Good luck getting anything to run properly with Wine - In my experience, if it works, you're lucky - But if it doesn't, it's a pain in the arse and depends on so many damned variables. Shame really - I'd be using Linux otherwise.

Dipstikk 06-04-2011 06:30 PM

It's never occurred them to create a user-friendly version for people who aren't computer geniuses?

Nate 06-04-2011 11:52 PM

Most of the people who need to use Wine are computer geniuses.

Phylum 06-04-2011 11:59 PM

That's probably because they're the only ones that can.

I got a new laptop with an Intel HD card and now I can't run Stranger's Wrath. It'll show the loading screen, the steam community thing will pop up, then the screen will just freeze. I can hear and control the game, but I can't see anything.

EDIT: Actually, I seem to be having a similar issue for both 2D games. Oddysee gets frozen on the screen that has all the OWI info (whatever it's called, the black screen with the white letters, you know what I mean I never bothered to read it). Exoddus plays all the opening CGI fine, but after the transition into the main menu the screen freezes again. Both games can be played... If I was that one blind kid.

Intel's OpenGL drivers are shit, there's basically nothing you can do.

As for this, I have no idea. I know there's one or two folks out there with similar AO/AE issues, but as far as I've seen no-one knows what the underlying problem is.

If you're on Windows 7, you could try using the Compatibility Mode settings, but I don't know if that would help.

So no chance of JAW fixing this huh? Any other game I have (and that includes TF2, X3, GTA: SA, Serious Sam HD, command and conquer....) work fine, I don't see why oddworld has to be an exception. I am on windows 7, so I guess I'll try out compatibility mode stuff.

Varrok 06-05-2011 11:37 AM

None of the games you've named uses OGL (I guess), and no, it won't work on intel :/

Those games are all built on DirectX though, not OpenGL. Intel doesn't have problems with DX (at least as far as I know), hence why those games all work.

You'll run into some real problems with games built on OpenGL - I have an Intel chip myself, and Stranger's Wrath, Amnesia, and other OGL games won't work.

It's stupid, but it's Intel's fault, not JAW's.

metroixer 06-05-2011 11:56 AM

Hah, and amnesia is one of the games I wanted to buy and try out on my fancy new laptop. Ah well.

Stewart Gilray dropped some interesting info on the Steam forums, related to SW and MO's HD remakes: http://forums.steampowered.com/forum...8&postcount=12
:

We are still continuing to support PC, so much so that I'd like to announce here and now, that we WILL be releasing "Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee HD" on PC *AND* Mac later this year.

[...]

As you know we said we'd be releasing Stranger's Wrath HD on PC after the PS3 release. This is still the case and will be done as a title update, replacing the versions you already have. This is also true for Munch's Oddysee HD.

When we did the job on Stranger's Wrath we were given 5 months to do the work and did a pretty good job, but NOT the job we wanted to do, due to the time constraints, which is why we're offering EVERYONE the HD versions as a direct title update to the versions you have.

With regards to NEW PC titles, we are still supporting the PC, however we will be releasing console versions first, as we will be spending the time post console release updating the PC titles with extra features etc.
e: I asked a couple of questions about the HD update, here's Stewart's response: http://forums.steampowered.com/forum...9&postcount=14
:

1. Yes Stranger will still be OpenGL, but we are making some alterations to it so that it's OpenGL ES and not full OpenGL, this SHOULD sort out Intel stuff.

2. MO will still be DX based.

3. We'd not thought of that, as that means we'd have to support both data sets, and as we're making some changes to the data itself for the HD versions, in terms of it's format etc. likely NOT. BUT don't worry, it shouldn't have ANY knock on affect on the performance as the original XBox data on both games.

Phylum 06-15-2011 04:30 AM

So they're working on Munch HD to run on PC and Mac, but they're still using DirectX?

Am I missing something really obvious here?

Manco 06-15-2011 05:40 AM

Presumably the Mac version of Munch will be built on OGL, but the PC version will still be DirectX.

:

The engine we are using has multiple renderers, for different platforms :)

metroixer 06-20-2011 06:53 PM

Excellent news on the GL stuff, since it doesn't look like stranger HD will be out for 360.

Plexius 08-12-2011 10:24 AM

All games work great for me, except, im not sure why, but on stranger, i cant read the dialog options on menus ther just sribbled out squares and stuff? if you dont know what im talking about, ill post a pic later on this post.

Varrok 08-12-2011 12:15 PM

It's a common bug, it should be fixed by either updating your ATI drivers (assuming you've got and ATI card) and/or disabling Catalyst A.I. in CCC options

Plexius 08-12-2011 06:58 PM

How do i deactivate that? i dont see anything in the CCC wizard thing that would turn it off?

Plexius 08-17-2011 08:27 PM

Sorry for doublepost but i need some help here lol :P
