Honestly I wouldn't mind if they started from scratch because the goofiness of the assets in NnT was kind of a buzzkill for me. I was expecting it to be dark like the first AO. But your right we have waited long enough xD.
|
OWI might own the assets. It depends on the publisher agreement.
Shrykull43: Were the assets that goofy in themselves? Or was it just the animation? |
On second thought Nate your right, the assets were fine it was entirely the animations and sounds, oh god the sounds........

|
...what's wrong with the sounds?
|
The sound design is so shoddy, how do you not see that? The Mudokons' voice acting sucks sometimes, the scrab and paramite sounds suck dick and to top it all off, I can't remember because I haven't played it properly in fucking ages.
|
Oh, yeah. The creature sounds. Those were pretty bad. I don't know why they used different sounds in NnT, especially since the originals were taken from soundbanks. Cause I heard them used a lot outside of the games.
|
I mean, I could have designed better sounds for the creatures. They really put no effort into it.

I would definitely be up for that. If they paid well (y)
|
The creature sounds just reminded me of MO's creature sounds. AKA garbage. Although paramites didn't actually sound like pigs at least in NnT, I don't think. Unless I just blocked it out.

Well, Lorne answered the question as to what happened and guess what? Long distance relationships don't work. Who would have thought?

Looks like Lorne learned a thing or two during the process:

I think referencing Star Wars just adds to the "Lorne Lanning is George Lucas of gaming" theory.

Yeah, considering he cited translation issues and the Euro, I'd say he's worked with more than just JAW. Could be whoever did the Munch/Stranger ports.

Good to see people trying to shed some light on the subject, and yeah Slog Bait it is a relief. I'm tried of delays and setbacks with OWI as I imagine we all are.
|
Yeah, assuming AEHD is a success, I think OWI might finally be out of their production rut and we'll finally be getting entirely new Oddworld games again.
Still holding out for more off shoot stories like SW from time to time and at least one movie, be it set in Oddworld or not. |
-quietly waving SW2 flag in the corner-
I want to believe. Back on-topic, I'm with Slog Bait and EVP on this. Very much excited to see what happens when OWI gets a toehold in the industry again and has the resources to make new stuff. I've always loved games with lots of lore/world-building and Oddworld obviously has a lot left to explore there. |
:
If they can have at least one Oddworld project in the works while working on other IP's I've got no problem with it. I'm bias with this view because of all the effort in to stuff like Citizen Siege that didn't pay off and kept us waiting for nothing. |
Well, off shoot stories can help expand upon the quintology's universe with ease if the off shoot takes place concurrent to the quintology. It could even expand the lore if it takes place before the quintology. SW showed that what's going on in the quintology is affecting more places than just Eastern Mudos in a pretty drastic way. I doubt Lorne will ever work on an Oddworld project that doesn't tie into the base story or games in some way or another. He's already made it abundantly clear how in love he is with his idea and how intent he is on telling the story he wants to tell.
|
I wish he'd just fucking hurry up and tell it then.
|
I'm still cool for the idea of comics or graphic novels to fill in the time. But, as long as I know OWI isnt dead, I'm pretty happy. I hope they're eating well.

Sounds like Lorne is working a lot on Oddworld. I wonder how many unannounced Oddworld projects are currently brewing. |
"I've been solely focused on Oddworld" could mean anything.
