I guess I don't consider it real music. It's made to be in the background of something and is not music on it's own. That's what I think at least. And not all rap is bad. The oldschool rap is sometimes cool, but anything now on mtv is shit.

Leto 03-04-2007 09:37 PM

It was a general statement Oddjobmaid.

:

Well, it's better than all this R&B-hip-hop-rap crap.
She weaves it into her obvious, obvious obsession.

And Atmosphere is good rap you closeminded people.

Vocalists have a warped sense of music... The two vocalists from my band, the female considers songs without distortion and drumkits a novelty, and the male thinks a song isn't a song without a singer. Jeebus. They're good chaps, but dayum.

Oh my lord, Christina Aguleria, we ****ing get it, you like the '50s. Christ.

I think she's more into the whole 1920's style than the 50's. I haven't seen her in poodle skirts yet. Of course, I could really give a shit less.

I know what you mean, about it not being real music. It's just that guitars and singers just don't 'do it' for me. I know it doesn't just contain guitars, I was just giving an example. I man, the other day was great. I was playing the TV themes CD I burnt full blast while pissed out of my skull. It was a special occasion, that's why I was drunk. It was the day that I got 'My Amazing Human Body' working on my XP. I know, it's for ages 6-10, but you know me, I'm a sad old git. Luckily, the neighbours weren't in, so I didn't disturb them with my theme music.

As for rap, I hate all of it. I know all of it isn't bad, but I just see all of it as a pile of shite. But as I always say, each to their own. And as I've always said after watching Only Fools and Horses - this time next year, I'll be a millionaire.

How does disliking a certain genre of music make you closeminded? It's not as if I've never listened to that genre before having an opinion about it.

:

**** you.

That was meant to be a joke. Personally, I despise rap, but I could care less if other people like it.

Statikk HDM 03-05-2007 02:41 PM

Shout out to Jedi Mind Tricks, good rap band.
The whole Army of Pharoahs crew is pretty damn good, come to think of it.

OANST 03-05-2007 06:39 PM

Black Eyed Peas used to be this amazing underground rap group until Stacy Mickey Mouse Club Ferguson ruined them. Forever. The Pharcyde is pretty great as is Jurassic 5.

Cullen Heath 03-05-2007 06:54 PM

I love Jurassic 5. Heiroglyphics. They are good, too. That's the only rap I will listen to.

Considering it you deny all of rap being any good is what makes you close minded my good sir.

I have to admit... I've found an NZ band I like. Omfg scary. Probably just because I saw them live in a parking lot. The Mint Chicks, gonna have a USA tour sometime soon.

EDIT: oh, and Trinity Roots.

Wrong. It merely means that it's not my kind of music. I've listened to various rap artists back when I found it tolerable, and none of them appealed to me. It's not closed-mindedness. It only means that the genre doesn't fit my tastes.

Leto 03-05-2007 10:56 PM

One day you'll, possibley in your mid thirties. Hebephrenia in it's purest form rite thurr.

Quite a hilarious Muse pisstake. It's like your first jam all over again.

Condemnation of the entire genre based on what you've heard makes you close-minded.

Fair enough, but the phrase is couldn't care less. Sorry, it angers me when people get that wrong.

Woot for JMT! Give it up for murder rap. Although Atmosphere's my fave. Some other goodies:

Illogic (Mindblowing)
Immortal Technique (Political)
Edan (Kinda quirky. Jewish rappers FTW!)
Beastie Boys (OLD SCHOOL)
Cage (Just ****in' good)

the Exoddus 03-06-2007 07:23 AM

what about MUSE lol im likeing muse , dj tomcraft and moby o ya! and dont forget daft punk and rob zombie!

Condemnation of the entire genre based on what you've heard makes you close-minded.

Not at all. Whether I like it or not, I am constantly subjected to listening to rap music eminating from random people's headphones at my school. And I resent it.

And be realistic. I can't go through every single rap group, judging whether I like them or not, in order to be justified in condemning the entire genre. I don't like it. It's as simple as that. Disliking the genre does not make me close-minded. Just like you disliking a different genre of music isn't close-mindedness. It's your preference.

:

()
Fair enough, but the phrase is couldn't care less. Sorry, it angers me when people get that wrong.

Wrong. It can be used two ways.

I could say that I couldn't care less. Meaning that, my caring about the topic at hand is at the very bottom, and cannot go any lower.

I could also say that I could care less. Meaning that there is possibly a level of caring lower than the one I'm at.

Regardless of what you think, condemning any genre of music seems worthless and closed-minded to me. Every genre has some good stuff, without a doubt. If you said "I haven't heard any rap I like," that wouldn't be a problem. Actually, in all honesty, I don't care whether or not you like rap music. This is pretty much just an argument of semantics.

Now you're just being competitive. Saying you could care less makes no sense in the context you were using it in.

And for the record, I'd like to withdraw my praise of Edan from my previous post. I just liked his one song Primitive Plus a lot. The rest = meh.

I disagree. It's true that every genre of music is considered "good" to someone, but not every genre has something to offer for everyone.

I wasn't being competative. You were getting technical, so I corrected you. Saying that I could care less about other people's preferences is indeed used in the proper context.

OANST 03-06-2007 05:08 PM

All conversation of music is moot and useless if you don't use every opportunity to proclaim Modest Mouse as the greatest band of the last decade. So please all commence with this so the conversation will have meaning.

Leto 03-06-2007 09:39 PM

They rank, but everything I say I'm afraid will furthermore be useless.

I honestly wasn't. It just bugs me when someone tells me that I'm using something in the wrong context, since I always make sure I'm using a phrase or word properly before I type it up. So I felt the need to clear that up.

Mojo 03-07-2007 01:27 AM

I know Dragonforce has been discussed in this thread, but no opinions yet. So, what do you all think of DF? I just downloaded three albums, and I've been listening to it ever since. I love it!

Kimon 03-07-2007 06:06 AM

I know next to nothing of Dragonforce, except that a kid I hate really likes them. Meh.

Not. Sensical.

MODEST MOUSE WOOOOO

Fez 03-07-2007 09:10 AM

i think rap is okay if the artist puts his own efforts into the music.

I'm a great lover of Trip-Hop too, been listening to alot of DJ Shadow and UNKLE of recent.

Yes, it has. And I now love it. There are still a couple of songs that I'm not completely in love with but the rest of them make up for it. It's kind of like Good News having the song Dance Hall. Not a horrible song but definitely not one that I crave listening to.

Ugh. No, that's not what it means.

What it means is:

I hate rap, but I could care even less about people liking it than I do now.

Have I cleared that up yet, or are you going to continue arguing that the way you thought I worded it was wrong?

You've done nothing to clear anything up, you've just restated yourself! Ahh!

Christ, we've been griping about this awhile. In attempt to not kill this thread with boredom, send me a PM with your rebuttal.

Regina Spektor and Feist FTW!

OANST 03-07-2007 06:13 PM

Spektor is great. She's like if Tori Amos was talented.

Leto 03-07-2007 07:51 PM

I have to say, I'm not a fan of Dragonforce. Or Vagina Spector. Or DJ Shadow. But I like what I've heard of UNKLE.

Got a copy of the new Mars Volta, and it's... decent. Omar Rodriguez Lopex is really flapping his Manual of Dexterity wings. But that acoustic one with Spanish over it is decent.

And I've ordered Sickoakes. It's like Deus Ex II theme x Explosions in the Sky + Arabia in Sweden.

OANST 03-07-2007 08:27 PM

Vagina Spektor, eh? I'm not sure how to respond to that.

I'm a fan of old school rap where they didn't shout about their hos and shooting their mothers faces off with their 'glok, nigga!'

Arxryl 03-09-2007 07:02 PM

Yes... the old school rap was something great. I'm not too big a fan of what most rap I've heard nowadays sounds like.

And is that link to Quantum Leap 2? Because I can't download it right now due to my computer being a peice of shat, and the file name contains _QL2_ in it. ;)

Leto 03-09-2007 11:21 PM

I only really gave Regina Spektor a little listen when her homepage was posted here a while ago, and I didn't really like her then. When I saw the video to 'Fidelity', my opinion of her changed. Now I think she's terrible. I mean, "hea-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-art"? Good lord.

Yes, that's Quantum Leap. The file name has a 2 in it, because it was the second Quantum Leap music file I recorded. It's actually the original theme.

and the male thinks a song isn't a song without a singer.

They aren't. They're instrumentals.

:

song [sawng, song] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun 1. a short metrical composition intended or adapted for singing, esp. one in rhymed stanzas; a lyric; a ballad.
2. a musical piece adapted for singing or simulating a piece to be sung: Mendelssohn's “Songs without Words.”
3. poetical composition; poetry.
4. the art or act of singing; vocal music.
5. something that is sung.
6. an elaborate vocal signal produced by an animal, as the distinctive sounds produced by certain birds, frogs, etc., in a courtship or territorial display.
You probably mean he doesn't think it's music. If so, sorry for being an arse.

DragonForce is fun, but I could never listen to them as a fulltime band, their stuff is just too similar. I'm glad they tried a little harder with their new album though.

I finally got Origins of Symmetry by the way, and it's good, but I don't think it quite deserves the worship it gets from Muse fans. I still prefer BH&R, and then Absolution. I wish I could find Showbiz.

Leto 03-13-2007 10:32 PM

Regarding songs.

Showbiz in my opinion is just a collectors item, there are very few noteworthy tracks. Muscle Museum, the title track, Unintended and Escape being the only I remember. Fillip is the only song Muse have that actually annoys me.

This is almost musical: has anyone heard of Judson Fountain? Flawless radio stories.

skillya_glowi 03-17-2007 03:54 PM

Oh, and I believe that the new Modest Mouse album, "We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank" was released today in Australia, and will be in America on Mar. 20. Has anyone by any chance got it yet?

OANST 03-18-2007 08:07 PM

As I said, I've had the leak for a couple weeks now and have been enjoying it more and more every day.
