Yes. ;)

Concerning Fan Corner, either keep Non-Oddworld Art and Literature in the same Zulag, or merge it with Oddworld Art and Literature. Consolidate and simplify, don't partition them across the forums.

Make the forums great aga1n :n

kjjcarpenter 02-02-2017 07:57 PM

Considering we're bringing back some focus to the Fan Corner, perhaps we could benefit from another moderator? Unfortunately, Splat doesn't appear to be nearly as frequent as he used to be—I think he posted once last year when Fennec attempted to relight the forges of the RPG forum.

Any nominations?

Guineapiglet. The only person who does not troll around. She is also very mature.

Lord Vhazen 02-03-2017 08:41 AM

I vote Manco. He seems like a very dedicated kind of person who puts thought into what he says vs my lazy ass. I haven't seen Guineapiglet much yet though or at least I don't remember her, so she could be a good one too.

Vlam 02-03-2017 09:40 AM

I vote Rory.

Varrok 02-03-2017 09:51 AM

FennecFyre is a good and respected moderator on Discord. Plus she cares about fanarts. I think that makes her a perfect choice.

RoryF 02-03-2017 02:05 PM

as much as i appreciate it vlam i cba to mod

fennec would make a sick mod imo

Vlam 02-03-2017 02:17 PM

FennecFyre lacks certain power to be a moderator. She is too soft-spirited.

She banned the biggest number of users out there, actually. They were all multis. She's exactly the right kind of person for the job.

Vlam 02-04-2017 06:13 AM

By the way, the ARG deserves its own subforum (as a quarantine measure).

JayDee 02-04-2017 06:53 AM

I'd be down to help moderate Fan Corner, although I definitely support the idea of FennecFyre being a moderator aswell, and I don't think I can nominate myself.

This like a thousand times.

Manco 02-04-2017 08:11 AM

It’s not really as if there’s a lot of other active threads in Oddworld Discussion though…

I'd argue that the ARG is hindering other Oddworld discussions.

I'd argue that the ARG is hindering other Oddworld discussions.

Other discussions can co-exist within the same subforum without reducing activity, though. One busy thread doesn’t take away traffic to the other threads.

I’d argue that creating a subforum to accommodate a one-off ARG campaign would be excessive partitioning – this is a temporary event, and the ARG discussion fits into Oddworld Discussion well without needing to be separated.

Vlam 02-04-2017 10:27 AM

And yet "Oddworld Let's Plays and Speedruns" has its own subforums (with only 215 posts)...

Crashpunk 02-05-2017 01:55 AM

You've got a fair point actually.

kjjcarpenter 02-05-2017 09:46 AM

If the ARG had its own forum, you could split up the puzzles into individual threads so you're not constantly tracking back and forth across fifteen pages, talking over each other, and discussing multiple ideas at once. Also, a mod could add a little note to the title of a puzzle once it has been solved, to avoid new members coming fresh from Twitter being confused and alienated.

Manco 02-05-2017 10:15 AM

The puzzles are already split by thread, and the way the ARG is structured it’s not easy to know in advance which parts end up being related and which parts are separate. You can’t easily break it down much further than “photo 2”, “photo 3” etc.

Xavier 02-05-2017 10:31 AM

The ARG has like two active threads at once tops. I don't think we need to do a whole sub-forum for it.

kjjcarpenter 02-05-2017 10:37 AM

Photo 1 could have been broken up into at least three threads, for different stages of the hunt. A 29-page thread is cumbersome for a normal topic, which is why Xavier split off the discussion portion; for a sprawling and complicated scenario like the ARG, it's cumbersome and loquacious.

I agree with Vlam. The point still stands: There's more reason for an ARG subforum than for Let's Plays and Speedruns. If it's good for the goose, it's good for the gander.

The reverse arguement can also be made: Consolidate Let's Plays and Speedruns with another forum.

Nate 02-05-2017 12:09 PM

The Let's Plays subforum is legitimate because anyone could make a thread in it at any time in the future. The ARG is a temporary event, so a subforum would be a waste of time to set up.

Also, a hell of a lot more people were complaining about Let's Plays in OD than have ever complained about the ARG.

The way I see it, the let's plays should always be around somewhere at least because these forums provide a kind of advertising to a game that honestly not too many people know about. We gotta keep the oldies alive for the younger generations to see!

The ARG is a temporary event, so a subforum would be a waste of time to set up.

1. There's already 13 threads related to the ARG (3,307 posts).

2. The majority of new members are only on OWF for the ARG.

3. OWI might do more ARGs for future games (think about the "Spoiler Forum").

Sybil Ant 02-05-2017 10:50 PM

So we're just gonna seclude new Oddworld games in their own subforums and have an empty OD? What's the point? This is the only active thing OWI is releasing to us, hence it should go in OD.

Oh my GOD... looking through there I'm seeing so many names I used to lurk on back in the day. I hope these guys aren't dead.... I haven't seen Red Muse, T-Nex or Dripik in years...

Why is this important all of the sudden?

Vlam 02-07-2017 08:07 AM

I didn't say it was "important". It's just that I didn't know.

Good times. Remember this?

Vanilla ✜ 02-09-2017 02:09 AM

I think one thing that may have contributed to the near death of this forum was that new users couldn't join, the account confirmation email wouldn't come through, for me at least. I was apart of this forum about 8-6 years ago but I couldn't remember my username or anything.

Varrok 02-09-2017 02:48 AM

Yeah it was a big problem, the "contact us" button also doesn't work so basically if not for this ARG it may not have been fixed. Thankfully it was though, it's nice to be back.

FennecFyre 02-09-2017 04:52 PM

Just now found out people were discussing new Fan Corner mods. I don't mind taking the job if the admins decide to bring in new folks, but I also think J_Dude would be a good choice as well.

That's all I really have to say on the matter :x
