So we’re up for Game of the Year for Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty via the TIGA awards. HELP us by voting for us!!

http://awards.tiga.org/awards_vote.php

Please share!!! Thank you

Havoc 10-14-2014 01:54 PM

At first you think 'hey, quite an honor to be nominated for that'. Then you see the length of the list and some of the names on there and it's suddenly not such an honor anymore. Fucking Minecraft? Watch_Dogs? Singstar?! Are they kidding?

Nepsotic 10-14-2014 04:54 PM

I think it's basically most games released this year. I mean, we all know that Singstar isn't going to win. Saying that, we all know that New 'n' Tasty isn't going to win, either, unfortunately. Nothing to do with quality, it's just very unlikely that more people will vote for it rather than Angry Birds, for example.

leocrow 10-18-2014 10:48 AM

I saw it on fb too. Sure, i understand why they are delaying the pc version (it will probably come out last because of piracy) but i cannot really vote for a game i haven't played, despite my love for the Oddworld universe and my intention to buy it (or preorder it) as soon as it becomes available

Nobody is delaying anything. The wait is because it takes time to make.

You think JAW are that dim?

Yes. Yes they are.

Don't worry guys, Havoc would do it better, even though he doesn't understand enterprise software development, he'd do it better. GOOOOOOO HAAAAAVOOOOOOOCCCCC

I think it just wasn't going to come out first because of piracy, no? I mean isn't it a lot harder to pirate a digital download on console than on PC? You can't seem to pirate New n Tasty or Munch HD anywhere (although I think you can find Stranger HD PS3 out there). I'm really not knowledgeable about this subject so could anyone explain why not releasing on PC first, to avoid some piracy, is a stupid concept?

I know there's the argument that pirates wouldn't have bought the legitimate console version anyway but that doesn't seem like something that can be accurately measured.

EDIT: It's funny reading Havoc's link. Everyone was complaining about that one month delay. It sounds like some sweet fantasy, now.

Varrok 10-19-2014 01:54 AM

Especially that NnT was released almost two months ago. We should be used to delays from JAW/OWI already

pakirriVendetta 10-19-2014 03:26 AM

At least could tell if the game comes out later this year (on Christmas for example)...Or if the game will be released in 2015...And I think PC users are not going to play until 2015...And would not surprise me...

It would be very disappointing if they missed out on Xmas 2014, that's a whole lot of money they could have in their pocket. Having said that if a game gets delayed it's not a major thing, they're obviously doing pretty well from the PS4 sales alone so far.

Crashpunk 10-19-2014 04:45 AM

Hitting that Xmas date would obviously be beneficial. But look. They aren't going to announce a release date if they don't know themselves when it's going to near ready or completed.

They are working on it. Personally, I'm glad JAW haven't released any dates. It may hurt the product's development/porting if there is a set date, especially if it's Christmas. it's a common reason some ports/games are rushed. I don't doubt JAW's abilities of course, but it could happen. You never know what could happen during development.

All of ya, be patent.

Are you saying that you're not allowed to criticise anything unless you can actually do that thing? Because that's retarded. Imagine going to a restaurant where the food is shit and complaining to the chef about it. Now imagine that the chef's reply is "well you couldn't do any better so shut up!"
Do you see, now?

What part of "JAW don't know how long it's going to take" won't fit into your brain cell?

It's not so much a stupid concept as it is a giant middle finger to a large part of your fan base. Piracy can go two ways. They pirate it and then buy it when it turns out to be good. Or they pirate it with absolutely no intention of ever buying it to begin with. The latter would never become your customer at all if there was no way to pirate the game, but might become a paying customer in the future if you deliver a solid product.
The first wants to be convinced to become your customer because they're not sure the price is fair or if the game is their thing. This entire group could be completely eliminated by something as simple as a free demo.

Only a very small percentage of piracy actually results in 'a lost sale', if you can even measure something like that reliably. But game developers like to look at the total number of pirated copies and consider them ALL 'lost sales', which is incredibly inaccurate because that's simply not how it works.

I honestly believe that the percentage of people who 'pirate, likes and buys' is larger than the percentage of people who 'wanted to buy, had money to buy, but pirated instead because free'. Which, in the grand scheme of things, would make piracy a positive influence on sales instead of a negative.

*heavy breathing* Guys they are clearly trying to subtly tell us that the PC version is PLAYABLE.

http://puu.sh/c1KpL/5502e2bc14.jpg

Well, that's not that hard, exporting a PC version in Unity is as easy as pushing buttons, also considering the PS4 is basically a PC anyway. They are just holding it back because they need to stay exclusive a while longer.

Holy Sock 10-19-2014 07:03 AM

I don't feel like JAW gave me a giant middle finger. And, by this stage, we know it's less about piracy and more about the PC version taking a lot of time to get right. I'm glad though. A lot of fans can forgive JAW, I think, for the buggy release of the PS4 version considering they patched the game very promptly but if the next port requires 5 patches to refine then I think more customers will lose faith. And announcing a release date, like Crash said, will just lead to that.

Although, apparently it's not that hard to port the PC version! As easy as pushing buttons I hear. What gives, JAW?

You should probably read what Nep had to say about it. Things never are as easy as merely pushing buttons...

Patience, people.

pakirriVendetta 10-19-2014 09:35 AM

What surprises me is that the game did not come out for PS3 and Vita yet.

I think there is a temporary contract with Sony for exclusive PS4...and on other platforms we will play some time after the PS4 users.

As said in previous posts, Unity is very easy to program for different platforms...or not?

I dunno...it's all very strange.

Holy Sock 10-19-2014 09:46 AM

There was a temporary deal with Sony for all Sony platforms (1 month of exclusivity in return for a spot on their E3 2013 stage show). But that expired 2 months ago.

Nate 10-19-2014 10:54 AM

Why is Xmas an important time period for digital games? I mean, physical games, yes. But who gives a gift of a digital game for Christmas?

Crashpunk 10-19-2014 11:04 AM

I know a lot of people actually. We usually exchange gifts on Steam every year. It's a good time to buy games regardless.

Job McYossie 10-19-2014 01:22 PM

I do, my brother does. We buy games and free-to-play items for each other every gift holiday.

Nate 10-19-2014 03:04 PM

I stand corrected, then.
