Maybe it works like Alyx Vance's gun?

Havoc 10-04-2012 10:50 AM

Cool, they put in the Glukkon furnaces from AE :D. Those weren't in AO right?

Nepsotic 10-04-2012 11:14 AM

No, they're like RF's version of the Bonewerkz furnaces, I think they look great.

JennyGenesis 10-04-2012 11:47 AM

I'm curious about the LCD screen saying "To 7". To me, the number would indicate a control on a computer keyboard, but what sentence could possibly end with "to 7"?

LIJI 10-04-2012 11:51 AM

Considering it's green it's a message to the player. Maybe "You can speak by pressing keys 1 to 7"? That would mean 2 gamespeak options were removed. Probably Anger and Laugh since they had no use in AO.

Varrok 10-04-2012 11:56 AM

No mystery for you, JG

Xavier 10-04-2012 12:38 PM

Seems I'm late to the party, but WOW! Congratulations to JAW on this New 'n' Tasty footage, it actually got me excited again about this project. They realy managed to make RuptureFarms feel alive. The only thing that annoys me in this footage is the gamespeak, but I'm sure that's due to it being Pre Alpha

Keep up the good work!

Why does 7 have to be the last number?

OANST 10-04-2012 12:41 PM

There are plenty of numbers after 7, stupid.

Are we even speculating about LED messages now? Come on...

If that was true that would mean only one gamespeak option was removed. Nine never had any purpose. Stupid nine.

Oh right, silly me. But they probably added All o'ya so it makes sense.

Varrok 10-04-2012 12:58 PM

If they added anything, it would use more keys, not less.

It's not a message to the player. The exception was the "how to hoist" message BB-88 created as a test, but every other LED screen message in the work so far has been done by me and is in-universe.

:

I supplied the artists with 20 possible LED messages to use, five of each colour: red for ads, orange for messages to Sligs, green for messages to Mudokons, purple for announcements to everyone.

I meant removed Laugh and Anger and added All o'Ya. But Wil already ruined my conspiracy theory. :(

You're doing all the LED messages? I demand easter eggs only OWF veterans will understand.

Bullet Magnet 10-04-2012 05:24 PM

MAN, WHAT A DICK.

Havoc 10-04-2012 07:06 PM

Do not mention the Z-word.

MULL THAT OVER

e: Ne page makes my comment look out of place.

Consider this an official warning, squeak117. When a moderater does some moderating, it's time to get back on topic.

Fun fact: If you played on Ajiellyn's Oddworld Furcadia dream, you might recognize a couple of them.

I haven't :(

Wil 10-05-2012 05:42 AM

Not all 20 are actually in, and I'm not 100% sure any of them can be read in their entirity.

Varrok 10-05-2012 05:42 AM

@Havoc, Me too, that's why I think it's lame. Not every OWF veteran visits Fan Corner often/at all

OANST 10-05-2012 06:07 AM

If Alcar would just go ahead, and sell me the site, there wouldn't be a Fan Corner.

SLICO SECURITY: BEATING QUOTAS AT RUPTUREFARMS!....................GET YUR ELUM CHUB ON! ODDWORLD'S FINEST LUNCHBOX GLOOP.....................PACKAGING MEAT IN YOUR PANTS IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN.....................

For those using Chrome (which can't handle Marquees):

Slico Security: Beating quotas at RuptureFarms!

Get yur Elum Chub on! Oddworld's finest lunchbox gloop.
(Originally I read this as: Get yur Elum Chubs on Oddworld's (unreadable) best lunchbox glop.)

Packaging meat in your pants is strictly forbidden.

EDIT: F'xd.

EDIT: And the Elum Chub message.

marlz 10-05-2012 07:01 AM

Haha, those were indeed nice little touches.
The Elum Chubs live on! ...even if their poster artwork is stupidly difficult to find (in the AO demo or just on the net).

pupbenny 10-05-2012 07:22 AM

Purples a bit of a funny colour for the LED messages I think.... it just seems out of place in a place that's meant to be dark like Rupture Farms.

Nepsotic 10-05-2012 07:23 AM

I guess you don't remember Zulag 3, then.

Hehehe, gold star to you. For the record, letter-for-letter (including unseeable capitalization) they are:
  • SligCo Security: Beating Quotas at RuptureFarms!
  • Get yur Elum Chub on! Oddworld’s finest Lunchbox gloop.
  • Packing meat in your pants is strictly forbidden.

I don't know why 'Lunchbox' is capitalized.

You want to know the [semi-]answer to one of the longest-lasting fandom questions? The massive carcassing in the opening movie that are too big to be anything we know are meant to imply that RuptureFarms rips apart many more species than just Scrabs, Paramites, Elums and Meeches.

DarkHoodness 10-05-2012 07:33 AM

Hehe, thanks. :) I have a good eye for detail - The Elum Chub one was a little hard to make out, originally I read this as: Get yur Elum Chubs on Oddworld's (unreadable) best lunchbox glop.

EDIT: New LED screens are always a plus though, they're fun little details. I'm glad you're adding new messages. :) Will the classic ones also stay?

Bullet Magnet 10-05-2012 08:45 AM

When I was young, Oddworld was so mysterious and eerie. The messages on the LEDs were written by faceless bastards in Rupture Farms somewhere. Now I know the guy who writes them, and while playing I'll be thinking "I know the guy who wrote these. His fingerprints are all over it." Because I've read Wil's writing long enough to spot his work.
