You may be surprized how complex story the game has. It rarely shows it, at some point you might forget it even has a story.

Ridg3 05-24-2014 03:18 PM

It's out free for Xbox live Gold users in June, as well, it really is worth checking out. The only thing that's bad about it is the low level invasions. That shit was hard.

But that's my plan for the whole of June. Red eye the undead burg with my SL1.

Mr. Bungle 05-25-2014 11:51 PM

Aha, I had a feeling Dark Souls talk would awaken Ridg3 from his coma! Sup man?

I've got the game on Xbox 360. Level 43 right now, and the game is seriously starting to kick my ass. Hard.

I can barely scratch the Gaping Dragon before he decimates me, the Catacombs seem nearly impossible as of now (FUCKING SKELETONS NEVER DIE), the ghosts in the New Londo ruins are simply overhwhelming, and that Hydra in the Basin? Fuck that, can't even get close to it. Oh, and the valley of Drakes seems to be pretty far outta my league, too. Guess I gotta grind.

Did read some good strategies on beating the sewer dragon, though. Lightning seems to be my friend. Just not sure if my weapons are really, well, good enough. Rockin' a crystal straight sword and a Halberd +5, and generally they're great, but against the Gaping Dragon? They're like plastic forks and knives on a fat man. Ineffective. Also took me ages to defeat that giant donkey dick wielding motherfucker in the tower that connects the Basin to the Burg.

Guess it's just trial and error. Constant.. trial... even... more.. error.

yet I can't get enough of it

Crashpunk 05-26-2014 02:37 AM

Enjoying the absolute shit out of Wolfenstein: The New Order.

It's an excellent shooter with great visuals, plot and setting. It's also a good throwback to the original.

I would say Shadow Warrior is a better game if your looking for a old school style shooter as it's got much better shooting mechanics and it has the best melee weapon in a fps ever.

You're darn tooting, in fairness, I miss DS1 and I can't even play it :'( but yeah, man, hit me up on Xbox Live; Gamertag is my OWF tag... easy enough. I'll be going gold, as I said, for June.

Trust me when I say that you'll wish you were back to square one. The game is laughably easy once you know the ropes. You have the DLC?

I've been playing Tropico 4, at the minute, and even though Sim games aren't really my style, this one has got its hooks in me. Maybe I get a slight rush out of being El Presidente and having the authority to eliminate strikers/protesters/competition/unemployed/foreigners and/or anyone else I desire with a tip of my dictatorial hat.

Mr. Bungle 05-29-2014 03:33 AM

Don't have DLC, no. Just the regular game. Gaping Vagina Dragon is giving me some trouble but I think I'm ready to take it on after learning you can cut off it's tail (that's a seriously fucking cool mechanic that more games need to implement). Too bad I wasted all the lightning enchants before I found it was a dragon's bane..

...and I think I just wasted like 20k souls on a keystone that I could've gotten for free pretty easily.

fuck this game

Oh, and has anyone here ever played Monster Hunter? Might pick it up after watching ProJared's One Minute Review of it. Kinda reminds me of Dark Souls. Except Capcom. And I fucking love Capcom.

Ridg3 05-29-2014 04:06 AM

Andre wouldn't relinquish that key so easily, he'd drop kick you from the parish to the burg. Besides, you really don't want to go killing off NPC's... it can very easily fuck up your play, I still remember killing Laurentius by accident, bad times. There is another, free, way into the forest, all the same.

git gud scrub.

Mr. Bungle 05-29-2014 04:09 AM

I thought you could get the keystone from the Hydra.

I wouldn't dream of killing Andre, he's fucking metal.

Ridg3 05-29-2014 04:41 AM

I get you now, but no, the Hydra doesn't drop it but that is the other way into the forest.

I recommend going through the gateside, it's loads of fun.

Mr. Bungle 05-29-2014 10:38 AM

I beat the gaping vagina dragon!!! Time to celebrate by drooling over an axe I probably won't be able to use for another 30 levels.

Woohoo.

Oh yeah and I'm about to boot up Black & White for the first time in years. Game's a big part of my childhood. Always sucked at it back then (could never, ever get past world 3) but now I feel I'm ready. Ready.. to become... the ultimate God.

OANST 06-03-2014 10:12 AM

Super Time Force. It's like Contra mixed with Braid after smoking crack. Very fun. Not terribly hard to play, but extremely challenging to get really good at. There's a lot of strategy involved if you want to get good times on the levels, and unlock all the characters, but you can brute force your way through it if time challenges aren't your thing.

MeechMunchie 06-07-2014 01:18 PM

I've almost completed Nimble Quest, and I've really enjoyed my time with it. It's basically Realm of the Mad God crossed with Snake, with cutesy character designs for pretty much every RPG stereotype you can think of.

Wings of Fire 06-07-2014 01:44 PM

I caught Ghost Trick Phantom Detective and Last Window: The Secret of Cape West at a gamestore a couple of days ago. Two of my holy grails of gaming alongside The World Ends With You.

Ghost Trick is as amazing as I was dreaming it would be.

Dynamithix 06-07-2014 02:12 PM

I bought Jet Set Radio Future on eBay a while ago because I've been wanting to play that game for a long time now and it's pretty great, I'm kinda stuck at one part now though, missing one graffiti and I don't know where it is...

I also cleaned the dust off my 3DS and started playing Animal Crossing New Leaf again, it's the perfect summer game definitely.

Ghost Trick Phantom Detective

Man that game was so good, the soundtrack is great and Missile is the cutest side character ever. The main plot twist was also pretty wicked.

Job McYossie 06-07-2014 03:56 PM

JET SET RADIOOOOOOOOOO~

Seriously, that game is good. The soundtrack is fan-fucking-tastic though.

Dynamithix 06-07-2014 04:14 PM

The soundtrack would be great if this little beauty wasn't on it...

The World Ends With You.

I started this the other day and totally loved it. I didn't get very far through it, and I haven't had a chance to get back to it, but the battle system looks really interesting. I never thought that I'd enjoy a real time game revolving around the stylus so much.

Plus it has a great style. Definitely keen to get back into more soon.

Well first off, I enjoy this song, but whatever, personal tastes.

Secondly, and more importantly, this song wasn't in Jet Set Radio, it was in the sequel.

I've been playing Risen, thanks to the most recent humble bundle. The game is a lot of fun, but rather difficult. You have to be careful with enemies. No rushing. Even the little monsters can hurt a lot. The plot can get stupid at times. Often it's "Do work for me and I'll give you gold" with an overall tone of "GOLD RULES!!!" The main character is witty and fun though.

Oh, I was under the impression we were talking 'bout JSRF because that's the one, you know, I was talking about in the first place. But yeah, the original Jet Set Radio is definitely better in my opinion, not a bad song on that soundtrack.

Manco 06-08-2014 11:21 AM

Over the weekend I marathoned Hogs of War, because I demoed it for a friend and remembered how much fun it was in places. It’s kind of a PS1-era 3D Worms game if you’ve never heard of it.

It can also be an absolute shitheel of a game in the later levels – the final few levels took more of my time than the rest of the game combined, and the final level is 100% impossible unless you’ve been playing perfectly and gotten every single possible collectible upgrade point the entire game. Or you cheat.

Varrok 06-08-2014 12:00 PM

I played Hogs of War. I really liked it. It's really good and really fun. Another game worth my Seal of Approval

Oh shoes. I'm genuinely sorry, I misread the first post about it and missed the word "future." I take my sassy response back.

I've been playing Child of Light. It's so surprising to see such a female-dominated game, especially coming from Ubisoft. It's refreshing. Might be on the simple side but very beautiful and is fun.

Make sure to come back and mention if you found the constant leveling up of multiple characters after pretty much every fight to be as tedious as I finally did. I really liked the game, but it needed more depth, and, at the very least, double the xp before leveling.

I do completely agree. When you play most JRPGs or even Western RPGs there is quite a bit of spacing between levels and in this it becomes more of a tedious thing to add skill points when it should be more enjoyable. Coupled with the fairly basic skill progression it does become quite a big flaw and an improvement in a potential sequel would be welcomed.

Job McYossie 06-21-2014 07:59 PM

Oh my gosh.

Thanks to Meech, I've been playing Multiwinia. This game is incredibly intense. Like, seriously. I have played only one real match so far but wow. What impresses me is that this game is not very complex. Most of anything you do is simple, but the way it is presented makes it feel like so much more.

STM 06-21-2014 08:59 PM

Banished and the DLCs for Victoria II.

Banished isn't half bad, it does become a wee bit repetitive though.

Crashpunk 06-22-2014 02:04 AM

I randomly tried out Borderlands 2 with my mates last night.

It's a very fun co-op game and it is very addictive, however I have a problem with the sheer amount of weapons that the game has. I spend so much time going through my inventory and swapping out weapons. Perhaps it's my OSD to find the best weapon possible.

I've also been playing Wario World for my channel. I like it, however after playing it for a good 3 hours, I've started to notice that all the enemies are the same just with reskins and there is a lack of variety in the moves, granted the moves are satisfying as hell. Oh and every time you fall down a pit, you have to do this stupid, pointless minigame to get back to the level. So frustrating.

I'm currently doing a blind playthough at the minute. Feel free to check it out.

Dynamithix 06-22-2014 05:03 AM

I've been desperately trying to get through the second level in Risk of Rain but so far no luck. I did find a teleporter once though, just didn't survive long enough to use it. Didn't expect the game to be like this honestly, thought it was a basic 2D platformer lol. Enjoying it a lot though.

I also started playing Arx Fatalis, an RPG by Arkane, the guys who made Dishonored. It required a fan-made patch to get it running smoothly but so far I like it, it's not really open world but it kind of reminds me of Morrowind. I picked it up in the 2013 Steam summer sale, not sure how much it currently costs but I recommend it if you're looking for an early 2000's RPG with a cool spell system.

RoR is stupidly hard. In a good way.

BL2 is alright, never really had good people to play with.

Manco 06-22-2014 05:21 AM

Last night I spent a good few hours playing AC: Black Flag. I hated Assassin’s Creed 3, but as it turns out all the people saying Black Flag was a much better game were right. It’s got all the bits of Assassin’s Creed series that are fun, plus the sailing and ship-to-ship combat that was in AC3 have been majorly expanded on and holy shit it’s so much fun to just tear apart navy ships with cannons and then board it and sword all the crew.

It helps that so far the main player character’s just been so much more likeable than Connor ever was. Dude just could not give a shit about about anything, he just wants to get rich.

ikr

It's basically the world's only party RTS. Something like Starcraft is so complex that people struggle to get into it. Multiwinia is more like a cross between Galcon and Worms - within seconds of starting, everyone understands what to do, and from then on it's just escalating chaos.

Outlast, man that game is rustling my jimmies.

Vyrien 06-23-2014 01:57 AM

I played Outlast and found it boring as hell.

It tries too hard.

Phylum 06-23-2014 02:16 AM

You can't say tries too hard until you've seen the DLC.

You can't un-see that shit. There's a line between creepy yet relevant, and deliberately trying to be shocking. The genital mutilation was waaaaaaaaaay over that line.

Also what the fuck was up with the ending of the DLC when they just totally ignored that the Miles/Wallrider thing just walked out of the facility? I know they hinted at a sequel before that, but just leaving something so major hanging out there is pretty dumb. Especially so because they had the scene right at the end with the Australian, but didn't even mention the effect of a super-nanoswarm man let loose in society.

Varrok 06-23-2014 09:18 AM

I recommend Arx Fatalis. I haven't finished it yet, though

Slog Bait 06-24-2014 09:17 AM

Not playing this right now but oh hey look, a proper survival horror game.
