the full experience of it and everyone can get involved who wants to. Which would mean finding another Nether Fortress in the New World, collecting blaze rods and enderpearls and then tracking down a stronghold. Aaaaanyway. This is mainly for the benefit of Hula: I marked the way through the Nether Fortress to where the spawners are, because it's a long, confusing route. When you're in the stronghold, find the sandstone blocks I've placed and follow them, keeping them on your left. They go out through the wall of the ruin and up onto a very ruined road and then into a tunnel. Keep following the sandstone at every junction and you'll find the spawners. The new world looks really pretty; I look forward to having a good look around. Can I suggest we establish a village around the lake, as has already begun? And I repeat my suggestion that we build smaller personal dwellings there and expend our creativity on the wider area. Oh, and animals have been pushing each other over the fences ringing the farm so I think we need to make those twice as high (I'd just come out of the Nether and didn't have any supplies to hand to do it myself). On the topic of PVP, is there a mod that'll let us have PVP in a small, specific area (aka, in an arena) and not in the world at large? Having it off is really useful when fighting mobs with friends so you're not accidentally stabbing, shooting and decapitating your allies. --- *For comparison, rough co-ordinates for...Genesis (Star Gate): x: -25 z: 56 Exoddus (Star Gate): x: -982 z: 2675 Portal to the Nether Fortress and Blaze spawners where there may also be a stronghold: x: -3484 z: 6953 |
Neat, I was hoping to find some chests really. But thanks for finding them Blazes.
|
I’ve only explored it on Tiny render distance, but the seed ‘OWF Server’ has some very nice mountains and cave systems.
|
The seed “iwantanisolatedislandofegosnow” spawns you in the middle of a big grassy peninsula, with a ravine fairly close by.
