This is a really stupid thing for which to look for an in‐universe explanation.

abe is now! 03-02-2008 05:33 AM

Ok, so new question: before Glukkons became important for Oddworld, rich, strong and before they wore their clothes, what were Glukkons doing? How were they living? What were they wearing?

:

The Glukkons were a spiritual race thousands of years ago. Their religion studied the occult and black arts, but they lived in peace with the Mudokons until the appearance of the Mudokon pawprint moon. Humiliated by the Mudokons' outrageous claims to divinity, the Glukkons began their Age of Alchemy, attempting to disprove the Mudokons. A disasterous accident that nearly wiped them out forced them to abandon their efforts. They become enclosurists, living their lives indoors, refusing to look at the sky and the moon it contained. They also rejected their mystical heritage and entered Oddworld’s industrial society. At first they provided consumers with quality products manufactured by Mudokon employees, but gradually over time the Cartel degenerated into its contemporary condition.

Is Abe's voice done through a computer or something? Everytime I watch a video of Lorne doing the voice it sounds nothing like Abe!

I was just wondering whether it was recorded then altered through the computer, or whether he's just forgotten how to do the voice :(

abe is now! 03-02-2008 06:02 AM

I can imitate Abe's voice perfectly... it is easy. I will show you it. When I have a microphone.

Fuzzle Guy 03-02-2008 06:10 AM

I'm not saying it's impossible to do the voice, I am just asking if Lorne can do it, or if it is done through a computer.

Xavier 03-02-2008 10:18 AM

Lorne can really speak like Abe, Munch or Stranger, there are some interview videos on TOC where he does a couple of sentences with their voices. ;)

OddYouko 03-02-2008 10:29 AM

OMG really?! What is TOC? Can someone post me the link to it please?

I think he does it in the one before the last one on this page:

On the first link what do I click on?

Ok thanks Max. =)

When Munch ecaped the Vykker's ship-thing shouldn't his leg still be broken? When he set the fuzzles free he was walking.

On the first link, click the titles listed under ‘Contents’.

Why do some of the creatures abe possesses blow up, and some are just..realesed?

ehm... maybe because Scrab and Paramite are holy for mudokons...

Fuzzle Guy 03-09-2008 12:38 AM

Probably because Abe can choose who he wants to kill as he leaves them. He kills evil people who will kill him. Animals, they are just taking their place in the food chain when they're killing Abe, and because they are holy, he won't blow them up.

abe is now! 03-09-2008 11:58 AM

I think it's because Scrabs and Paramites are native creatures, so they don't die when Abe unpossesses them. And because they wouldn't do anything to Abe if he doesn't go in their territory. But Sligs and Glukkons want to kill him. So, they die.

Possessor 03-09-2008 05:55 PM

Sometimes, though, he blows up slogs, and sometimes he releses them, like in the slog huts.

Mybe the Vykkers mended his leg or something when they implanted the sonar, so that he could find fuzzles and capture them, like humphrey said. or something like that.

Xavier 03-10-2008 04:08 AM

Munch leg wasn't realy broken in MO. That's why he could begin to walk directly after he was freed by the fuzzles.

Wil 03-10-2008 04:15 AM

Possessor is perfectly correct:
:

Q: In Munch's Oddysee, doesn't Munch break his leg in the trap? It said that somewhere on the website. Anyway, if his leg was broken, how come he hops around as soon as the fuzzles break him out of his bonds? Love your games and website. Gobi the talented camel.

Alf: The Vykker's mended his broken leg. Those snaggle toothed freaks got him in tip-top condition so he could lead them to more pharmaceutical fodder. Vykkers become very kind and generous when it comes to the bottom line!

But please don’t double post in the future, Possessor.

Zerox 03-10-2008 09:50 AM

I don't feel that this will have an especially reasonable explanation, but at the beginning of AO, how would Abe have known how to chant and possess things already? When could he have had a chance to practice or find out even without being shot on the spot, seldom suddenly be perfectly easily capable of it. Even if he is some gifted chosen one, how would he have known how to do it in his seclusion?

Wil 03-10-2008 03:32 PM

This point was touched upon briefly in the last Q&A incarnation.

In gameplay, Abe can possess Sligs in RuptureFarms, but he’s never taught this until that story stone in Monsaic Lines.

Similarly, Abe is never taught the importance and significance of freeing his people until his spiritual rebirth, but when you play the game you have the option of fastidiously seeking every secret area from the offset. Which would lead the player to discover how to use Abe Portals before first being instructed on how to use them in Monsaic Lines. Part of Abe’s Oddysee’s great replayability was that you could go back and apply the rules/playstyle that you only found out later on in your first play through.

I played the Italian and the English version of AE, but in the English version there is a cash in the 8th Annex of the Bonewerkz but I can't see it in the Italian version. What is it? I think it contains Slurgs... is it true? I attach a screenshot with the cash.

Xavier 03-15-2008 03:37 AM

well yeah, it kind of explains why there are slurgs there...

Wil 03-15-2008 03:42 AM

Yes, indeed. So that box isn’t there in the Italian version? Could we have a screenshot of that? :p

abe is now! 03-15-2008 03:43 AM

So they brought Slurgs to Bonewerkz.. but why? Do Slogs eat them? Or something else... :fuzconf:

Wil 03-15-2008 03:48 AM

The Magog Cartel might have need to ship Slurgs to RuptureFarms to make Slurg Sundaes, but I don’t know why there’d be a box of them in Bonewerkz. Perhaps the Magog Cartel has caught on to the idea that they are a cheap security system. Or perhaps it’s a last-minute attempt to explain why there are Slurgs there. That might explain why the crate isn’t there in the Italian version: it was added to the English version after a copy had been sent off for Italian localization.

Maybe Slurgs live in Bonewerkz because it's a grimy place... so they put them in cashes and they ship them to Rutprue Farms as you told. I remember I read in a led of FeeCo Depot "Cassata di Slurgs" maybe they make it with Slurgs from Bonewerkz!

Nate 03-15-2008 07:37 AM

Perhaps they're squished and the oil produce is used as lubrication for machinery and slig funtimes. I've never actually noticed that box before. That's really interesting.

Zerox 03-15-2008 08:54 AM

That certainly isn't in the Playstation english version either. And the Slurgs are the wrong colour. How, well, odd (no pun intended).

Xavier 03-15-2008 10:01 AM

Just looked in my official french guide of AE, the screencode is bwp04c07, and there is no box in my book either...

So this could be something OWI put in fast before releasing the game.

Maybe the Slurgs are there so too many Mudokons don't have to be killed while trying to "Scoop da Poop" from Slogs.

But if the Mudokons are "scooping da poop" and they stand on a Slurg, they won't live to scoop much more poop.
