This.

Especially when it comes to the logo, I still can't understand what everybody is complaining about.

Everyone's entitled to voice their opinions and thoughts, though, surely? Hopefully those that don't like the logo will look past it in the game itself. :)

Good luck at E3. I wish I could check it out. Do you guys think there will be a live stream?

Thanks dude, appreciated. Live stream? We're doing everything we can to ensure as many people see the game as possible.

Why's everyone talking about ghost Scrabs, the ghost Paramites were the first thing I saw and loved! The way that there's Paramite and Scrab skeletons littering the ground in that scene make my bloomers burst.

Speaking of which, have any of you considered that maybe, rather than the gritty vision of Oddworld being pomped up/ruined for a post-Avatar sci-fi audience, the original vision was colourful and dramatic, and that was toned down to fit in with the '90s trend for brooding gloom and violence? Because as an owner of The First Ten Years, that's what I'm inclined to think.

That’s perfectly valid, but the first thing that springs to mind is that George Lucas’ “original vision” for Star Wars didn’t quite translate to the original trilogy.

That’s a stupidly extreme reply and I’m not trying to compare NnT to Star Wars at all, but going back to the original vision doesn’t always improve the experience. Sometimes a more limited product is stronger.

Anyway, regarding the new RuptureFarms – wasn’t there an older trailer which featured the original building? I seem to remember there being a short trailer which adapted part of the opening cutscene, and it definitely had a matte painting with the original RuptureFarms in it. Was that just JAW using what they had at the time and the original building won’t be used, or does it still exist in some form?

Molluck's eyes could use some fixing in that particular shot. Just looks like he has big yellow eyes instead of a yellowish glow. It's shots like these that make me miss the true CGI clips. The in-game rendering makes it look so cartoony sometimes :fuzsad:

:

()
I love how many people are making commands as if they are in charge of the creation of this game. JAW clearly value the opinions of fans but you are not a developer, thus have no control over what is/isn't put in the game.

No-one is making commands. We're giving either an opinion or a piece of advice as long time fans of the franchise. One would think that opinion is worth something.

Jordan 06-06-2014 04:46 AM

My problem isn't that people have these opinions it's with how they voice them sometimes. Saying "This must be changed" makes one sound like a petulent and ungrateful child. There are far better ways of wording an opinion/distaste.

Why didn't they let a fan do the logo, then? A fan, who is good at creating logos.

They did. The t-shirt guy. Then Lorne took the design and revised it. Or it might be the other way around.

Considering how upset people are about this, I think it's probably for the best that we don't know who to blame.

Pirfsich 06-06-2014 05:40 AM

Good job Varrok, for not knowing who designed the Logo.

Well, of course. No disagreements from me there.

DrewCameron 06-06-2014 07:26 AM

I love what I saw in the trailer; changes included.

Please re-consider the music. It's inclusion is surely a mistake and I think this verdict has been nearly unanimous on forums, oddworlds website, on facebook and youtube. It has to be asked; is there a good reason for this consensus and criticism? The answer is yes.

STM 06-06-2014 07:41 AM

Yeh OWF, change the music for a trailer that will be redundant within the next few months. Dear god, what were you thinking, letting a fan with an amazing voice sing for the New'n'Tasty trailer? How could you be so stupid as to choose a song that embodies the spirit of Abe's journey within the story? Why didn't you copy every single facet of the original game?

Fuck sake get your acts together, I know I speak for everyone ever when I say, you guys have got it all wrong!

It's not a mistake, at all. It might not scream classic Oddworld, but it's absolutely what we wanted to show for this E3 trailer.

Rest assured that the in-game music is much, much closer to what you were expecting - and for very good reason - but our trailer music is exactly that.

Sorry you don't think it's a good fit, though.

lol I hope everyone reads this post.^
Put yourself in the bands shoes. How great would it feel to be put in like that? I make music myself and even if it is industrial/metal/synth/dance music with some sexy high pitch/low tonal scream vocals with a banjo/harpsichord, Id feel so honored and id say put that in if you like it without hesitation.

Its pretty bro-tier of JAW and OI to ask fans if they want to be a part of the game. I mean, in some aspect, all of us here are and have something we liked/discussed in the game. Our own personal input. However I would laugh very hard if the lead singer of the band was on another forum on the internet bitching about slig visors not being different from the ones we all love and know lol.

Sorry you don't think it's a good fit, though.

I think it's okay for one trailer.

Scrabaniac 06-06-2014 08:47 AM

The music isn't terrible. The only reason i cannot see it fitting is because it is lyrical, and Oddworld has never had any lyrical music content before. The emotion of the song fits the story well, kinda. I think everyone would think it suited more if they used the instrumental for this song. The mechanical sounds fit the industrial theme and the piano and other instruments suit the emotions that the story of Abe's Oddysee portray. I think that this song could mean quite a lot to the creators of New 'n' Tasty too, telling us viewers about how they have loved Oddworld from the start and the motivation they have had to recreate this masterpiece of a game. It also adds a shock factor for the audience to hear someone singing, getting people hyped up and talking about the game more. This is my two cents anyway, everyone has their own opinion :)

Nepsotic 06-06-2014 09:02 AM

It's not the fact that it has lyrics, it's just the style in general.

That's totally different. I'd say yes if they wanted to put my music in the trailer knowing full well it won't fit, so what's your point?

There's a difference between changing something for the sake of it and changing it for the better. Just because the lyrics capture the journey doesn't mean the song does, otherwise they could just use 500 Miles by The Proclaimers.

Note: I've completely gotten over the logo and I don't care about the music seeing as it's just a trailer, but it doesn't mean I won't argue when people say stupid shit. It's still a shitty logo.

DrewCameron 06-06-2014 09:27 AM

New Paramonia comparison looks amazing; the temples are a 100% success !

I object to it being in the credits, not the trailer. I don't want to finish the journey with a rock song and I'm concerned that this decision seemed appropriate to someone.

Nepsotic 06-06-2014 09:45 AM

Probably Lorne. We should just blame him for all the issues.

Oziah 06-06-2014 10:08 AM

The inclusion of the song in the end credits is the only thing that bothers me too. For a trailer it doesn't matter. A fan gets her (very good) song used by OWI in promotional material, and the actual trailer itself was fine too.

But yeah, just seems like it will be out of place in the credits. After all the tension in the end cutscene, and the sacred temple where all the mudokons are celebrating Abe, I think it will be jarring to switch to this particular song. The original ended with the same music it opened with, causing it to be just as mysterious as when the game is initially turned on. I get there must be changes, but this song would suit something like the Stranger's Wrath credits far more than Oddysee's, if it had to be in anything.

That's my take anyways :)

Still, massively excited for what's coming over the following days!!!!

DrewCameron 06-06-2014 10:14 AM

Can I just let this be known real quick, for Stewart and Alex and JAW;

When I was a little boy (with quite geeky dreams), I played AO and it blew me away. It created a lifelong pursuit of creative work. As I said earlier, I work in games development and animation now as a very direct result of AO.

I often used to dream someday of a Playstation with inifinite power that could create a photo real AO so I could really get inside the wonderful environments and feel the cold air of the stockyards or the sun in the desert. This is the power of AO.

JAW have brought my dreams true. I am a fully grown man with a home, girlfriend, car etc. Nothing excites me more in the past year and a half than thinking of playing this new game and finally fulfilling a powerful childhood wish. (and really, childhood wishes, whatever they may be, are the most powerful of all).

Thank you JAW for making this possible, and please understand the immense creative weight and importance of this universe to (many) people like me. Hence why we feel that including this song is a particular travesty, if you must know. It may even be said it bursts a bubble that was created 15 years ago. I'll say it one last time and then be quiet; please remove it.

Other than that, I am very very happy with what is happening.

Scrabaniac 06-06-2014 10:19 AM

Same thing for me! This has been my favourite game since childhood and i would still rather play the Oddworld Series rather than GTA, CoD, and all that other crap. The story of Abe has actually helped me throughout my life because like him, in reality i AM the small skinny guy who has a lot of problems, and the story is about standing up to the big guy, which is why 2 years ago i drew a tribal version of the Oddworld Inhabitants Logo and had it tattooed on my back. Without Oddworld, i wouldn't be as confident and emotionally strong as i am today. So thank you Lorne, for being an amazing artist and storyteller who has had a massive impact on not only my life, but many others. And thankyou JAW for letting me Relive my childhood in the hopes that one day i can share this mindblowing story with my children :)

Nepsotic 06-06-2014 10:38 AM

GTA is awesome.

MeechMunchie 06-06-2014 11:19 AM

Nepsotic 06-06-2014 12:10 PM

I only like what Oddworld fans dislike.

Job McYossie 06-06-2014 12:18 PM

Speaking of the song again. I really liked it, even if not in context. Does anyone know where I could download or purchase the song?

Varrok 06-06-2014 12:22 PM

There

Crashpunk 06-06-2014 12:53 PM

Well shit. I'm away for 2 days and a new trailer comes out...

(Prepare for a long post, which will be repeating in a upcoming video.)

Okay. First things first the Music. I liked the song. She was a beautiful singer and the fact she is a Oddworld fan is a massive honor, which is really nice to hear about. However I do agree that it didn't really fit the trailer. It did make the whole thing very emotional sure, as if it was directed at Abe. But it didn't relate anything! (Anything I wrote on YouTube about the music fitting the theme, yeeeah no I've changed my mind)

The new scenes. I'm a bit gutted they changed Rupture Farms if I'm honest. I try to avoid nitpicking little things but this to me is a huge deal. As much as I like the design (as a design), I don't think it fits what Rupture Farms is. A dirty, polluted, unhygienic hell hole. Heath & Safety worst nightmare. This looks too clean, modern and... well not a meat processing plant.

I fucking adore the imaginary of the Scrab and Paramite ghosts, best new thing they've added by far. It really fits Abe's Oddysee and makes you feel even more sorry for the creatures that are being killed at Rupture Farms. Mixing that with the older scenes will be perfect. :(

The boardroom looks good, Mollock looks great and the image of Lulu took me my surprise. Perhaps a bit of foreshadowing to a future Oddworld game? Or I'm I looking too much into it again? (probably the latter, I'm good at doing that.)

What I noticed a lot in this trailer is that the particles that work with the lighting are looking bloody fantastic. The scene where Mollock is electrocuted, the Mudokons chanting and the lighting from the signs looks bright and mesmerizing.

Adding the masks to the native Mudokons is a small thing, but I think it works well. Plus it relates to how Big Face has one.

And finally. The logo. Yeaaaah the logo. It's not going to be changed, It never was. But I always had that little glimmer of hope that they tweaked it a bit.

And that's that. It's great to see the game is finally at it's final stages. Won't be long to play my most anticipated game ever!

:

Also, they should have added a quote to the trailer saying "Abe's toes aren't blue enough" - Oddworld Forums.

Nepsotic 06-06-2014 01:22 PM

I actually really love the remade scene of Abe running into the Monsaic Lines, it looks so much more grand and epic.
Crashpunk, it looks like whenever you criticize Oddworld or JAW you were crying apologetically as you wrote the post.

TOO CLEEEEANNNNN

Also, I'm insanely bothered that the very first thing introduced in the game has been changed so significantly? Just visually the original and the new version are so drastically different, it's going to have an impact of the overall tone of the game and how the story's executed.

This wouldn't be a problem if it weren't a remake of the first game in the series. I don't care if this "fits the original vision better" or not. The game and story of AO were presented a certain way. It was published. Completely changing it after it's been out there for well over a decade is like punching everyone who ever fell in love with the original team's work and how it was portrayed right in the genitals and twisting your fist a little to add additional injury.

You can still progress a story into the direction you initially wanted to go and people will be able to ease into that pretty well?? Why would you completely change how a story started like that???????? The story told might be the same, but the way it's told can have a huge impact on people YOU KNOW

Pretty sure that's just a way of connecting the story and acknowledging the events pre MO. Lulu was constantly laughed at for being a lazy fuck in-universe anyways.

Holy Sock 06-06-2014 02:37 PM

Bit of an overreaction, no? I mean I'd get what your saying if the whole aesthetic of the game had been changed dramatically but Rupture Farms? I dunno.

My views are quite opposite. If e.g. Valve decided to remake HL2, I'd much rather see their original vision instead of recreation of what we've already seen. Original visions have a tendency to be better than final visions, because of no time/money constraint etc.
