We definitely will, because they know we'll throw a fit if we don't.

Scrabaniac 04-29-2014 04:10 PM

I like the 'You were warned' sign haha!

Xavier 04-30-2014 01:25 AM

Yeah it's a nice touch. :)

I was replaying the Free Fire Zone and I forgot it was littered with impaled Mudokon corpses. I wonder if we'll see that grim display in New 'n' Tasty...

I certainly hope so! There's nothing in the shots provided until now, but those places did not have corpses in the original version either if I remember correctly.

Manco 04-30-2014 10:50 AM

I think there actually is a corpse just above and behind the “you were warned” sign – you can just make out the head, chest and a shoulder.

Holy Sock 04-30-2014 11:06 AM

Looks quite like one actually.

SpAM_CAN 05-01-2014 04:45 PM

I am so happy you guys are actually using regional pricing and not just changing the symbol like many idiots have started doing on the PS Store.

STM 05-01-2014 05:26 PM

Same problem on Steam. I figured I might buy Dark Souls I till I realised it's $19.99 and £19.99, eurgh.

MeechMunchie 05-02-2014 05:06 AM

Speaking of which, there's a sizeable audience to be gained if you get the Oddworld games on GOG in addition to Steam. Now that Lorne's so enamoured with the indie scene, it seems like a sensible move.

AvengingGibbons 05-02-2014 05:18 AM

Are the corpses an organised deterrent to any mudokon who may want to escape, or are they just the result of an attempted escape?

They should have half dead mudokons begging for help as Abe passes them

Probably both. Or maybe the Sligs are simply having the bant.

We'll absolutely go on GOG if they'll take us, plus the usual other distributors.

New comparison screenshot.

Xavier 05-02-2014 10:19 AM

Is that some kind of magical/mystical door appearing?

Not sure I'm liking it :/

Nepsotic 05-02-2014 11:15 AM

Ungrateful bastard.

Also, that aura thing around Abe kind of looks like it was made with a Spirograph.

MeechMunchie 05-02-2014 11:44 AM

Wait

Wait

They changed the portals

It's not perfect, but I'll take it over fluffy plugholes any day.

Scrabaniac 05-02-2014 11:59 AM

I take it birds have been replaced with a metal constructed portal.. I guess it fits the industrial theme of RuptureFarms, but i'm not sure how it will fit in a native environment.. :S

Holy Sock 05-02-2014 12:18 PM

Perhaps it's only that way once the Portal is opened?

Ha yeah I thought that.

Perhaps the portals will change depending on your environment?

Scrabaniac 05-02-2014 02:12 PM

Yeah i can imagine a wooden one in Paramonia and a sandstone one in Scrabania

Edit: It kinda looks like it opens up from something like a floating ball/orb.. That would be kinda cool i guess..

Job McYossie 05-02-2014 02:20 PM

I love the new portal. I always disliked the portals because they didn't make sense in 3D space, and the ones in MO looked... bad, to say the least. This looks like something mystical, while much more plausible. I hope it's the style used in future true 3D Oddworld games.

V_O_T 05-02-2014 03:06 PM

This is much better than the fluffy fart sparkles of the placeholder. The fact that we talked about it and they changed it makes me incredibly happy we are being listened too. This is a significant improvement to say the least and now I'm going to buy 20 copies of gravity crash ultra. Thank you JAW!

As for its effect, I kind of feel that it opens with a burst and bits of the environment rip apart from the background and foreground and make the portal construct. That's my assumption from the screenshot.

I mean no. Grrrr hisss I like old portal better. :P

Also, is this going to be a regular thing? Like every Friday/Saturday they post a new screenshot tease? Edmund McMillan, the binding of Isaac creator, releases a tease every Monday. I think it's a good advertising idea. It makes me look forward to every Monday lol.

MeechMunchie 05-02-2014 04:14 PM

I think the primary complaint was that the blue puffs were a bit too cute and benign, wheras the original firey orbs were a lot more arcane and intruiging. In the context of the story, they represented rebellion and a primal need for freedom, which the latter portrayed better.

The main reasons for the original change was that 1) they were hard to see in a game that's 40% orange and 2) it wasn't clear to new players that sending hapless slaves through a sinister, buzzing ring of flames was desirable. While I'd still rather the original design was just extended into a full circle with six or so orbs rather than two, I appreciate that gameplay needs to take priority, and I'm glad that JAW managed to find a good compromise between the two extremes; neither suspiciously dangerous, nor incongruously pure.

So yeah. A sage nod and a thumbs up from me.

STM 05-02-2014 04:15 PM

OH GOD where are the yellow snake eye thingy majigs over the door?

0/1000000 would never play ever.

Seriously though looks pretty cool.

The whole "Rupture Farms: They say it's the biggest meat processing plant on Oddworld" makes it seem like we'll be seeing this more some of the other areas.

Manco 05-02-2014 05:01 PM

Seems like it’s riffing on the “environments” section of the AO manual.

Varrok 05-02-2014 11:52 PM

I don't really like the portal and that atom effect on abe

JennyGenesis 05-03-2014 01:24 AM

And to think that in the pre alpha version, the door wasn't even there

What are you talking about? It's native stonework. The birds summon it, they're flying around Abe there.

JennyGenesis 05-03-2014 01:53 AM

I thought those birds would be the health bar?

Holy Sock 05-03-2014 02:16 AM

The birds are still going to be there. At the bottom you can see the words "BIRD PORTALS" on the sign.

The birds above Abe are his health I think or simply for effect.
