We know that everything will be okay. He may loose an assistant or three, but the Daleks/Cybermen/Autons/Hoix/Silurians/Judoon/Atraxi/Roboforms/Sontarens will fall.

OddjobAbe 06-19-2010 10:51 AM

How about Sea Devils? I used to love them.

Disgruntled Intern 06-19-2010 10:56 AM

What the fuck is a Dalek, anyway? The only Dalek I know about is an artist I like. I have never seen Doctor Who.

OddjobAbe 06-19-2010 11:04 AM

Your new ones are not a patch on my old ones.

Wings of Fire 06-19-2010 11:06 AM

Oh please, it took a new series episode to actually make them credible threats again.

'YOU WOULD BEAT FIFTY MILLION CYBERMEN WITH FOUR DALEKS?'
'WE WOULD BEAT THE CYBERMEN RACE WITH ONE DALEK'

Disgruntled Intern 06-19-2010 11:10 AM

Is that really how horrible the show is all of the time? And here I was thinking that I might actually be missing out on something.

But the new ones didn't have those black (sometimes blue) hemispheres. They looked like copper ornaments. At least mine eventually became pewter ornaments.

Jesus Christ, no. It's the sort of thing that you only enjoy if you remember it from being a little 'un.

Disgruntled Intern 06-19-2010 11:15 AM

Oh, okay. So it's like Tales From the Crypt or Dark Shadows.

Wings of Fire 06-19-2010 11:20 AM

It's pretty bad yeah, but totally harmless.

MeechMunchie 06-19-2010 11:25 AM

It pulls a nice concept out of the hat occasionally.

Dark Shadows is great no matter what i don't care you can all die.

Disgruntled Intern 06-19-2010 11:42 AM

Without the nostalgia factored in? Come on, be realistic. I'm not saying I don't love it. I'm with you. But come on.

OANST 06-19-2010 11:48 AM

Yeah. I was kidding. Nostalgia is very important for the enjoyment of that show.

Disgruntled Intern 06-19-2010 11:52 AM

No you weren't. You don't kid around.

Wings of Fire 06-19-2010 04:37 PM

I just finally got round to watching Ponyo.

Miyazaki does it again. I love the man so much. He's pretty much my favourite director, animation or otherwise.

Daxter King 06-24-2010 12:52 PM

Toy Story 3, best movie I've seen all year. Everything was great, and I cant think of a better way to end it than how Pixar did. I cried at the end, something I rarely do in movies. Also made me realize how attached I felt to the characters.

shaman 06-24-2010 01:53 PM

I saw my first ever episode of "mongrels" last night, and i have to say it looks like it's going to be a brilliant series.

MA 06-24-2010 02:27 PM

i watched Convoy.

hmm.

Sekto Springs 06-24-2010 07:21 PM

The Wolfman. It was okay.
I found it funny how involved his transformation process was only to end up looking like a guy in a cheap costume. All the complex, CG rendering seemed for nought when you saw the final result.

Other than that, my only major complaints are the uneven pacing and the forgettable performances given by the cast, despite consisting largely of big name actors. Hugo Weaving was pretty much just Elrond with muttonchops. It gets points however for being bloodier than I expected, and for pulling something together after a serious clusterfuck of a post-production.

Dad recommended The Fourth Kind. I've heard mixed reviews, and his taste in films is pretty hit and miss. I'll give it a try and get back to you.

Hazel-Rah 06-25-2010 03:50 PM

Farthing Wood, good series, but the ending pissed me off. Another unfit leader...psh it's all about who you know.

Wings of Fire 06-25-2010 04:06 PM

The third season was so weak compared to the second.

Sekto Springs 06-25-2010 09:58 PM

I first read it as "Farting Wood".

My eldest nephew used to fucking love this programme. I can remember one Christmas, I got him the VHS tape, and he didn't stop watching it all day. I never got chance to watch my copy of Spinal Tap that day, which I was slightly narked about.

MeechMunchie 06-26-2010 10:29 AM

Doctor Who finale was almost epic. A good watch.

The fact that Miyazaki will probably be six feet under long before Pixar actually decides to work with him is a goddamn tragedy.

Sekto Springs 06-27-2010 02:34 PM

Why won't Pixar work with him? Disney is his biggest affiliate over here.

Nate 06-27-2010 05:19 PM

...

Pixar = Disney, in case you've forgotten.

The better question is why would he come to Pixar when he has his own studio and seems to be quite happy making films his own way.

That's what Sekto was pointing out.

Nate 06-27-2010 07:34 PM

Oh. I see now.

My second point still stands though.

Sekto Springs 06-27-2010 10:45 PM

I have to say that, in my opinon, a CGI Miyazaki film would lack the magic of his traditionally animated films.

Pretty much this, most of the wonder of his films resides inside the hand-drawn stuff. It's very fluid and pretty.

T-nex 06-28-2010 02:04 AM

I also think that it's a shame that hand-drawn cartoons are becoming so rare too.

Sekto Springs 06-28-2010 10:35 AM

Exactly. Miyazaki is quite possibly the last, true, big-budgeted cartoonist out there that hasn't just resorted to CG. Pixar is great and everything, but Miyazaki putting down the pencil and picking up the mouse would pretty much validate the finality that hand-drawn animation is dead.

OANST 06-28-2010 11:38 AM

Some of you may wet your pants at this:

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/ja...no-kuni/701065

It's an upcoming game made by the guys who made Dr. Layton, but it is entirely animated by Studio Ghibli. Looks pretty cool.

Wings of Fire 06-28-2010 12:17 PM

Nate showed me.

I jizzed. I love Level 5.

Daxter King 06-28-2010 12:43 PM

Surrogates, was alright.

Disgruntled Intern 06-28-2010 03:21 PM

I liked it more than you.

Shutter Island. It was boring and predictable and just reminded me of how fucking ugly Leonardo DiCaprio actually is.
