Haaaaaah, nice to read that having to wait till the PS3 release won't be such a bad thing. Tough luck for all you guys wanting to play Stranger in a decent way though.

Manco 12-20-2010 02:54 PM

You could also try Pinnacle Game Profiler, which works with most game controllers and lets you use them in games without built-in support.

You'll probably still need to get the drivers for your controller though.

Brun Croes 12-20-2010 03:02 PM

@AvengingGibbons:

I tried using those, they're a bit wonky, but it has no use, Munch crashes every 5 seconds now... and stranger won't booth. Even though my specs are more then good.

windows 7 64bit
i7 with 8gig ram
Ati 5750

Dynamithix 12-20-2010 03:05 PM

If JAW won't patch Munch, who will?

My MO crashed twice already, I only got like 30-40 spooce and then it crashed. The same thing happened when I was chanting the gate.

Otherwise, Munch for PC looks amazing somehow, I think it looks and controls a bit better than SW.

Manco 12-20-2010 03:06 PM

^^^We've currently got nothing to go on about MO - I've tweeted JAW about this, see what they say.

I'd recommend getting in touch with JAW/OWI about your specs and what issues you're having:
I did read a theory that ATI graphics cards aren't working very well here, but that's just anecdotal.

EDIT: Here's some good news for you guys:
:

@ErikRapson would you like the resolutions listed in the launcher directly?

@jawltd Yes. I'm pretty sure that most PC players are far more comfortable with clearly defined resolutions than approximated terms.

@ErikRapson well change it then :)
:

@jawltd any idea who we should be contacting about Munch's Oddysee issues?

@AmazingManco we'll pass it on

Thats the null pointer bug, I'm uploading a youtube vid of that issue but it will take over 8 hours to finish uploading! Seems to be a timing issues between movement or pressing enter?

Dynamithix 12-20-2010 03:24 PM

Don't know, for me it crashed the first time when I was in the first cavern jumping on the ledges and the second time when I jumped and started to chant the gate.

Also, what exactly is a 'null pointer'?

Manco 12-20-2010 03:24 PM

JAW has said they'll pass word about Munch's Oddysee on.

Also, just to confirm something:
:

@jawltd Please tell me that you accidentally shipped an older version of Stranger's Wrath or something.

@Silentman0 nope, and we have not had these issues in our office AT ALL
EDIT: Not entirely useful, but awesome nonetheless:
:

Woah, turns out @jawltd who ported Stranger's Wrath are effectively just down the road from me. That's a little freaky.

@JKeverne where are you?

@jawltd On edge of Yorkshire moors, but soon to be Leeds.

@JKeverne would you like to visit us with your kit? Help us iron out these issue? am serious

MO crashes after a few minutes jumpin around.

Yeah, we currently don't know who to report bugs to for Munch issues.
Apparently Munch has more customisation than Stranger in terms of controls, by the way.

Keep checking JAW Ltd.'s Twitter feed guys, that's our best source of info right now.

And make sure to CONTACT THEM with any bug reports you have:
EDIT: Also keep an eye on Oddworld's Facebook page:

:

For anyone experiencing graphical issues, please ensure you have the latest drivers for your video card.

If you do already we will direct you to www.oddworld.com to contact us via the soon to be opened "support page".
And I leave you with this smug prick:
:

Not getting any errors with any of the games, but that's probably to do with my PC not being shit.

Protip: the games require graphics cards...

Update your drivers for everything, make sure you have net frameworks and direct x's. Make sure your graphics card, computer is actually capable.

Minimum specs exist for a reason.

Third, the sound is messed up. The ambient/background music in the introduction cutscene is clearly audible while all the sound effects are buried underneath. It's impossible to hear what the characters say. It's also like this during gameplay, though it doesn't seem as bad.

That sounds to me like you're playing a 5.1 speaker game on stereo speakers. Is there any way to change the audio settings?

This is fascinating. We can actually watch people's progress through the game as the acheivements get knocked down, one by one.

Chubfish 12-20-2010 04:58 PM

I haven't experienced many issues; I crashed once in MO (problem Paul pointed out) but other than that MO is fine.

Stranger's Wrath runs awesomely; the framerate does drop occasionally so there is some sort of issue anyway with it, but it's fine to play for now. Controls were only very slightly finnicky until I got used to them but it's all fine now.

Kinda offtopic, but Paul, what is your Steam name? =P

How the hell are you avoiding that problem? I always get this:

Chubfish 12-20-2010 05:28 PM

Well I just tried it again; I started from the beginning. I can prove that I've left the cave since I have the achievement for it; however it crashed for me when loading Spooceshrub forest (nearer the end).

Would upload pictures videos but for now http://steamcommunity.com/id/Chubfis...b=achievements check my achievements too sleepy to care for today.

Dipstikk 12-20-2010 06:32 PM

I'll have to wait until my new video card arrives to be able to play these on a PC. Hopefully it won't be too much longer; I might just buy them now so I don't miss the sale.

metroixer 12-20-2010 08:12 PM

This is an absolutely shameful port. I have no idea how this got passed testing and quality control.

Spark 12-20-2010 08:25 PM

Is the opening cutscene for Strangers Wrath broken for everybody else? Right near the end it cuts out.

Apart from that the game plays well with my 360 controller, hopefully it's optimised more and made PC friendly in patches, but right now it works for me so I'm happy. EDIT: I take that back, the game freezes when I get to the town and the opening_end.bik movie is meant to play. The game is literally unplayable for me. I also suggest not charging for the graphics update next year, you're not going to win fans on the PC platform by charging them for updates, take the Valve approach and release it for free. Good publicity.

metroixer 12-20-2010 08:46 PM

Charging for an update for any PC game is stupid unless it's like a full blown expansion pack or something. The only reason companies like Activision charge for simple map updates in the Call of Duty games is because they can't stop eating money.

Paul 12-20-2010 08:51 PM

Its a good thing that they will NOT be charging for any updates then isn't it? That would be mental :P

MojoMan220 12-20-2010 08:59 PM

Changing the properties of Munch.exe to match this http://i.imgur.com/J9UN7.png might help those who can't get past the first stage without it crashing. It made the problem less occuring for me.

Well apparently the Oddworld facebook admin stated there may be a charge to download the HD content from the PS3 version, but I heard this on the Steam forums so you can take it with a grain of salt.

Unorthodox 12-20-2010 09:20 PM

That was their intention, but they had to cancel that when they realised how difficult it would be to set up a system equivalent to what OWI were using 13 years ago to (re-)compile the games.

You heard right, but a long time ago. More recently, like a month ago, they said that it's too hard to do so they dropped the idea. It's no loss really, I mean you know if you're achieving the right things in the games by the number of mudokon's you have saved. Plus the only thing the achievements can award you for is things that you have to do in game anyway so it's unnecessary.

Munch is seriously buggy :S The only sound that works is voices and then it crashed a minute in.

Thanks for the reply, sad to hear.

I know sod all really about the achievement system, but wouldn't it of been possible to have a small application running with Oddysee/Exoddus that simply checks the memory addresses of the game, then when the correct value is attained (i.e. complete the game with good ending), tah-dah you get an achievement? But as I say, I know nothing of how it all actually works lol :p

Stranger90 12-20-2010 09:47 PM

Talking about achievements, they lack of creativity whatsoever!

They are all story related expect for some achievements in Munch where you have to collect an amount of non-regenerated spooceshrubs!

Stranger could fit some nice achievements like "Capture all bossess" or "Buy all upgrades", but no, they are completely pointless, I was expecting more!

Even the achievements tiles have the same problem!

Really, why Oddworld Inhabitants, after creating such a wonderful and imaginary universe, cannot do the same with achievements? Big disappointment!

True. Sad, but true.

:

Because I am now apparently the thread's Twitter feed:
Quote:
@jawltd Fair point. I am kind of shocked at the Control Scheme menu graphics, though - who worked on that?
Quote:
@AmazingManco the problem with it is, it's Flash based, so we had limited restrictions to work within
I don't believe. Even if it's true, then they should have done it some other way. Gee, if the controls are really unchangeable, they could have just inserted a bitmap image instead! :|

:

Can't see how much RAM it has, but looks like it has sucky on board Intel GFX so I doubt it..

Edit:

"the ATI 3100 has 256 MB of dedicated memory and a 300 Mhz clock max and the GMA x4500M uses all shared mem but has a 380 Mhz"

Maybe I'm wrong then :P
I've got a notebook with this card (x4500) - Source Engine games (like HL2:EP2) runs perfectly on highest res & details, but e.g. Unreal Engine games laggs horribly - dunno how much GPU power does MO/SW port use, I think you can give it a try, though

I can understand lack of model/texture detail options in menu, but as for you said about SW resolution changer... It's just wrong. It sounds just bad. But better than NO SUCH option in Munch.

Never Sleeper 12-20-2010 11:16 PM

Thanks Paul for your advice to check my video card-driver. Now Stranger works properly well on Medium. Ultra is just to laggy. =/

But I'm a little bit disapointed about the controls. Who had the idea to change the ammo with the key coursers - If my hand is more nearly to the mouse-wheel?

Well and I've got the same problems like everyone with Munch. Before it starts the Spooce-Forest-Level it comes this failure message: http://www.fotos-hochladen.net/uploa...erkzas9y5j.jpg

I could just ignore it and it shows me the flying camera over the spooce Forest Level and then the game crushes. Pretty bad what Oddworld are delivering to us. =/

Varrok 12-20-2010 11:27 PM

Paul, one question: If you change res. in Stranger to an irregular one (by text file), does FOV change too? Or just stretched?

I don't know, they released this.

Keep in mind they never encountered these issues in testing - it's not like they were all "WELP GAME CRASHES BUT FUCKIT"

Also, new Oddworld.com post: For those experiencing technical issues with their Oddboxx

:

Remember: we love you guys and we hate to hear that you’re not having the time of your life with our games, because of technical issues we didn’t encounter in testing.

We’ve heard there are some technical issues being encountered, specifically within Munch’s Oddysee and Stranger’s Wrath. We had these games extensively tested and they both came back clean, so this has come as quite the shock to us.

We ARE working on solving these problems THIS VERY SECOND, and hope to have a patch out to nail all these problems in record time. In the meantime, please make sure if you’re experiencing difficulties, to drop your spec details below in the comments. Rest assured we are looking to fix everything we possibly can.
Nothing has been fixed yet, but considering how quickly they've gotten on top of this, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Anyway, worth saying again (and maybe putting in the OP): get all of your bug reports for Stranger's Wrath to JAW Ltd.
info@jawltd.com
http://twitter.com/jawltd
http://twitter.com/abemudokon
Make sure to include your PC's specs and details of any issues you are having.

For Munch's Oddysee, still no word on who to report bugs to. For now, maybe let JAW know there are issues, but don't worry about details since it won't be them fixing it. Alternatively, wait until we get some more info.

REMEMBER: Before you report bugs, check all your drivers are up-to-date!

Munch runs fine except for some random crashes. Also the keyboard controls just don't work for me, I wonder if I could get my ps3 controller to work with it (I only have wireless xbox360 controllers so I can't connect them to my computer)

Stranger is another story though, whenever I try to launch it, it tells me that the game is currently unavailable, I tried to verify the integrity of game cache (which went well) and tried to defragment the cache files (which also went without a hassle) but it keeps on telling me that the game is not currently available...

:(

Bought, downloaded and attempted to play Stranger but came up with this exact same problem. Meh. You could try following these tips to try and resolve it like I did, but they didn't work for me. Other games in my Steam work, so it's something to do with Stranger.

I'm hoping it'll work after they've released a patch to fix the bugs (JAW are releasing a patch, right? Right?), I'll be waiting.

Fred The Fuzzle 12-21-2010 12:13 AM

Anyone having my problem with stranger's wrath?

The mouse is inverted both on the X & Y axis, the options menu doesn't do anything please help, I really want to play it. :fuzemb:

Dipstikk 12-21-2010 12:15 AM

What a shame about the achievements. It's fun to get achievements randomly in games like TF2, for something even as simple as running a few meters as Scout, or something as complex as the one I got today, "Repair a sentry that is taking fire while a medic heals you."

Yeah, why they couldn't have figured out how to do something like that with Stranger is... well, ODD. I can think of several scenarios right off the bat that could count as achievements. It's kind of annoying to just win achievements for getting through a part of the main plot.

How about something like, "swim X amount of meters," "plant a fuzzle trap but kill the enemy with different ammo instead," "drown X amount of Chippunks" or "spend 60% or more of a level using melee attacks" and so on? See, that's fun, stuff you weren't even working towards.

I KNOW there's more than one Gloktogi, or that I'm going to bag one of the bounties.

Never Sleeper 12-21-2010 12:17 AM

Well I have solved the problem with the Visual C++ Library failure message 'cause I was following the link of DarkHoodness and download the actual Microsoft Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package but now if I talk to the first Mudokon and want him to open the first gate, the game crushes again without specific details about it. =(

Dipstikk 12-21-2010 12:37 AM

In fact, what a shame about the whole goddamn release. What were they thinking? I just visited the Steam forums for this game and practically nobody is happy about the state that this game is in.

...Welcome back, Lorne and Sherry.

Shouldn't we only get assertions if we are playing the "debug" build, rather the "release" one?
