It's impossible to recreate art identically in every way shape or form, so we should just accept that a few things may be different from the original. We can all trust JAW on this project as they have provided evidence of their skills by releasing some screenshots, which in my honest opinion look fantastic. On the other hand a bit of criticism isn't bad, as long as it is constructive rather than dissing. No one wants to be put down from something they have worked hard on.

It's a remake of a game by fans and other fans opinions do play a part, if even minor. The development team cares enough about the current fans to cater to them AS WELL as potential new fans.

Since none of us are actively working on the game itself, all we can do is say shit and hope that it gets heard, no matter how small and insignificant it may seem in the grand scheme of things. It's up to them and not us what they do and don't go with

If what you're telling me is that this is just a fan service product, and not an attempt to bring the series back in a legitimate way then I have no further interest in it whatsoever, and neither should any of you. The Oddworld that you want is the "balls to the system, we make what we believe in" Oddworld. If what you are saying is true, you aren't getting that, and it seems like it's partly all of your faults for that being the case. Shame on all of you.

Look, I actually think you’re wrong in this case, Slog Bait. OANST has it right – Oddworld has always been about “ balls to the system, we make what we believe in”, and just creating a game for the sake of being nice to the fans isn’t what they’ve ever been about.

The re-releases JAW have spearheaded were indeed more about generating some cash for the IP, as well as helping to stir up some interest from fans old and new. But New n Tasty is, I think, more about reviving the series in full – probably not a full reboot, but it’s certainly trying to remind everyone what makes Oddworld Oddworld.

Where I think OANST is wrong is where he believes that games created as art cannot also be created with fan interest in mind. New n Tasty isn’t a fan service product, but that doesn’t mean JAW must ignore all fan opinion as they build the game.

And regardless of anyone’s opinions on this, nobody has the right to shit all over other people, so can we please all be a little more civil to one another, for fuck’s sake?

I know it's not made for the sake of being nice to the fans, but for this specific project the fans opinions seem to matter. That's really all I wanted to point out. This is MOST LIKELY because it's not an entirely new game, but a remake of the very first one that ever came out in this series.

Fan opinion matters. To an extent. But Oddworld fans are awful, and horribly entitled whiny turds. They do not have the funds to make this thing live up to your every expectation.

No, he's as welcome to his right to comment as everyone else is to their right of reply. Considering he's a hormonal teen who bases most of his actions on how much of a rise he's going to get out of people, I'd just rather they chose not to exercise that right.

As for me, JAW explicitly asked for suggestions and feedback, and personally I felt most comfortable suggesting minor flaws that could feasibly be fixed on a short timescale. All two of them.

This whole argument started because we've been waiting for something new since 2005. The fans are restless. I think it's only natural to have really high expectations about a franchise you love and care about coming back, especially if it was once a dead franchise.

The fans aren't ruining the game at all. But I do agree that too much input is crazy. I know they don't have the funds to make everything they want, and I think that's what pisses me off the most about this whole thing. People are forgetting Just Add Water are a indie developer. So I partly understand OANST's feelings. However, JAW clearly want the fan's advice. yes, it's there decision, and yes not all advice will be heard. But your wrong to say your opinions are worthless because they really aren't. This isn't a Triple A title.

Again, Issues need to be address so they can be fixed. And also again, people were going too far. Background colours? the slight different colours on Abe? The minor details of the models? I don't want Nep or others to completely shut up like suggested but. Come the fuck on. I'm not on par with OANST by being disgusted by it. But it is unneeded.

What'd help here is if one of the JAW/OI team members chips in a little just to clarify whether they give a shit or not about what we think... We know they're members here. I suspect they're sat back, watching all this and loving it.

To 'try' change the pace, is there anyone on here that legitimately wont be able to buy a copy of the game on release? I'm thinking of holding a mini comp or give away of some sort. I've mentioned it before, I just need an idea to try make it fun or something.

Love how the out of bounds area is suggested by not allowing the camera to pan past the electricty gates, and instead tilts the camera to show what's ahead.

Maybe the birds flyng in a circle like they traditionally did doesn't quite work as well now that we have it in HD and can see the birds flying backwards, awkwardly, never changing orientation. Suggestions for slight alteration?
