just remembered i saw Hoppity Goes To Town the other day, an hour and a half of glorious, 1940's cartoon animation. better than most of the new shit.

It can't possibly be worse than Prisoner of Azkaban.

I´m surprised you didn´t like that one.

Wings of Fire 07-21-2009 01:00 PM

I should have liked it, but the fact that Prisoner of Azkaban was my favourite book meant that the movie had so much more to live up to, and for me at least, didn't.

Except for the timethingy scene, that was pretty great.

Oh, and Lupin's portrayal as both man and wolf? No thanks.

used:) 07-21-2009 01:01 PM

Yeah, that werewolf blew pretty hard. I thought it had the best atmosphere out of all of them though.

Wings of Fire 07-21-2009 01:10 PM

I can't wait to see how they're going to translate five hundred pages of badly written cabin fever into the best part of two movies.

Anonyman! 07-21-2009 01:24 PM

I didn't read the last one. I know what happens, but I couldn't be arsed to read it.

That's how I've been, but I've resisted my urges to look at spoilers.

OANST 07-22-2009 06:32 AM

Voldemort dies.

Well, shucks.

Mac Sirloin 07-22-2009 01:28 PM

Saw Day of The Dead, I was impressed.

I watched Million Dollar Baby quite recently. It lived up to and beyond what I had heard about it.

Hazel-Rah 07-22-2009 02:41 PM

watchmen special edition, not impressed i was expecting more scenes with the bearnies

Wings of Fire 07-22-2009 02:45 PM

Because that wouldn't have grated the narrative like swiss cheese.

Hazel-Rah 07-26-2009 10:15 PM

probably, but we'll see how it turns out in the "black freighter" edition or whatyever they're calling it. the new scenes didn't really enhance the film though, i mean stuff like Veidt's secretary's fingers getting blown off are disgusting and totally unnecessary. even the sex scene betwen nite owl and laurie is extended all that wasted time could've been used to develop rorschach better, i was hoping for them to include the scene where that girl who was murdered brought her dress into the dry cleaner rorschach worked at, first time i saw the film i didn't understand what rorschach's mask was supposed to represent. it's still a great movie though, with way too much content for three hours, but i still think they wasted a lot of time on slow-motion fight scenes and nudity.

Wings of Fire 07-26-2009 10:22 PM

There's a line between 'But this was a movie about a deconstruction of the superhero comic books' and just plain awful narm, Watchmen straddles that line all the fucking way through.

The Alan Moore fanboy within me was very impressed, the adrenaline pumping part of me moreso and the actual film critic part of me much less.

Crashpunk 07-27-2009 01:12 AM

The last movie i saw was Star Trek. It was awesome.

Although watch Heroes and i couldn't take Spock seriously :D

MA 07-27-2009 02:25 AM

i managed to watch all of Passchendaele on You Tube, and in good quality. set in WW1 (which i haven't seen many films set then), the battle scenes were quite brilliant in my opinion, and very historically accurate.

the only thing that let me down was the vast love story running through it, which was fucking annoying. the final battle scene really shows how hard those poor chaps had it during WW1. utmost respect for them.

OddjobAbe 07-27-2009 05:06 AM

I watched The Poseidon Adventure last night. It always bugged me that the most irritating woman didn't die. She was such an awkward and useless bitch.

There's got to be a morning after...

I like WWI/II movies, but they tend to have that kind of crap running through them for absolutely no reason. Also I've only seen like two.

I wish my Teacher had given me my copy of Saving Private Ryan back, since it was the first movie I actually bought in awhile.

EDIT, oh yeah. My ma' got the first two discs of Season 2 of Mad Men. I don't get a whole lot of what's going on but goddamn are the opening credits good.

I missed the second season of Mad Men, but I really liked the first.

Mac Sirloin 07-27-2009 08:58 AM

It does seem like a really good show, but I'm watching the first two seasons of Arrested Development right now. Also I should probably watch the first season.

EDIT: Saw the new Harry Potter movie. It was pretty good, I guess. The lady in front of me fucking stank, though.

OANST 08-01-2009 08:12 AM

I went to the theatre and saw In The Loop yesterday. It was fantastic. I actually liked it better than the show (yes, I know. It is not technically a continuation of the show, as most of the actors are playing different characters). Anyway, if you haven't seen it, make sure that you do.

Alcar 08-02-2009 02:57 AM

The first few episodes of Wonderfalls. Brilliant!

Shame it was cancelled after one season :(

Alcar...

Leto 08-02-2009 03:57 AM

coraline anyone?

in 3D i was very unsatisfied.

Hazel-Rah 08-02-2009 07:03 AM

i liked it too

Laser 08-03-2009 03:40 AM

I watched Donnie Darko for the first time yesterday, now I have thought about it; I have decided it was a really touching film, although horrifying in the end.

OANST 08-03-2009 06:51 AM

The best made piece of nonsense ever.

Laser 08-03-2009 07:02 AM

Right at the end with Donnie laughing and the jet engine hitting him instead of missing him I basically stared at the screen in disbelief.

Also when Donnie's girlfriend died I just could not believe how almost flippantly it was shown

OANST 08-03-2009 07:12 AM

I actually tried to watch the sequel, S. Darko. It was everything that was wrong with Donnie Darko with nothing that was right. I turned it off less than half an hour in.
