I've been starting to like bands like Hoobastank, Porcupine Tree, Lifehouse and Cold, lately.

Especially Porcupine Tree has some good songs.

Porcupine Tree are awesome.
I went against my poor-student policy and bought In Absentia the other day.

Mojo 02-05-2007 07:45 AM

I DOWNLOADED Deadwing the other day. Arriving Somewhere But Not Here is awesome.

Facsimile 02-05-2007 04:43 PM

Yeah, that's my favourite song of theirs.
When it breaks into the heavy, Opethy section my jeans are creamed.

ziggy 02-05-2007 11:19 PM

A friend showed me this one band, Explosions in The Sky, that I'm getting into. They are good I must say. My favorite song of theirs is: Welcome Ghosts

Leto 02-05-2007 11:28 PM

Went to Porcupine Tree's myspace recently. Thought their music was decent, but you know, this on there space was kinda... yeah.

For Fans ofRadiohead, Pink Floyd, Tool, Opeth, Muse, Sigur Ros, Nine Inch Nails, ABBA, King Crimson, Marillion, The Beatles, Katatonia, Rush, Anathema, Dream Theater, Oceansize, The Mars Volta

Only thing that made me remember them really. :D Opeth are good in my book though.

Is it just me, or is Schism the only ****ing thing that Bass players play for soundchecks? Merely an observation.

Mojo 02-06-2007 09:00 AM

Arriving Somewhere But Not Here is somewhat similar to Incubus' The Odyssey, innit?

It is played a lot by bass players, to show off their '1337 skillz' but when they just play that same riff over and over, it shows nothing.

No, they're nothing alike.

Taytay 02-06-2007 03:37 PM

I am afraid I am not familiar with some of these bands you all have stated. Anybody dig Mischief Brew? My Brother made their shirts for them at some point in time.

I've been listening to Senses Fail alot more recently.

Or Hysteria by Muse.

I never understood that, when I played bass i'd just play my own songs during soundcheck since that was the point of it. Some people are just showoffs.

Leto 02-07-2007 01:27 PM

Neither of them require immense skill to play either.

Isis anyone? They're playing here, but not quite my cup of cake. Like, the music is fine, then the vocalist vomits his noise over seemingly good tunes.

Kimon 02-10-2007 07:55 AM

I've never heard of Isis. John-ruh?

On a side note, does anyone know who raps on Placebo's Spite & Malice?

Satch 02-10-2007 01:36 PM

ive been listening to Mnemics new Passenger album for the past two days. its easilly one of the most brutal albums ive heard in a long time. i sure hope theres some Mnemic fans around here =3

Justin Warfield is the rapist on that tracks. Haven't heard of him otherwise at all.

Isis. Some instrumentals are ok.

On a completely different note, I finally took the plunge and bought Orphans by Tom Waits. Must say, disc 1 has mabye... 3 good tracks. The last two discs are the moneydew.

Do we have any Floyd fans here? I saw Roger Waters a few weeks back, it was amazing.

Leto 02-11-2007 09:05 PM

My friend went to that Roger Waters thing. Apparently it was a good long set. Wouldve gone if I had transport etc.

Rap-ist.

Statikk HDM 02-12-2007 09:33 AM

Hello, they're called rappers.
Hey, Slayer won a Grammy last night. Pretty kickass. Motorhead won a Grammy last year. Holy shit, maybe they'll start picking older metal bands and give them a Grammy every year.
That'd be cool.
Edit:Instead of the Dixie Chicks they should have had Slayer do a three song set:
Eyes of the Insane, Chemical Warfare, and close it out with Dittohead. Some people's heads with have exploded. And when the would have Tom the mic I'm sure he would have had something interesting to say.

OddjobAbe 02-20-2007 11:24 PM

I've always liked Mike Post's TV themes. I'm sad, I know. The best 3 that Mike Post did was the Quantum Leap theme, the Magnum PI theme and the Starsky and Hutch theme.

I like them. But you know that already.

Fez 02-21-2007 10:31 AM

I have The Wall, Dark Side and Wish You Were Here. Fantastic band.

I have the movie of The Wall on DVD also. Its one odd film!

Hobo 02-22-2007 12:30 PM

I need The Wall and Animals. Badly.

I heard RATMs self titled properly for the first time today. Am impressed. It's funky as hell!

I like some TV theme's too, but some get really annoying after a while... *Spongebob Squarepants*

**** ya. Personally I don't like Animals too much. But I love the Wall, Wish You were Here, and Dark Side of the Moon. I have the movie too, and I like it a lot, even though it is a little bit too depressing.

oooh and hobo, I like RATM too

OANST 02-24-2007 06:50 PM

I've been listening to Silversun Pickups and the new Modest Mouse album (which I got a leak of). I'm not prepared to offer a real opinion on either, yet.

Leto 02-24-2007 09:29 PM

I think the new Modest Mouse is... ok. Please dont hit me, it might just have to sink in or dazzle me with gold stickers on it's cover.

And RATM are goodishkay.

Anyone heard of Volvox? Bought their Pluto, Eggplant and You or whatever on an impluse buy because it was $5. I got ripped off. The actual cover, made in felttip, I kid you not. Music by handicaps, for handicaps. My god it's hilariously shit.

ziggy 02-24-2007 10:06 PM

wow, I just looked up Volvox and they really do suck. It's just a bunch of boring random shit.

But some artists I've been liking right now are Red Hot Chlili Peppers (the new album is soooo good,) The Darkness, and Beck

Fez 02-25-2007 06:12 AM

Beck is fantastic. One of my favourite artists ever.

The Information is such a briliantly varied album. Hes a God.

Mojo 02-25-2007 06:40 AM

What do you think about Billy Talent and 30 Seconds To Mars?

Fez 02-25-2007 10:11 AM

Both not my sorta thing. I heard 30 Seconds to Mars the other day. They have a good unique sound and have found a good niche in the market, just not my cup o tea.

Mojo 02-25-2007 11:06 AM

Well, their two albums are nothing alike. The self-titled album is really "not from this world", and has a spacey feel about it, while "A Beautiful Lie" is more, ummm, darker, and depressing. Emo-shtuffs. Though I can't define Emo :P.

Never fear. I was horrified when I started listening to the new Modest Mouse album. I wanted to throw it out the window I was so pissed. It's starting to grow on me now, though. About half the songs are great and the other half are mediocre.
