So my theory is good? Cool. I just wish I had higher status, I know loads about Oddworld...
The answer to your Mudos question is that Mudos is the main continent on Oddworld.

TheKhanzumer 07-19-2003 10:12 PM

Have you seen the map of oddworld Direvus? If not someone can post it for you. Mudos is not necessarily the "main" continent, but it is the one that the current oddworld games have all taken place on.

You guys have some interesting ideas. I never really thought about there being a lot of other jobs for the khanzumerz to do, but I think you guys are probably right.

Oh and drakan. Nobody here really cares about "status". I know how you feel, I used to worry about "proving" myself, but I soon learned that that is stupid. If you are a good member then people will like you, if you are annoying people (like Jacob) will slaughter you alive. Please don't post a bunch to get a higher status.

I felt the same way! Thank you for showing me the light Khanzumer!

In the company section of Oddworld.com it says that Mudos is the main continent on Oddworld. This does seem silly, though, since Mudos is officially about the size of some smallish Earth island which I can't remember the name of.

As for my map (I assume Buddy was found and rehabilitated in order to make it):
http://www.oddworld.com/alf/alfictio...assets/map.jpg

I spent like half an hour searching for it on the Forums before I realised I could get it from my FOM page. It must be Sunday...

MrBoj 07-20-2003 01:46 PM

I remember way back it was said that Oddworld is about 10 times the size of earth. Yet now Max says that Mudos is "officially" the size of a small ialsnd on earth. You cant really accurately judge size from the map since there is no scale. (that map, I am in love with by the way...) Mudos looks bigger than it may appear to be at first glance. Notice how the close up view shows the river to the north, but you can't really tell where the river is on any of the larger maps.

Wil 07-20-2003 02:19 PM

Yes, the sizes of Mudos and Oddworld were in debate for a while after the original map was made. It took two revisions to get it more accurate, but Mudos still looks way, way too big, according to the global map.

But it's beautiful nonetheless, plus it was created just for the fans, so you can't really complain.

GrigtheSlig 07-21-2003 04:13 AM

What color is a Meech? And is there any chance that they'll come back somehow because the've been living in this secret Meech cave or something?

TheKhanzumer 07-21-2003 12:28 PM

Attempted Answer

Until we see a live meech in an oddworld game, we can't really be sure of their color. The meech munchie logo shows that they are a reddish orange, but that is misleading. The scrab cake scrab is green and the paramite pie is orange, so unless there are green scrabs and orange paramites we have yet to see, the colors of the creatures were changed by the Magog Cartel marketers. It is reasonable to assume that they also changed the color of the meech. But maybe they didn't for some reason.

In case you are wondering why they changed the color... have you ever heard of the Pink Panther? Just like on earth, brighter colors are more entertaining in oddworld than the dull browns and grays and greens and oranges that are common.

To answer your second question, most members here would say that they are almost 100% sure we will see a meech in a future game. Whether it be a game that takes place in the past, before they were extinct or a game that shows us the last stragglers in some cave or something (meeches useully don't live in caves, seeing as how they hunt elums).

It is rumored that a herd of meeches were put on a special island by glukkons. It is sort of a hunting range where they are killing off the rest of the meeches for entertainment.

Direvus 07-21-2003 02:16 PM

the map

That map is really gorgeous. I never realised that Oddworld was so large, but it makes sense ... the bigger the world, the greater the scope for development.

I look forward to many years of oddness to come =)

Nicely put khanzumer! I do think that meeches will be in a future game as well. Why would they introduce us to them...have us fall in love, and say, "eh, I dunno if we're gonna put them in a game!" I do think that OWI just wanted to show us how destructive Glukkons are, and that they don't care about the environment...only profits! I think OWI is setting it up so they can make a pre-quintology taking place befor the present one. OWI has pleny of good material to make games forever!

Why would Glukkons do that? They could just make more Meech Munchies rather than hunt them. Kinda dumb if you ask me.

Wil 07-22-2003 08:06 AM

Perhaps after they've hunted them down, they do turn 'em into Meech Munchies.

well, it should! If Oddworld is indeed ten times the size of earth, then it would look too big for the map, since we are used to earth-sized maps. The map isn't crude in the least bit, and it's a wonder!

oddguy 07-22-2003 07:08 PM

It just goes to show you how dumb and careless Glukkons are. Of course we're going to think that killing off meeches is dumb, but remember that gluks only think of themselves and what they want.

TheKhanzumer 07-22-2003 07:16 PM

Hurry Max! Edit the word "meep" to "meech" before anyone thinks you don't know what you are talking about!

Direvus 07-23-2003 02:39 AM

I totally agree with oddguy's comment.

The whole point of Glukkon culture is that they are only interested in short-term gratification and consistently fail to consider the long-term consequences of their actions.

For example, if Gabbits are good candidates for Glukkon lung transplants, then is positively moronic to hunt them into extinction. But that's Gluks for you. Consider Mullock's "clever" plan to make food out of Mudokons ... if he had started killing Muds for their meat, he'd (eventually) have no slave labour force left!

I think OWI are using the Glukkons to parody that aspect of human nature. Our species has done a lot of things just as stupid and thoughtless as hunting the Meech into extinction.

I love it when people agree with me! :D
I also think it was quite foolish of Humphrey to use the last known living Gabbit for his sonar beacon experiment. How reckless! Oddworld has robots; why not make a robot with skulljack? But then again, if Humphrey didn't give Munch headport, we wouldn't get the great chance of zapping people! Sometimes the story doesn't make complete sense, because #1: It's a different world and #2: It's all for the sake of entertainment and great gameplay!

LOL!! Dutifully done! Cheers, indeed. I'm still laughing five minutes later. Oh dear, I'm a bit too excitable today.

Sorry, but I don't understand what you mean. Except for the 'it's a wonder' bit, I agree there totally.

Sekto Springs 07-23-2003 08:26 PM

oddworld will always be a wonder.

MrBoj 07-23-2003 09:10 PM

ok, you said this, Max

:

and I say that Mudos should look way, way too big. The reason is that we are used to maps that are of earth dimensions. Since we aren't used to oddworld dimensions, the size of a continent (Mudos) could appear larger than it is. I actually think Mudos looks a bit too small for a continent, but with the few angles that are zoomed in, it really gets big. Take it as it is, the map is still great.

TheKhanzumer 07-23-2003 09:43 PM

Hope this clears things up.

Max's point was that Mudos was described as being a certain size compared to an earth landmass. At the same time Oddworld was said to be roughly ten times the size of the earth. But both can't be true using this map. If Mudos was the size it was originally said to be, Oddworld should be much bigger to be ten times the size of earth. If this map shows a ten-times-the-size-of-earth oddworld, then mudos has about as much surface as half of the planet earth (that was a very rough estimate), obviously making it way bigger than it would have to be if it is indeed the same size as some smallish island on earth.

My opinion is that they size of Mudos has just simply been increased. Walah! No more problem.

Wil 07-24-2003 08:19 AM

Well said, Khanz. Gotta love OWI's concept of continuity. :fuzwink:

paramud 07-24-2003 09:28 PM

In Abe's Oddysee, Zulag 2, the door over the door to Zulag 3, in screen 2 there is some graffiti under the mudokon. what does it say?

Well lets not forget the the Vykkers have possesion of Sam the Mudokon queen. In which case they can just force her to continuously(sp?) produce more slaves untill she just can't.

And as for the graffite, I think that it says "Molluck sucks" but Im very sure that Im wrong...I can't remember at the moment. Mabye Max or Khanz know.

well I'm talking about the graffiti under the mudokon who is traped behind the laser...

Sekto Springs 07-24-2003 10:07 PM

im pretty sure it's mispelled actually
and there is lots of grafitti, like on the labor egg sign there's graffitti that says "my mom" and "sam sux"

paramud 07-25-2003 03:03 AM

In Abe's Oddysee, Rupture Farms 2, Zulag3 how do you kill the slig in screen -1
here is a diagram to show you where screen -1 is

I didn't know about that. I still (sadly) haven't played AE, so there are some bits and pieces I've missed out on. I've never heard of Sam except for in these forums.

And yes, you spelled continuously correctly. However, in "possession" both 's's are doubled.

Cheers

Wil 07-25-2003 07:17 AM

I know exactly where you mean, Paramud, I played through that level just yesterday. It says Slig, but I can't read what comes after that. I'm going to go there now so I can have another look and get a screen code so others can look at it.

(EDIT: I think that's either a crude drawing of a Slog, or of a Slog skeleton after the word Slig, but there's something else after that I can't make out. The screen code is R2PO2CO2)

Sligslinger, I'd never noticed that graffiti, and I looked very closely at the Labour Egg sign at the end of the Loading Bay level just the other day. Is it just in the bad ending?

Direvus, there's not much mention of Sam in the games. Getting perfect Quarma in AE, the Weirdos will tell you 'you'll find out about her when you meet Munch', and in MO there's just the Labour Eggs signs. Everything else we know has been pieced together from Dear Alf, the Oddfellows presentation and various interviews and previews.
